It's pretty different from Plus/Custom (closer to the original Elona?), so some quality of life improvements that you've been taking for granted might be gone. Definitely worth trying out though, especially if you're fed up with Ano shenanigans or think pets are too powerful.

I'd rec worshipping Kuriromi or Ekehalt first. The undying herbs and 10 PP per month they offer are just really nice and the ealier you get them the better
Farm. Keep the rods of tele and summon monsters you get from this for quests that ask for those tems. Keep any scrolls of oracle you find for trading with adventurers, get good shit. Once you feel decently strong, do hunting quests. Alternatively, if you started with sleeping touch, do hunting from the moment the game starts.
Buy a farm. Keep going. Buy a shop. Go to Derthy, buy a Public Performer or anything else listed as having negotiation on the slave master wiki page. Put it in the shop. Set shop to food, put food in the shop. You will quickly ball out of control in regards to money.
Buy a maid, buy better housing, buy magic shopkeepers and rename them to buy more then whichever it was that sells fire rod (I forget and can't check since I renamed all mine).
Find or buy a pot of alchemy. Buy pots of potential. Make water. Make herb ins. Bless the pots of potential, eat the herb ins. Buy cure corruption for trading; more value per unit than oracle.
Do pretty much whatever at this point. I usually finish this around level 40.

>> No.19397481

>>19397440
Oh forgot: keep junk stones and other crystal or rock items. Put them in a big pile. 2 gods use these as gifts; you can just instantly max them if you stock enough.
I'd also rec Korimomi before Ekehalt because you haven't much to do with food until you get a shop and once he makes you rich you can go to Noyel and just buy enough jewelery to max her in like 5 trips.
The only hard to raise god is the wind one as there is no dedicated bow vendor.

Also, I'd suggest sticking with Jure at least until you get the Defender pet. Healing Rain and Lay Hand from that will keep you safe while you learn the ropes.

Will there be any any consequences for attacking and killing NPCs in Party Time! quests? I had to kill a bunch of town children and a unique NPC so I could steal a barbecue set. The unique NPC doesn't seem to be hostile outside of the quest and I didn't lose much karma but is there something I might not notice yet?

>> No.19398001

>>19397932
No. All NPCs in party time quests are mere copies. Killing them doesn't affect anything. Gwen might be an exception, but she shouldn't spawn in there in the first place.
Feel free to abuse them for otherwise hard-to-get artifacts, figs and cards. Since you often get at least one NPC carrying an artifact, it's also great for stardust farming.

Haven't played Elona in a while and read over the last thread a bit.
Does Elona+ have piss mechanics now or something?
How different is Omake compared to Elona+?

>> No.19401375

>>19401248
+ does but not in the english transation yet. The issue is apparently pee'ing when being hit being non-optional. As if it was optional, it'd just be another silly thing you can ignore. And also the thirst mechanic just being a dumb thing to add to such an old game that never needed it.

Omake's focus is on RP and customization; you can relatively easily make new gods, classes and races to play with. There are feats which make you super good with specific weps or or magic and feats which make you worse in some way for extra feat points, letting you tailor your character much more. It also has some pretty neat crafting.
The downside is that its simply much slower and much more tedious than +. PP costs at 15 from the start, the free feat you get on char gen in + doesn't exist (although you can just make a race/class with whatever feat you want), Yacatect's free PP and museums free PP don't exist and you only got 10% potential per investment. It lowers slower, but if your goal is to just keep at 100%, its much easier to do so in +. You also can't cure curse via NPC, everything costs more and a bunch of other things I forget.

Overall despite all the whining, + still feels like the far more fun and better designed game to play because of all of its quality of life additions, has more feats/special attacks to play with (although the balance is super questionable, the same can be said for the +100% at max level damage feats in OO), stronger pets (in OO they're not really worth the effort they take) and more acts.
+'s good additions are strong enough that even with the recent bad ones its still just more fun to actually sit down and play unless you really like the slow pace of OO.
Its a shame since OO's devour special action once you get the mutation to make it actually useful, crafting and varied Nefia's are pretty cool.

THIS. I love special Nefia and what they do for the feel of dungeon-diving, even down to just moving around the map looking for a dungeon to go into, but OO is just woefully slow at the start and without any extra acts after Lesimas I feel once the glacial early-game is finally overcome there wouldn't be much more of the game left to make that grind feel worthwhile.

At what skill level does gardening with cooking start to make noticeable money? With as many equipment bonuses as I can have, Gardening is at 103 and Cooking is at 73 but selling cooked and ID'd food in my food shop still only makes 2k~7k/day. The Loss Mode guide says to prioritize gem seeds and that they'll make tens of thousands of gold per crop, but I can't sell gems for anywhere near that much.

>> No.19401871

>>19401248
Omake Overhaul feels much more like vanilla Elona than Plus, but the changes are fairly unambiguous improvements compared with the two steps forward, one step back changes you see in Plus. Plus mostly emphasizes combat and fast character growth, while OO emphasizes sandbox elements and NPC interactions.

Your character's growth is much slower in Vanilla/OO, it's much harder to keep your potentials up (though potential also drops by less as well). There's no AP either, so your speed won't see the explosive growth you get in Plus. It's also much harder to equip your character with quality equipment since there are much fewer precious items and it doesn't have Plus's increased rare drop rates. Skills take much longer to learn, with your first skill costing 15 platinum and the cost increases by 3 each time. The cost of training potential is higher as well. Lastly, gold is much harder to come by in Vanilla/OO than in Plus.

You don't need to be as powerful in the first place, since there's only one act and enemies go up to around level 50 instead of 200, but the slower pace can feel a bit tedous, especially in the beginning. I like that Vanilla/OO encourage you to specialize your character rather than becoming good at everything, though I don't think the huge platinum costs are a good way to go about it.

Omake Overhaul makes big improvements to NPC adventurers and random nefia dungeons. Adventurers can now be encountered inside of dungeons, which can be fun and helpful and enables all kinds of shenanigans where you try to get high level adventurers killed for their loot. NPCs tend to carry much higher quality equipment, but because you don't become stronger than every guard and adventurer in the game after 10 hours, you can't always just take it from them. They form parties and travel together and are overall a much bigger part of the game. There's also a rival adventurer character who will eventually show up, and every time you defeat her, her opinion of you improves and she levels up.

The random nefia dungeons are much better too. Most of them have fun gimmicks now. There are thief dungeons full of traps and treasure chests, where all hostile NPCs are some sort of thief. There are "lonely" dungeons where pets can't enter, no-magic or magic-only dungeons, dark dungeons, and all kinds of stuff. NPCs are now all divided into different factions and will fight against each other. There are also more special encounters on the world map, and existing encounters like the rogue bandits tend to be more dangerous and rewarding.

Towns don't see as many improvements as dungeons, but there are still some new events like the three different guilds will sometimes invade each other, or you'll run into a friendly catsister in town who wants to play tag or hide and seek. Supposedly you can build your own town and recruit NPCs to live there, but I have not tried that yet.

Personally I think OO is overall better than plus. Your growth is slower, but I think it feels more meaningful and rewarding when becoming super powerful isn't a foregone conclusion. You need to actually respect guards and other adventurers, which is for the best. Gold is much more meaningful. I have more fun with the dungeons because of their various gimmicks and the presence of adventurers. Plus might be better if all you care about is the combat, but Elona's combat has never been any good.

My favorite encounter so far was when I entered a nefia dungeon called a zealot's dungeon. All of the NPCs were town NPCs, and they were all named (god) fanatic. Fanatics of opposing gods would kill each other, so like Jure fanatics would fight Lulwy fanatics to the death. My pets worshiped different gods than I did, but they didn't turn on me, though they would kill NPCs who worshiped different gods. The whole dungeon was a giant bloodbath of shopkeepers and arena masters slaughtering each other. I came across a younger sister NPC who was friendly but my little girl pet ran up and oneshotted her, and it turns out she was a "Nee fanatic." RIP imouto-chan. Anyway, the boss was a defender and I finished him off with the devour special action and when I did I got some red text saying "It's... eating the angel?!" and my little girl pet (who worshiped Jure) vomited at the sight of it.

You do lose some good things switching from Plus to OO. You don't get Plus's nice improvements to the game's visuals, you lose out on some quality of life features (if there's a way to set items as no-drop in OO, I haven't found it), and there is only one act. But I don't think any of that is as important as OO's improvements to Elona's NPCs, dungeons, and sandbox elements.

>> No.19401937

Assuming I already maxed out my pets' speed, which AP skill should I prioritize? I know melee attackers need the Shadow Step package, the Spellcasters need Crystal Spear and the Supports need Tactical Heal and Curse, but what should I give to long-range gunners when Zero Shoot isn't an option?

There are only four materials that really matter in the long run: griffon scale, dawn cloth, adamantium, and ether.
-Griffon scale is all-around good. It's lightweight and has high stats for everything. Ideal for fairies or people who want a balance between DV and PV.
-Dawn cloth is the lightest (not counting paper) and has higher DV than griffon scale, although it has basically no PV. It's the best material for some items (e.g. wings).
-Adamantium is heavy and has very high PV. If your metric is the sum total of DV and PV, it gives so much PV that it's the best option. It's also the strongest (non-radioactive) material for weapons.
-Ether weapons do more damage than adamantium weapons, but personally I'd only give them to pets.

In summary the main things that can happen to gear:

Acid damages gear lowering its enchant and possible destroying it if it gets low enough. Solution: use acid proof liquid or materials to prevent.

Cursing words: your gear is now cursed. Solution: exorcist feat, protects against cursing words, uncurse scrolls/rods/spell.

Fire damage burns gear. Solution use any of: fireproof liquid or materials, fireproof blankets, or really high resistance to fire. I recommend all of 'em.

Ice damage shatters gear/potions. Solution: ice proof blankets, really high ice resistance. I recommend using both.

Brainwash: unequips your gear but keeps it in your inventory. Solution: Yell at the computer. In theory will resists brainwash, in practice its a straight roll between attackers charisma and your will, so you're probably getting brainwashed if you're even remotely close to their stats.

Death: randomly drops items. Solution: return and pick them up.

I believe that covers everything you'll need to know.

In your image, I'd consider the rubynus wing the most desirable of the three (assuming you don't have E+'s barrier feat - if you do then dawn cloth is the clear winner). The rubynus claw is also a strong contender against the adamantium claw, and it's also solid on weapons that have better accuracy than claymores. Rubynus and dragon scale are also good choices for weapons when you need to keep their weight low.

I'm not saying that rubynus is better than the materials you suggested, just that it can compete with them.

The ascetic series is always a winner. Everyone wants more hp. Dimensional move is nice, but most of its value is in the early game. At your level you shouldn't have trouble casting or acquiring stacks of minor teleport scrolls. Get hypnotist asap if you're not using spells for damage - it never misses and inflicts sleep very reliably on anything not immune. That will help immensely against evasive enemies and will turn large groups of enemies into a series of one on one battles. Violent garden is pretty overpowered in E+. The distance runner series is good if you use performing or special actions frequently. The mana series is just as good as the ascetic series if you've got the barrier AP feat, though it looks like you're too early for that.

Feats to avoid include the attribute-raising feats (luck, strength, constitution, and charisma) and anything that increases a skill.

The speed feats are fine in vanilla, but in E+ don't bother with them until you have over 800 speed.

I thought I had contracted some new disease from The Void and the insanity that spawns in its infinite depths. Seeing that I was fine afterwards, I celebrated with three bottles of Blessed Brim Ale, freshly fused. Is it just me or I find the "Strings Assassin" feat to be extremely overpowered? At least for a melee character.
It scales with Tactics and deals absurd amount of damage in the early game (it lets you oneshot most enemies out there) and it is likely to be better than any of your shitty early weapons. >> No.19409081

Let's put it this way. If you know enough Japanese to read through Elona, you should already be near intermediate as far as reading goes. It won't help you much as far as learning everyday Japanese goes because you probably won't even recognize any 常用字 when they show up.

If you're trying to study "basic" Japanese you're better off actually studying from a textbook than Elona. It might not be as fun, but it won't throw you off nearly as much. Learning Japanese to play video games is a fair bit different from the standard path.

>> No.19409144

>>19409048
>>19409081
On the other hand, if you know absolutely no Japanese and you're attempting to tackle Elona solely based on what you remember of the story + controls and whatnot, you're probably going to run into roadblocks because translations aren't one to one. If you want a point of reference, Baguette's youtube series on Elona can serve as that (He does Japanese games besides Elona too, but basically his Japanese is "intermediate" level).

If you're not at the point where you can recognize basic phrases and general dialogue, you're going to have to do a substantial amount of translation and you'll probably be referring to a dictionary more often than not. If you're at the point where you can distinguish between katakana and hiragana and that's it, then you should take note that the Japanese version of Elona likes to throw in "mix ups" from time to time.

To gauge yourself, you should take a read through this and see how much you understand: http://elonagather.wiki.fc2.com/wiki/%E7%A8%AE%E6%97%8F
Reading through that and being able to understand it is basically low beginner to early intermediate Japanese. Sentence structure in there is fairly simple, and there aren't too many "uncommon" kanji being used. Playing through Japanese Elona is *slightly* easier than this since as long as you know katakana/hiragana and even more basic kanji you can "get by" by ignoring most of the plot and dialogue, but yeah, this gives you a reference point if Baguette isn't a good one.

It's "balanced" due to stamina limitations, poor scaling compared to typical "OP" stuff like living weapons full of magic damage, and poor skill training that will fuck you over eventually (only tactics, while a normal attack will use and train up to three skills with no stamina costs). But yeah, in early levels most of these special actions (violent garden is another example) will clean dungeons for you with little to no effort involved (other than occasional resting because of stamina).

Evasion is okay early. In fact, in vanilla evasion was great, since a lot of the chaos bosses could be beaten with evade before they could with PV. However, evasion has a few problems:
a) it's random. this is a problem with any game
b) you NEED to stack it. you need points in the skill, DV on gear, etc.
c) classes good at evasion naturally like fairy will die if you ever get crit once or twice without major work.
d) crits bypass evasion. on vanilla and OO this isnt too big of a deal, but on E+ where later enemies can have huge eye of mind, you're gonna start getting hit more and more, and not for chip either. Greater Evasion can dodge rits, but its an annoying skill to train, and now your training two defence skills more than PV has to

Nope, solo play is fine. Pets are advantageous though, immensely so if you're playing Elona Plus.

>>19409603
>Also, is relying purely on evasion a good strategy?
No. DV is nice but PV is essential. A balanced approach is fine as is going full PV.

It's best to build your character up a little bit before going into your first dungeon (do delivery, escort, and other non-combat quests, buy some equipment, gain a level or two from non-combat exp).

If you do want to jump right in to the puppy cave, at least prepare your character with an escape option (dimensional move feat or some teleport scrolls) and one of the offensive special action feats. The hypnotism ability inflicts a small amount of unavoidable damage and inflicts sleep on anything not immune to it. It's especially useful because it never misses. If you're playing Elona Plus, strings assassin similarly has perfect accuracy, but is focused on direct damage rather than a status ailment, and it's very powerful.

Watch out for kobolds, they do lots of damage and can inflict dim which will, among other things, cause you to take even more damage. The hungry spirits have high evasion and can't be put to sleep, so they're a potential problem as well.

If you want to get a real weapon early on, here's a good method:

First, acquire a rod of teleport somehow. Then head to Noyel. Zap Ebon with the rod of teleport to send him somewhere else. Make sure he didn't end up anywhere nearby. Then unlock his shackle. I'm not sure if you need the lockpicking skill or a lockpick, but it's easy enough to choose a class that starts with lockpicking, and Moyer sells picks. Anyway, Ebon will go to war with the town and usually he'll kill everyone. He won't go after you but you can easily die as collateral damage so stay away until the fighting noises stop. Then you can loot the items all the people in town dropped. If he killed an adventurers, you can potentially get stuff that'll carry you for quite a while.

Ebon's fire breath will start fires and destroy items. Ideally this should be done while it's raining to minimize the damage, but that's not likely to happen without the statue of Lulwy.

As for immunity, its damage is low enough that it's won't reliably oneshot some evasive, sleep-immune enemies such as hungry demons and bishops. Besides that, boss enemies tend to be immune to sleep. The effectiveness of the weapon will be "in the same range" since your overall numbers are low in either case. Early game Elona, whether Vanilla, E+, or OO or any other fork, is generally slow early on, and your pet is probably more effective than killing at you thanks to a number of factors working together.

Realistically you are better off just plugging away at it until you get to a stable base financially, and can actually get the resources to start playing around with things. In your phase of the game trying to toy around with DW and the restrictions of DW doesn't do you any favors, because you don't really have the capability to affect those restrictions in a meaningful fashion. It's about similar to getting an ALP at level 1 and trying to figure out how to use it best.

>> No.19415204

>>19415072
It's the start of the game, you don't have to be absolutely perfect unless you'll sperg out of control due to being less than optimal. Gotta go forward using your head. Don't blitz just any enemy. Learn how to gauge them. Take on what you can. Use a bow/gun/magic rod as a test. If they don't seem too extreme try close combat.

Of course this outline isn't perfect. True perfection is to 1 round anything so it can't retaliate. You have to really know the game to zero in on what can be cheesed quickly/easily for that spike in combat. I gave a suggestion to let him do what he wants "now" and learn as he goes. Maybe he'll like it, maybe not. Better than the wait for flying scrolls. Hopefully he'll learn something and shape his own destiny with that.

End of chapter 3

So it's been a long journey for this snail, longer than it should have been. I took a few months off from elona to play other games. When I left off I had grabbed the 5 performaids for ensemble. I just wanted to collect the set, I only use them for party time and arena fights. I've achieved my goals for this chapter: I have a full set of limbs, final gear, and 100 life. After getting all my limbs I only had 2 life stat, so 33 hero cheese. I've not given up on the five horned-helm, but I'll not lose sleep trying to get it either. I only have a few minor resists left, then I'll fill the rest up with piercing attack and magic resist as I can. I don't think I can get bleeding resistance.

I just finished clearing the cradle of chaos' last floor. I had actually gone up there several months ago and slapped Enthumesis a few times. I did decent enough damage, but was taking way to much damage in return. When I went back this time, she disintegrated. Then the choas child spawned in, and, just for curiosities sake, I melee'd him. He never hit for more than 50,000. It would have taken a long time to whittle his health down, but I think I could do it. Unfortunately, he's immortal and doesn't give xp, so I just switched to kiting him and using ranged attacks.

Deaths: 1

Fron the tour guide. I got revenge.

My thoughts on things I used:

MP Barrier: I used this when I had no HP. It's decent enough, if you just want a second HP bar. It does have flaws that make me not want to use it again. You get a better mp -> hp ratio with healing spells, and will frequently run out of MP. Now that MP poison is a thing, this will only be worse. Never use this and bloodrod at the same time. Bring rods/scrolls of mana.

Blood rod: Eats through MP like a motherfucker. Otherwise, works as advertised. Get vorpal for pierce. Don't use with continuous attacks, and beware of MP damaging things like eye of mana or mana poison. Bring rods/scrolls of mana.

Party Time: As for the results, ensemble is not so great. It gives tons of money and loot yes, but only the normal amount of tickets. I was getting more loot than I could sell in fact, and started to bring the shopkeeper pet into party time for the charisma xp and money. Even opened a second shop. But it just took too much time and stamina, I switched to fascination dance around 50-70 life. Dungeons/crafting are still faster for loot collection.

Future plans:

Grind casting up until I can cast wish to summon the gods to duel, or get enough rods of wishing. I'll probably do them in a batch, and keep wish spell potential to reduce level ups. I think I only need 500-700 casting, since my wish spell is LV 29. I'll also be using herbs and training machine + snow for attributes. When my shops get empty, I'll run through the void to level and fill them. Later, if I'm still playing this character, I'll try summoning the gods to party time and seeing how well that works.

I don't think I'll update past 1.77. I could handle Ark Survival: Pooping Evolved, so I can probably handle Elona: Piss edition. However, there doesn't really seem to be much to switch for near term. Long term has act 4, but.. I want to try Omake after this next goal. I'll also be looking to mod the graphics finally, maybe find that snail pcc that was made a while back.

I played vanilla back in the day, but it's been a while. Just wasn't used to that after so much time with Elona Plus. My favorite memory from the original Elona was when a nasty alien outbreak took hold of Palmia. There was an ever-growing arms race between the guards and the aliens where the guards would level up from getting killed by aliens and then new, stronger aliens would burst out from those guards. It went on for a long time and the madness only finally came to and end when I found the shield of thorn and got the aliens to kill themselves against it.

i play it for the mechanics and for the grind
that's why i'm trying to get started on Elona, nerd

the story in Kamidori is good, but it's nothing extraordinary. It's just decent enough not to feel bored when playing.

When i level up, i get to spend 5 bonus points.
I'm supposed to have 400% potential on a skill before using these points, right?

Nah fuck it you can just get more with AP. Just use them to hit about 30-40 performer (depending on if solo or with pets) and raise anything else annoying to get to consistent levels/to raise in general. Cooking is good because it raises super slow via just cooking stuff. For some reason raising skills with bonus points always seems to try to set your potential to 100% so just aim for that/

Try to delete the God, Item and NPC folders in the User folder before extracting the User.zip's files, that is how I managed to make it work.

Is the decapitation effect noticeable? I'm going to play a dw character soon and i'm trying to figure out which kind of weapon i want to use.

Most of them have so shitty bonus enchantments that i'm lost.
Might go with long swords or claymores if i don't choose scythes.

My little girl did. Not sure but I think they were doing about 5-7k per turn and it was the third time the angel came back from 10% hp. Thankfully the gauge release sent her below 5% that time and she finished it off.

Thanks!

I might just need more MP + meditation, but each hit from blood rod uses 2000 mp scaled down as current MP goes down. Continuous attacks uses up the full 2000 per hit up to 36K for all 18 hits, but only does 1/6th the damage.

I'm gonna have to wait a bit longer before I get to Omake, I still need to summon the 8 gods/inner gods.

Shop merchant. 100+ investment. No need to over 100. On a non-newgame+ character you'd probably be best served putting bonus points into perform until it stops failing in towns and alternating party time and farming. Or wishing for a 7leagueboots and running palmia to noyel or kapul.
I'd say you get 1 flying scroll for about every 4-5 pots of potential on average. Kind of rare. But not too bad.

>>19423627
SP regen isn't really broken. It just makes SP slightly less unfun. It doesn't really make fights signficiantly easier. It speeds up cooking but since selling rotted food makes more than enough cash to do anything you want that really doesn't matter.
Really SP should be a combat only thing. All it adds outside of combat is tedium.

I was gonna give Itzpalt a try in OO since he's always been super underwhelming in + thanks to his mana regen skill using stamina and being fucking awful in general but according to the changelog for some reason you sacrifice equipment of godly quality every time you use his not even very good sounding special skills making him worse than every other god.
Also Kumiromi sounds absolutely busted in OO to the point not using him seems to just be plain playing the game wrong thanks to his food giving + to all things and his ability making food better. Especially if you get the mutation that lets you eat anything as if its raw.

>> No.19423689

>>19423627
Itzpalt is my go to early god, since I almost always play mages of some description, and the Exile is super strong early game.

Opatos is pretty much just there for the Golden Knight and Mani is just kind of eh.

Kumi is kind of weird. Like, most of the time he seems normal, if quiet, then suddenly it's all crazy stares and 'YOU'LL NEVER LEAVE ME'

You'll be relatively ok once you get over the initial curve, and generally speaking you might not even have a God for the initial curve. Because the overall ceiling of the game is lower, stat growth isn't anywhere near as important in OO as it would be in E+. This is what makes running custom Gods viable for the most part.

I was gonna go with the fox god but as the pic shows, the room she's supposed to have an altar in doesn't seem to exist. Hoping for a special god nefia near my level.

>> No.19423888

>>19423848
I *think* you could just try to add her manually using the F8 process to get an altar, but honestly I've never tried it that way.

>> No.19424134

>>19422900
Long sword is the best weapon skill in E+ because lightsabers are the best weapon type. Outside of E+ a dual wield character might be better off using short blades since weight can be a big problem and flying scrolls reduce attack power. E+ flying scrolls don't weaken your weapon, aside from the weight-based crit modifier.

Speaking of dual wielding outside of Plus, what do y'all think are good weapons to shoot for in OO? I'm thinking maybe Rankis + Lucky Dagger? Rankis's nether damage is a lot more appealing here than in E+ since OO enemies don't resist all non-magic elements, and the life steal is more useful since there's no barrier ability.
