Quof has said that LxC2 is alive again and a partial is coming as soon as they fix a small technical issue now the large issue is fixed. On the downside he has found he needs to edit 1.5k images so I imagine that is going to take some work for the final patch.

Flowers 3 translation has started: https://retrospring.net/Meru/a/38530

Also the Luckydog1 translator confirmed that Mangagamer is using her work. Though that was obvious already since people found mistakes in the opening song subtitles which match what she has on her blog: https://terracannon876.wordpress.com/2018/07/08/lucky-dog-1-announcement/

The other issue I saw was in the gesture settings menu. The little checkbox used to enable and disable the left and right click gestures doesn't show anything when you click on it (I expect some mark was meant to appear). It is still functional as if you click on it and exit out it will ask to discard changes and it will disable the gestures if you click apply after clicking it.
I will say it still gives a better first impression that Sekai's release. The external config tool is translated and the flashing text at the top of the auto demo is translated.

Doesn't it have the whole rejection mechanic thing? That automatically takes it out of generic for a moege and is why people were interested in it after seeing one of the rejection scenes that got translated.

Missing honorifics are not rare at all. Like japanese audio in 2 consecutive sentences has one character saying A-san, but the -san is written in only one of them. But that’s the same in almost every vn so I am used to it. I don’t know what it is about honorifics that’s hard to do.

>> No.19445480

>>19445370
I understand the logic of dropping the generic -san/-chan when translating.
I also always enjoys when it gets to the typical gag where someone drops or changes the honorifics on purpose. You can see the translator in panic mode through the translation, usually making up some lame joke or nickname as substitution. It completely destroys the scene and the translation, and should give a hint about the use or not of honorifics when translating from Japanese.

>> No.19445525

That’s not what I mean, that’s why I gave an example. Like I’m in the beginning of chapter 4 right now. Saki addresses Keiko as Hirasaka-san in jp 100% of the time, but the translation only uses Hirasaka-san 90% of the time. Twice in a single conversation, the honorific was dropped for no apparent reason. This leads me to believe it’s just a case of not paying attention to detail, rather than a deliberate genocide of honorifics.

Random question pertaining to a translation I'm working on. There's a character named 美つち, and I'm trying to figure out what I should go with for the romanization:
>Bi Tsuchi
>Bitsuchi
>Bizuchi
>????

Thoughts? If it helps, it's a snake-girl character, and other characters have names that play on their race (for example, a racoon girl named Tanukiko).

Their interpretation of Pickett v Prince is asinine. The alleged infringement in that case went:

>Prince made Prince symbol

Like most of copyright law, it's not well tested, although a ruling like that would be pretty disastrous to the very concept of art. While courts have been pretty ridiculous for the last half century on the rights of copyright holders, they have introduced a fifth exception to copyright (works of a transformative nature) and upheld it (Cariou v Prince - photoshopping photos sufficiently to express a new/different concept is a 100% new piece of art).

That's what some Japanese dude did with their RPG maker garbage and tweeted about owning the fan translator.

They're both violating copyright, but laziness and unwillingness to act on it aren't going to help.

Sekai/MG/Jast would also run into legal problems because they've in the past past explicitly encouraged fan translations and civil courts (there's no way this would rise to criminal) tend to be pretty punitive towards entrapment-like behavior.

The more important part (and the part that they're misunderstanding) is that Pickett's argument is that putting the symbol on a guitar was a derivative work, ergo it was protected. The court found that putting a symbol on a guitar involved no original content and so, okay, maybe it was derivative since it was a different thing, but it wasn't copyrightable. A more accurate comparison would be printing out a game's script on paper and trying to claim that's copyrightable as a derivative work.. and then suing the company for printing the script too.

My favorite part of copyright law is that until the late 1800s, translations were allowable as fuck under copyright and the case that decided that and used as precedent was because an author was planning on publishing their own German translation of their book, but it was so much shittier than the one a random German company did unauthorized that it would be found to be against the greater good of society for the copyright holder to be able to block it and only their own shitty version to be allowed.

It's a massive shame it was overturned and the courts became so draconian in their protection of the original creator.

The Denpasoft storefront got rather significant redesign. Although, one of the things it seems to have done is re-implemented the long term best selling sort.

At a glance, it supports that the "leaked" numbers last month was some other metric then sales. The most obvious difference is the "leak" last month had The Bell Chimes for Gold ranked first overall, while the best selling sort has it ranked as 57th of 63, and the latter seems much more in line with expectations of how it would sell considering its poor Steam showing. Most of Denpa's other recent releases also showed relatively strong numbers on the "leak", while they are generally rather far down on the list with the best selling sort. Seven Days with the Ghost is ranked 37th, Girls in Glasses 43rd, Re;Lord 48th, Re;Lord R18 patch 58th, 2236 AD 59th, and I Walk With Zombies 60th. Unsurprisingly Grisaia and Nekopara R18 patches still make up the top of the list.

That version of Fortissimo being uninvolved with Circus aside, Circus games have traditionally done okay. In the past, they've probably sold more than the Overdrive games, but chances are, they didn't help to much in keeping Mangagamer afloat like the cheap nukige they sold. I would say that the Circus stuff probably sold substantially more than even at best, at least assumimg the various DC fan disks weren't all complete passion projects. Moege in general only became great sellers once Steam came along; this is also true of Da Capo 3. DC3 only sold about 1k copies in Steam, but that still essentially doubled the total amount of sales. I doubt that's enough to convince MG to do the Plus Communication versions of DC1 and DC2 though.

Still learning C++ you mong. I believe I said that it would take years before I was good enough to even attempt doing a repacker.
Anyways, post it if you still have it. I want to learn from it.
Also I can try to contact the yuuri guy and see if he's willing to port his re-edit from the shitty external tool to the base engine.

ccpack.7z my.mixtape.moe/mufvgp.7z

I've written too many packers to keep them all straight, but I remember there being keys derived from md5ing a string in the .exe so it might not work on a different game. It only does the version of .cpz that it came packed with too.

Diabolik Lovers is a never ever too. Previous Otomate titles have only been localized either by Idea Company International or Aksys Games. MangaGamer isn't getting the rights to it anytime soon, and I have doubts it'll ever see a PC release.

I'm not sure if there's anything wrong with the translation of Togainu no Chi, but every time I loaded a save the game would freeze up. I don't know if that problem was introduced in translation or whether it was in the original, though.

Lamento has a fairly good translation, from what I've seen. There's probably room for improvement, but it's certainly better than the disaster that Sweet Pool was.
