I've been avoiding Aokana because it feels like the kind of game I won't respect very much. I lose interest in a game the second I stop respecting the author and his ideas, and start feeling like the game exists just to sell merchandise of the heroines. Aokana gives me bad vibes from what I've seen of it. And it doesn't help that the company went under and the sequel/bonus stuff got cancel.

Didn't realize were on page 10, gonna repost this.

I just finished Humanity. What a good ge that was. >>16733721 's review of it is extremely spot on. I just really wish the writer toned down the comedy because dang was I exhausted by the end of it. At the very least, the comedy was funny enough that I never got bored per se.

If anyone's around who also finished (all five of us in the world), I want to talk about the ending: The ending seems to imply that the entire game was a cold sleep induced dream for some random guy. But the credit sequence shows that Chii-chan was the one keeping the school clean, so it can't all have been a dream. I really don't want to think the writer wrote this whole story with the ending "and all of this happened inside some kid's head" in mind. So was it something real that the kid just happened to dream about? Or what? I gotta admit, I was like "holy shit no way" when the "Wake Up" option appeared, but the ending was so vague about the truth I'm not sure how to feel. Either the ending was the greatest jape of all time or it was a weird cliche that landed poorly.

Watanabe came up with the core ideas and concept, FC is 100% his original invention. Kio Nachi's job is more to flesh out the raw ideas and turn it into a structured story, you can see this clearly if you've read Watanabe's other games which Kio Nachi worked as director on.

>> No.19496802

>>19496707
Oh fuuuck, I think I figured it out while thinking about it hours later.

The boy is a metaphor for you, the reader. The game has ended and thus it's time to "wake up" - the cold sleep was a metaphor for people like us turning to media as an escape from the real world. Throughout the novel it's emphasized how important it is to spend time with other people and actually live a life, hence the final scene being a bunch of friends playing kick the can, while the rest of humanity is stuck up inside giant pyramids dreaming about their paradise. The game ending like it does, with a boy "waking up" from cold sleep, is like the author saying it's time for us to wake up. Even if we go to that island where the game took place, we won't find Ren or Natsuki or any of the game characters there, even though we "dreamed" of spending time with them. But there will be people out there. And we can become friends with them. We just have to wake up and go outside.

Realizing this has instantly elevated the game from "pretty good" to "godly". That was the most perfect ending possible. I think the writer maybe should have made it more clear because I think the anon who reviewed the game didn't get it either, but now that I figured it out (I think), I'm actually extremely impressed. It's really beautiful.

I haven't played it, so I have absolutely zero critiques for Kio Nachi or Aokana. I just don't like the vibes I've gotten from what I've seen. Over time I've become actively hostile towards eroge built around writing heroines that exist solely to make otaku losers happy and to sell merchandise/game copies. In other terms, I suppose I look for sincerity in characters/writing/etc, and if it becomes clear a heroine is primarily written to satisfy otaku fantasies, I lose that sense of sincerity and I stop caring whatsoever about the character. Everything I've seen from Aokana has given me those "this character was written to be a sex doll for otaku" vibes. Of course, I'm not actually saying that's the case, since I haven't read it. I'm just not currently interested in reading it, because it seems to me there's a good chance that will be the case. It doesn't help that Sprite was aggressively marketing merchandise for the heroines in such a way that made me sincerely question whether they had been devised with selling said merchandise in mind.

Basically, I'm autistic and prejudicial. I've read over 200 eroge and over that time I've come to really not like some things which I go overboard to avoid. I don't think I need to tell anyone here about just how many eroge have two-dimensional heroines scrubbed of any real depth or personality to satisfy otaku. In my quest to avoid encountering games like that I avoid a lot of big-name things, and Aokana is one of those things. Though I respect Watanabe enough to maybe give it a shot one day. The visuals are certainly appealing.

Fortunately for you, Watanabe actually wrote down specifically how he went about designing and writing Misaki as a character.

Maybe, but if you have those issues, one look at the recent history of the dev of that game will make you puke. It's definitely one of the worst offenders of the MILK.

But well, I never got far into it, as it really wasn't good and uses a bunch of protag tropes that I really don't like. You know, the whole "painful past" and "trauma", but the moment your typical gullible pink haired girl appears, everything will be fine fast enough.
It's actually one of the bigger otaku catering tropes out there, as this is usually done so loners and guys who tend to refuse any invitations and so on can identify a little, until it's thrown out of the window in favor of your typical moe heroines. But I honestly don't think you can play any moege, if you really absolutely hate the whole "designed for otaku" aspect.

Don't listen to those guys, they're completely wrong. The other characters in AoKana are just as complex and well-written as Misaki, I just picked her because she specifically got her own novel about her with that passage in it. And not just the heroines, AoKana has a vast lineup of extremely likable and interesting side characters, both male and female.
Honestly, AoKana as a story works similarly to how Watanabe described Misaki, the story is written so naturally it really feels like things are occurring because of the lifelike and complex characters just doing what they would normally do in this situation, and yet because of the deep and unique setting it creates such an interesting and enjoyable narrative. Despite its outwards appearance with all the cute girls on the box cover it's such a fresh experience, and really doesn't deserve to be compared to the kind of games people would normally classify as "moege".

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Subahibi. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of philosophy most of the jokes will go over a typical viewers head. There's also Tomosane's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Wittgenstein literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Subahibi truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Tomosane's existential catchphrase "fucking faggots," which itself is a cryptic reference to Tractatus Logico Philosophicus. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as SCA-DI's genius wit unfolds itself on their PC monitors. What fools.. how I pity them.
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Kimika tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

There's nothing wrong with sex, but I think a lot of romance is corrupted into a sort of porn in eroge, and I would like to read more routes born purely from the writer's desire to tell a good romantic story as opposed to routes with porn stuffed in them.
I think Marmalade is the worst offender in this regard. They go with no sex at all in the common route and the start of the heroine routes, full of lots of cute moe sillyness, and then suddenly it's SEX SEX SEX and you never get a fucking breather in-between, and all the characterization is butchered because everything bit of the heroine's character is sucked away so she can become your cocksleeve and nothing else.

The guy doesn't even exist, and the protag is actually the girl who does the fake confession. She felt like shit because the other girls didn't really like her, so she made this cool story up to impress them, but in the end ended up imagining all the scenes where she is raped as a form of self-hatred, while the scenes with the other girls is her way of dealing with the hatred she feels towards the other girls for not being as cool as them.

Preach it brother. Ushio had some great H scenes but I wish she had more variety in her poses; imo she had too many weird pov scenes. I really, really wanted to see Ushio in the mating press/tominagi position like Sasa and Raiha get.

This October it looks like Ushio's va is doing another loli role in Deatte 5-fun. I hope she does more eroge in time, I just can't get enough of her.

I don't think it is that major. Both studios that made Tsuushinbo and Tenkiame are subsidiaries of Interheart, so recycling some stock background CGs isn't unheard of.

The only thing I see similar between the two titles is that they both take place in a rural setting.

>I think Marmalade is the worst offender in this regard. They go with no sex at all in the common route and the start of the heroine routes, full of lots of cute moe sillyness, and then suddenly it's SEX SEX SEX
As much as I liked Mashimaro I have to agree with you here. Eventually you reach a point where you have an H scene and when it ends there's a small filler scene in between the lead up to the next one.

Personally though I didn't mind it very much because like that other anon said, the H scenes were extremely hot. Even if said H scenes were dragged out quite a bit.

My biggest gripe with H scenes in general is with the lighting they use, it looks as if there's a fluorescent/LED spotlight shining on the characters. I know they do this for visual clarity and what not, but I really like how some studios use lightning in creative ways to enhance the mood. Specifically, Niko and More use another style of lighting that makes it actually look like it is taking place indoors with incandescent bulbs. I'm not sure how to describe it, but I remember Golden Hour's H scenes looked really good. It's not used in every scene - daylight H scenes still have that LED light look - but the nighttime scenes are perfect imo. See pic for example.
