The translation was even more garbage. Even the punctuation was literal. Fate was written like an epic, which is why the characters often have goofy, unnatural ways of speaking and verbal tics. It's deliberately unrealistic to focus on ideals and theming whereas Tsukihime's took a more conventional and grounded approach to giving the characters unique voices.

That aside, it helps that still doesn't have VAs and Takeuchi's art was growing a lot more stiff over time even then.

I can and I've also immersed myself in Japanese literature. Tsukihime was pretty bad compared to some actual novels, I suppose that would be the case as it is self published work however there are WNs on Narou that have better writing than Tsukihime. I get what you say. More than dialogue, I'd say that the interconnected nature of Tsukihime is leagues better than Fate. In Fate, you get obvious bad choices, and obvious good setpieces which don't impact later save for getting character points. The narrative is far more constrained than Tsukihime, the development of the story feels less organic. Tsukihime has a number of optional scenes and throwbacks to earlier optional scenes too, which is good to make your choices feel impactful. I was surprised by the verisimilitude in Tsukihime, which is built rather well to trick you into thinking that all your choices matter. You don't have that in Fate (even when your choices do matter more in Fate, objectively speaking, when you're trying to get a good ending).

Still, the writing of Fate is far better than anything Tsukihime has. UBW and HF are far better than all Tsukihime's routes, with the exception of the end of the maids'. We reach a level of Chuuni in Fate than Tsuki can't compare, with action, drama and secrets. Even on a purely technical level, the scenes are better written, with more details and a better pacing.

I don't have an opinion on Shirou/Shiki. I find Shirou dense, of course, but Shiki can be an absolute retard, doing random things without explanations, wallowing into his misery, not explaining anything to other people even when simply communicating would help tremendously, getting everything wrong, flailing around, and raping maids.

Yeah, good on you anon. The only way I still bear with the game is just logging in daily and occasionally grinding through events/story when doing something else, like watching anime. I've always mantained the opinion that the gameplay is utterly boring and braindead.
I also don't get the gambling aspect at all. I have no problem getting 5* occasionally with just tickets or a couple of 10 rolls, but I also have no urge to roll most of the time because the characters in this trash are so unappealing and shitty, there's no trouble saving up.
And as much as people like to defend the story because of the couple of decent Nasu characters that were wasted on this, I still think it's utter garbage 99% of the time. I mean, even Nasu's parts suffer from all the core issues that make me hate mobage as a pseudo-VN medium to tell a story. The whole premise of this game is really not my thing, and its success is kind of insulting to what I like about Type-Moon.

After all, the same thing happened with Mahoyo, but unlike Koyama, Takeuchi lacks talent and can't even color. His strengths lie in business and is mainly responsible for FGO taking the form of a gacha, so I find it likely that he's grown complacent with the script of the new Tsukihime just lying around. Overall my biggest gripes with most of the designs is that they're so pointless most of the time. Why did any of the design changes need to occur? Arguably only the story-related ones, like Akiha's outfit, were necessary. All the pointless tinkering seems to be at the behest of Nasu as well, as apparently Takeuchi even objected to changing them, especially Arc (there was an interview about this). It feels awfully George Lucas to be changing things which were perfectly fine before. Well, not like it matters much I guess since the Remake won't be coming, and Takeuchi's art these days is shit regardless of the design, but still. In my opinion, Arc redesign = trash, Ciel redesign = gutless, Akiha redesign = Black hairband a shit, Maids = colors are worse but overall too little to care about, Sacchin = Ok, Shiki = Arthurface with hipster glasses
