Miko are shrine priestesses of Shintoism, but have been known to take up arms in defense of their shrines. They would learn all the traditional practices and customs for their shrines and at the end of her training, she would undergo a ceremony in which she sheds her old life and takes up her new one as the shrine priestess, where many aged priests would begin to chant and she would become possessed by a kami. She would be asked which kami had possessed her and after answering, would have a rice cake thrown at her face and she would pass out. While unconscious, the elders would take the passed out shrine priestess to a warm bed and keep her warm and after sshe woke up, a form of wedding ceremony would commence and the miko would wear a beautiful wedding dress. In ancient times, the kami would have been a shinto priest and the miko would have sex with the priest who represented the kami and she would have (the kami's) baby. This is no longer practiced and hasn't for a long time (except by Sanae and the Kochiyas because they're backwards and sluts).
