PHN!X is hands-down the best US player on eAmuse right now. Rea was seen as the best US AC player when cabs ran Programmed World’s server, but PHN!X has passed him up in recent years.

Liberally I would estimate him to be within the top 200, if not 150, of all AC IIDX players. He’s been getting Osaka-Top Records recently, and at some point he might have had a Server Record or two.

The 2nd-best and below players in the US are farther down, and it gets kind of fuzzy trying to rank them.

>> No.19187042

>>19186994
Rhythm games require a very specific skillset and the results in improving over time varies greatly from person to person. There are examples of people playing regularly and still being shit and vice verse.

The only reasonable advice for anyone starting out in any rhythm game is to just play regularly and from time to time bang your head against songs that are harder than the ones you can currently clear.
By the nature of the genre the only way to improve is brute force and using an appropriate playing technique.

Literally never happens. Skill level from other games translating to IIDX is rather poor compared to the inverse. Even pop'n players struggle to translate their skills into IIDX and virtually every other person who careers a non-IIDX game are pretty much hopeless except MAYBE DM players, and it's doubly bad for DDR/PIU/ITG players. However, even a 10dan can start playing mid to late-30s in pop'n in a day or two and you pretty much start at level 14 in SDVX.

Your best bet for Amsterdam is TonTonClub in the Westerpark, who have a DDR and Groove Coaster. For Jubeat you'll have to go a bit further south to Alphen aan den Rijn. Give up and use random.
Play more, hit harder, and hit each note individually if it's slow enough.

>> No.19252594

>>19251681
it is different for every playstyle but it's really something your hands learn by doing. there's a high execution barrier on scales, physically. they're tough to get used to. i used to really struggle with them and now i can usually at least combo them without too many goods, unless it's at a really high speed.

random helps too. both in mixing them up so you can score better and making you better at hitting unusual patterns.

if you aren't using thumbs at all, try to figure out a way to implement them into your playstyle that works for you.

>> No.19253610

>>19251681
just practice them in the 5 seconds you have before the first note, or practice them after the last note and just listen to your keysounds. actually, this works for nearly any difficult pattern, such as denims.

this is a pretty smart idea

personally i can't make myself do the same hand motions i do while playing when i'm not playing. my instincts are to keep my movements fluid and comfortable, which playing iidx is not, always.

Is it better to get on the switch or the ps4?

>> No.19275405

>>19275366
Playing on DS4 is better solely because of the better D-pad and symmetrical grip.
Though left Joycon buttons are better than dpad for such games their size is too small and asymmetrical position isn't the best. Pro controller dpad is terrible because of phantom presses when you are mashing it (especially if yours is from first batches) but I prefer it to joycon because of the size and better tactile feedback.
Anyway, I bought Swtich version just because of possible portability and more varied controls with the touchscreen.

telling that literally everyone in that thread thinks that memorization is the defining characteristic of all rhythm games, like they have only played osu! and have dismissed their own lack of skill compared to others who are better than them as people who "just memorize" rather than it simply being a function of them not playing enough. This isn't really isolated to rhythm games though you see similar levels of dismissiveness towards shmups et al, basically any hard arcade game.

>So I was recently banned from bemaniso.ws for being "racist" for posting the incarceration rates of black people to prove a point. Even though it was not my intent to do so or to be racist, this visibly triggered numerous people, which in addition to my use of a pepe avatar led many people to believe I was a racist. Of course, pepe was a meme long before /pol/ turned him into a hate symbol, but this wasn't an acceptable argument to most people.
>After getting banned on the discord and warned on the site for being racist(TIL facts are inherently racist), both a week after the fact and even though I hadn't done anything on the site, I got pissed. I posted in the discord thread very assertively explaining my point explaining that it was impossible for me to be racist. My rationale was entirely ignored, and I was assailed only by shitposters who were sarcastic and dismissive. Proof enough, perhaps, that I was correct and they couldn't refute it.
>Of course after that I was banned from the site. So, yeah. I don't owe those fuckers anything anymore.
