I feel great for once, I'm now at the point where I can finally enjoy consuming compelling content. When I first tried actually reading (hanahira, 1200 words) it was pure hell and I never went past the part where they first get to school. Reading even NHK easy was a pain for a long while, then manga was a pain, then reading actual compelling content (i.e. not stupid yurishit for 14 year olds) was really really bad but now I can finally follow conversation with (JP) subs in real time and only have to pause every few lines to check some word out, for the first time ever it doesn't feel like learning Japanese is just a neverending chore. Maybe I'll try reading Hanahira again because I'm pretty sure I could now breeze right through it, I first have to do my 400 reviews though haha

Don't kill yourself over it. Do 20 new cards as long as possible. If you go multiple days without being able to finish lower your new count by 5 or so and go from there. Obviously challenge yourself, but if you're spending multiple hours on Anki, that's time you're taking away from other things Japanese or not.

It seems that i'm too much of a brainlet for spaced repetition to work on me. I just forget most words after a day and have to learn them again on the next day, and constantly move them up by 1 day without ever remembering them.
