Ciel farting in my face!

Reminder that after finishing Kusarihime, its writer, Hoshizora Meteo, wanted to create a fanbook. In doing so, some other writers were dragged into the project. They were Urobuchi Gen, Tanaka Romeo, and Kinoko Nasu.

All three writers were inspired by Kusarihime. Taking the concept of two people whose love can only be confirmed through each other and insanity, Urobuchi went and made Saya no Uta.

Taking the concept of time loops, insanity, twisted personal relationships, and not giving the readers answers, Tanaka Romeo went and made Cross Channel.

Taking the concept of love, family bonds, and insanity, Kinoko Nasu went and made the Heaven’s Feel route in Fate/stay night.

There are many parallels between Kusarihime and Higurashi too, such as the time loops and how the seemingly traditional mythological power turns out to be related to science fiction instead. And Ryuukishi's next work, Umineko, is very clearly inspired by Meteo's Forest.

Ciel was more interesting for me because she's the only grounded character in Tsukihime, which you can implicitly trust.

Shiki goes onto the deep end, lies to everyone, keeps secrets, becomes paranoid, and kills and rapes. The maids are walking mental dysfunction. Akiha is completely useless and doesn't give any meaningful answer, until you are so deep into her route you're getting her pregnant. Arc is oblivious, whimsical, and you can't count on her.

On the other end, Ciel is a solid pillar. She's here to talk to you if you want. You can ask her questions, and she will answer them. When Shiki becomes totally unhinged she's the first one to tell him that he isn't Roa. Even when she plays around or erase memories and stuff, I trust her far more than, say, Akiha.

Of all the girls of Tsukihime she is the only one who actually knows what she is doing and is giving the slightest idea of competence.

Three cheers for Ciel being the only one who knows most of what is going on, tries to plan to deal with what is going on, and usually executes on those plans with success. Arcueid is probably the worst in terms of competence because she's spent repeated lifetimes hunting Roa and never actually put any thought into how to destroy him rather than just slowly draining herself away in conflict. In a fraction of the time Ciel gathers up an armory of conceptual weapons that Roa can't reincarnate from and brings them all to Japan.

People like to give her a lot of shit for lying but when she is lying to people it's because they''re explicit outsiders to the situation that don't benefit from knowing more. Once you're in on shit she gives the most accurate and complete information. Up to the point that she'll outright confess "If you get killed by Roa, while he's distracted I'll kill him."

What's Nasu's endgame?

I am eating...I am eating...curry. Om nom nom, fresh, straight from the cook. It's piping hot and the steam from it burns my eyes a little, the smell is strong, and the flavor intense. "Oh Ciel, please give me some more, i'm still hungry!". I don't think i've ever come across curry as rich as this before, the flavor takes over all my senses. I can't take it anymore, I want more of this spicy deliciousness. I find the place it's coming from, its a hole, and I notice Ciel is looking the other way. The hole isn't big enough for me to use the spoon, but around it is soft tissue. I pull it open and decide to just use my tongue to scoop out the curry. I notice another area near the curry hole, dripping with something, so I taste it. The flavor is that of salty milk and coins, I quickly return to the curry to remove the taste. While eating the curry, I hear a gurgling noise...suddenly a hot gust of air billows out of the hole and the curry begins flowing at an amazing pace. The smell, the taste, the heat, it all comes pouring out of the hole with such force...soon it's all over my face and the floor, I'm slathered in it, enjoying it, loving it. I begin lapping it off the floor. My hands are covered in it, i begin rubbing it into myself. A story of an young man being held in a Psychiatric Asylum for all of his life on Scandinavian Mountains, Norway.

Later it is revealed that the Asylum is a prison to isolate Magus and or normal people with Magecraft potential that will get Sealing Designation in the future. Another purpose of the Asylum is to implant a mental Rune spell in the depths of minds of the prisoners to weed out "radical ideas" and make them "subservient", thus preventing them become Designated Magus. The Asylum itself belongs to the Wandering Sea Organization, whom rather keep these prisoners to themselves than hand them over to the Clock Tower.

MC was imprisoned due to his "designation" of being a Designer Baby created by another Designated Magus to solely inherit the First Magic. The real current heir of First Magic is also being held in the deepest underground level of the Asylum. He/she is dying and unable to use his Magic at full potential. The Wandering Sea Magus is trying to find a way to keep him/her alive so they can learn the true nature of The First Magic itself.

Eventually MC end up in situation where he encounter the dying Magician and accidentally inherit the First Magic. With it, he shut every Bounded Field in the Asylum and manage to escape. His real adventure start as a Philosopher-level Designated Magus.

The story will be told in the same aesthetic and style as Legion TV series

Nasu basically decided that fights needed more tension in Tsukihime, and Tohno's whole deal was learning to appreciate life regardless of how short it was. So he built on MEoDP lore and made them more of a burden/curse for the whole VN (while in KnK it was only seen as that in part 4).

On another note, while I have nothing but contempt for those who claim that FGO is the best thing done by TM, and more importantly I have never encountered one who has ever said so outside pure (non malicious) ignorance of the rest of the franchise, I reserve my disdain for those who bash it claiming it to be irredeemable and the death of TM

When I talk about "the good of TM", it's always from a creative perspective, not fucking economically. There's no point in arguing that, everyone knows lowering your standards and appealing to a wider audience will always result in more easy cash.

It is irredeemable in that it's an unfun gacha mobage with a blank self-insert protag, rotating writers, and a focus on Servants. Regardless of how much they improve its story (which isn't even happening consistently) those core issues will remain.
Wether it's the "death of TM" can't be said for sure, we'll have to look back at that again in 10 years and confirm wether Nasu ever did any major non-Fate works again, or even minor stuff after he found the low effort winning formula.
It certainly is a massive departure from everything that made TM good or appealing, while also becoming bigger than anything before by attracting a totally different fanbase, so it could probably be called "the death of TM as we know it". Moreover, it's the culmination of all their worst trends that started since Extra combined into one package, while also reducing any pressure to release actual good Fate games and for Nasu to do his own major project drastically.
So honestly, if you don't think there are good reasons to bash FGO, especially after years of enduring it and musou trash as the only side project, I don't know what to tell you.

Seriously, replace Shiki by Shinji and see what change in the narration. Absolutely nothing. The "it's all a dream I couldn't have done that" monologue after killing Arc? 100% Shinji. His first reactions to a strange happenstance is to deny it could have happened, try to delude himself into denying it, to hide it, to do his best to not become involved, and to deflect. Unless he goes berserk and then he is curazy.

When Arc asks for his help he denies, deludes himself, hides, and only when he has exhausted all his possibilities does he think straight. The end of the Chaos arc is slightly better when he decides to stand his ground, but then there are all the weirdness of Roa and he denies, hides, and deludes himself even more.

The manga has a far better adaptation of his personality, but in the VN he is a Shinji Ikari through and through.

Amongst Japanese authors, I find that he's typically one of the worst when it comes to retconning, honestly. I've read a lot of authors with widespread universes and multiple entries into their series and it seems Nasu is pretty bad when it comes to second-guessing himself and revising certain aspects of the series.
