For the last few days, I've been constantly dreaming of being with Medusa. Notable occurrences include laying down in bed with her in a perfectly not-sexual way, cooking for her in a way that resembles how Shirou cooks for Saber, solving some sort of murder mystery while she watches from afar and riding on bikes together but being unable to keep up to her rank A+ Riding skill. I remember one specific dream in which I swiped off her glasses and didn't die. I just straight into them and said something corny like "WALKING THE PATH OF HEAVEN, THE MAN WHO WILL RULE ABOVE EVERYTHING" as my explanation for not turning to stone. The real explanation is that I don't die even when I'm killed in my dreams, seeing as being hanged, getting shot multiple times in the head and getting run over by an oversized truck don't really do much to me.

Let me see...

It's a three episodes long fight scene, upon which 5 minutes are actual animated fight, and the rest is two people monologuing at each other. The pacing is absolutely atrocious. All gripping sense of grittiness is blasted to smithereens the third time Shirou reflects upon himself, goes up, and have another monologue, before going down, reflecting some more, and having another monologue that goes nowhere.

I have seen DBZ fights more interesting than UFO's Shirou vs Archer. The pacing recalls some of the worst shonen fights ever animated.

The worst is that they failed to accurately portray Shirou's inner turmoil, because they padded Shirou's internal conflict three or four times. In the VN it is a clear case of Shirou losing to Archer's cynicism at first, but then him finding power in his belief and going forward. In UFO Shirou fight at first, then he loses his ideals, then he wins them again, then Archer's cynicism got him, then he goes up, then he goes down, then he abandons what he believes is true, then he doesn't. What the hell are we supposed to take of that stuff?

For all its cheesiness and budget issue, DEEN's Archer vs Shirou fight is unironically better. Shirou's points are clearer, his inner thoughts are clearer, the fight is better paced, it's not a slog. You know you fucked up when DEEN is better than you.

It really sucks that him and Type-Moon are only super relevant thanks to FGO. Why couldn't TM have blown up to this degree for something remotely good or at least cool? I think being known for FSN, but not popular with waifufags and the gacha mobage crowd to this degree was really the best they've ever been. At least F/SN was unquestionably a Nasu work and a real timeless VN classic, not the most popular mobile gambling machine for a few years.
The fact that even if they release other VNs or actually good games in the future, most new fans from now will be people who liked a shitty gacha game and got into TM through that genuinely bugs me.

Personally I think it isn't a problem of darkness, but, rather, hue. I prefer the Melty colors the best on them, Akiha with her raven blue hair, and Shiki with his purpleish hair. Unfortunately, though, Akiha's modern (remake) colors are basically 1:1 copies of Rin's. And they sucked out all the saturation out of Shiki.

It's just a case of the Near Side arcs just being averagely decentish, instead of vaguely goodish. You could technically make the point that Near Side is worse than Far Side, but only on a very narrow sense.

I think Near Side is great in the manga especially, tons of memorable moments and Arc is perfect. Akiha and Hisui are just phenomenal. Kohaku I'd put on the same tier as Near Side, some great scenes but not amazing as a whole.

Honest thoughts on Kirei Kotomine?

Fate route, he's like a pretty shitty, forgettable priest. He's irrelevant in UBW to the point where he's unceremoniously killed off because someone else in that route can already criticize Shirou's ideals (and thus be the villain of the route. protip: it's Shirou's own ideal, aka the redman, aka communism) so much better than he can. If you look at him in HF, he's...a strangely reliable ally and helps out a decent amount? And then comes back near the end to pose as the final challenge for Shirou to overcome.

I found Kirei to be absolutely boring, and kind of overrated honestly.

He's certainly great in the way he plays the characters against themselves (Shirou and Sakura), but that's not really enough to make me think he's all that. His struggle against himself didn't really interest me, and his relationship with Gilgamesh and Lancer was so underdone it was also kind of pathetic? Feel like you could have done more with them, but Nasu loves to rely on his plot twists with no foreshadowing until the very last second, so everything had to be completely nonexistent before Lancer being Kirei's servant was revealed. That was also something that could have been done better.

Haven't touched Zero, so maybe that's where all the love comes from.

I’ll be the odd one out and say I prefer near side, or Arc’s route at least, to all of the far side routes. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the maids’ routes, but the far side routes as a whole are a real slog to read through. Nasu’s weaknesses as a writer really rear their ugly head in far side too, and to a lesser extent in Ciel’s route.

I'm pretty excited to find out more about Wandering Sea. I really hope it's not just another "they're destroyed lol" like with the Clock Tower and Atlas, or that you have to clear the entire singularity focused on shitty Servants before getting to it (which seems to be implied in this premise).
It's also quite possible that the Lostbelt IS in the island of the Wandering Sea, which makes sense since it is ancient and would've existed in 1000 BC.

So the end of Last Encore will be straight up a 2 hour special, which is actually pretty good. I expected 3 more episodes, 2 hours is almost 6 episodes. Divide them by half between Leo and Twice and you've got pretty decent screentime for each of them.

Kaleidosticks are just a mini version of that that allows using class cards and transformations as well. And they seem more versatile with what they allow you to do with that mana too (stuff like flying or Miyu building steps).

There's regular mana that exists in large quantities in nature, especially concentrated around the leylines. This is how the Greater Grail works in the first place. Then there's Od, produced within humans and other living things in smaller quantities.
