It's been a while. ZUN here.

Man, it's really hot. We all need to be seriously careful about heat stroke.

In this kind of summer, I've confined myself to cooping up inside and playing games, so I've made a little game to sell at Summer Comiket.

Touhou Project 16.5

Secret Sealing Nightmare Diary ~ Violet Detector.

It's a game where Sumireko Usami, the high school girl that can only come to Gensokyo in her dreams, experiences some particularly strange dreams.

The aim of the game is to take pictures of psychic powers and danmaku to post onto social networks for glory, with systems that should feel very reminiscent of Shoot the Bullet, and yet somehow there's a kind of an ominous story in there, so while you can play without a care it's turning into something you can really sink your teeth into.

It's planned to be sold at Summer Comiket on August 10 (Friday) at booth 東シー15a Shanghai Alice Gengakudan.

Now let's see about the fate of Sumireko Usami.

ZUN already told us in Symposium of Post-Phantasmagoria. Sumireko is the lovechild of Renko and Maribel, but Maribel was about to die in childbirth so Renko had to turn her into a youkai to save her life, but Maribel couldn't control her powers at first so the baby got sent back into the past where she was raised by a gang of lolicons.

You don't read much, don't you? Not everything has to be "Most outsiders get wrecked".

>Most outsiders that get caught by youkai either get eaten at once, or get eaten once the youkai lose interest in them.
>If an outsider is fortunate and manages to find the human village, they can be returned safely to the outside world if they go to the Hakurei Shrine.

The fact that an outsider is considered fortunate if he gets to the human village is practically saying it, considering you were basically transported in the land of fucking nowhere where you know nothing about the place, and the population is 95% man-eating monsters.

Most places in Gensokyo have the threat rating of medium or higher. And the bamboo forest, which is "only" medium, is pretty heavily populated by Youkai. So, you can assume that "medium" would imply a decent chance of encountering Youkai.

Power fantasies are a form of wish fulfilment. Usually more about having more power than the people around you. Rather than presenting a setting that you want to go, or a situation you want to be in. James bond is a classic example of such a power fantasy.

No. There is evidence that as an outsider you'd be in mortal danger. But being in mortal danger does not imply tht your chance of dying is over 50%, or even remotely close to that. In combat in Syria or Iraq, your chances of dying are significantly less than that (unless you are a suicide bomber, lol) but everyone will still rightly say that being in combat is incredibly dangerous. Because it is, compared to ordinary life.

Again. I don't think that necessarily has to contradict with the earlier lore. Just because it's, somewhat mistakenly, perceived as dangerously does not mean it's impossible.

I do, btw, actually think that Akyuu was deliberately exaggerating when she wrote that bit. Especially considering Human Villagers aren't actually at risk of being hunted by Youkai anymore. But i do still think it can't be completely dismissed out of hand. Especially when it comes to how dangerous Gensokyo would be for a outsider. Who are hunted.

>Define heavily populated.

Exaggerate the danger how? Nobody is saying literally every outsider that ends up in Gensokyo is killed. What people are saying is that if a Youkai finds them, there is a better than average chance that they'll be eaten. That there are a lot more Youkai than humans in Gensokyo. And that because of those two factors, most outsiders that end up in Gensokyo are at serious risk of becoming Youkai food.

The worst thing anybody said is that it's a death sentence. And, yeah, I do think Yukari generally doesn't expect the people she spirits away to come back alive.

Not sure how she would deal with outsiders while running her stand. I like to think she would actually let them go if they can pay for the food. But if you don't happen to have any cash with you. You are probably screwed.
