In my personal opinion, they handled her extremely poorly in FGO. I originally thought it was interesting that they were trying to upgrade someone who was essentially a side character in another character's mythology, but even I can admit they got excessive with Scathach. Not only that, but they pushed the 'I can't die, woe is me' angle WAY TOO HARD. I was taken aback at how cold and impersonal she was nearly all throughout her bond levels. They straight up just didn't know what to do with her. No interesting conversations about any of her students other than Cu. No proper waifu interactions. No insights into her personality other than 'I sometimes get TOO into being a sensei, my bad'. It's frustrating. Summer Shishou was a good step forward, but they've made NO PROGRESS since then. For someone who was insanely popular, she hasn't appeared in any interesting story bits or even funny story bits.

How big is your Nasuverse collection?

I recently started reading Type-Moon VNs: Tsukihime, Kagetsu Tohya and Fate/Stay Night so far. I liked the stories for the most part but my biggest complaint is the route endings. I know it's just opinion really but a bunch of the routes in Tsukihime and F/SN frustrated me. It's hard to explain but for example, there would be no happy ending in certain characters routes but in a different characters route there is a happy ending for that previous character except the MC isn't with them in this route so it doesn't feel satisfying to me. Besides this I also don't really care much for the protagonists of both series. I'm still going to read Fate/Hollow Ataraxia soon though cause overall I did enjoy them.

The girls are all good in their own rights, the routes are definitely hit and miss in how much of the heroine's potential they bring out. As for Shiki and Shirou... After a decade sitting on it, I think you learn to appreciate them with time. They're not special, but they're not bad either. I've always been fond of Shirou's evolution across the routes, going from being protected (Saber's sheath, the CG where she props him up hugging him I only came to appreciate years after I finished FSN) to being on equal footing (with Rin, emphasized by the CG of them sitting back to back after both seemingly lost everything), to protecting (taking the initiative and hugging Sakura). His ideals change with him; from one who upholds them from start to finish, to one who understands the limitations in reality and will work to compromise between what's possible to what he's capable of, to growing out of and throwing away those ideals entirely in face of something more precious

Shiki is more vanilla "lives life and enjoys it to the fullest no matter how short and ephemeral it is", I like Nanaya a lot too and am not too fond that he got delegated to his own thing instead of Tohno trying to reconcile together these separate parts of him.

Kotomine has an amazing progression throughout the routes that really makes you re-evaluate his whole character and place in the narrative by the time you reach the end of HF. Kohaku is similar but more sudden, you just get the drop that she's been subtly influencing the entire course of the VN in every single route, from as early as when Shiki woke up in denial that he had killed Arc. It's amazingly done.

Fate/stay night, like most visual novels is power fantasy nonsense, the stories mean absolutely nothing from a philosophical didactic standpoint as they are mere power fantasies for juveniles.

They are fun when you are a teenager, but beyond early adulthood you need to move past the power fantasies that occupied a powerless youth's ambitions. I liked Fate when I was a teenager, but that stuff is really just meant for teenagers and young adults, it waxes one's desire for power in the self-insertion of Emiya, or the desire to have him succeed against great odds, as are the themes of most all comicbooks and anime. In the end these stories mean nothing.

Western Fantasy does it better, though Game of Thrones is garbage whose only value is in shock. Tolkien really set the bar because his work is so layered in his philosophy that you can read his stories over and over again and find new pearls of wisdom, even C.S. Lewis understood that the stories needed to mean something timeless in the end, and the power fantasies of anime don't really mean anything, kids are occupied by them because kids have no power, but once you realize that power is a meaningless theme to center your stories around, you set out for real mediums of story-telling.

The only reason she took an interest in Shiki were because he managed to stay hidden from her and actually surprise attack her. This was insulting to whatever small sense of pride she had as a killing machine, and while she suffered putting herself back together she had plenty of time to mull it over and think about it more, leading her to take a personal interest in him and make him debt-bound to her while she recovers. On one hand I find it sorta interesting that the beginning scene where Shiki wakes up in the hospital bed was actually the "birth" of the Shiki we play as, and this is fine for me when I play the near side routes because his past isn't that important to his relationship with Arc/Ciel.

But when I play the far side, Shiki's past before the accident is so much more important because his bond with Akiha/Hisui/Kohaku began back when they were children. So the way he considers his childhood self a different person becomes incongruous with the relationships he forms with each heroine.

Or maybe I'm getting mixed up. I know in Ciel's true end and the manga it's clear that Shiki views who he was before the accident as a different person, but maybe that doesn't apply to every route.

According to VNDB, Meteo and Morisaki Ryouto were the assistant writers. They pretty much took care of a lot of the lighter tone SoL scenes.
