*I posted this in the last thread, and got some great recs, but I just wanted to post it here since it's a new thread.

So I've been downloading movies on avistaz and have been working my way through them, but I'm almost done with them. I was wondering if you guys could recommend me some more, based on what I've downloaded and a list of qualities I like in movies:

-Cute actresses/lots of females in cast
-Romance is what I like the most but I'm hoping to find something with more fantasy/adventure elements

Here's what I've seen and enjoyed:

Wood Job!
Departures
Days With You
Tokyo Story
The Twilight Samurai
Battle Royale
The Story of Yonosuke
Blue Spring Ride
Closest Love to Heaven
Evergreen Love
Girl in the Sunny Place
Hot Road
Orange
The 100th Love With You
The Liar and His Lover

Thanks!

Well, I have watched a lot of movies and show already so I give less attention to the story now. Though I'd say the story is quite average. But my main grievances are about the execution of the film. The characters were underdeveloped or uninspired. The acting felt phoned in. The main lead was so good in Hana Kimi, but in this film he was terrible. The romance was also underdeveloped. How am I supposed to root for the couple? Also the movie felt too long with its pacing. I had had watched Orange and that movie had 2.5hrs of runtime and I never had feeling of it being too long. I cant even remember a memorable scene in this movie. lol. There is still a part 2 for this movie and it might change my opinion, if I have time to watch it.

2017 had Quartet and Reverse; both were a great watch.
As for winter 2018, anone was decent I guess. Hirose can't really act and any actress could do her role. It started strongly, but as it was coming to an end, it felt kinda... underwhelm-ish? The end was just fine though, but I can't put my finger on what went wrong during the mid-to-last few episodes.
Spring 2018 had a lack of watchable dramas, so I ended up watching a Fuji TV getsuku drama, a time-slot I started ignoring 5 years ago, but ironically, Confidence Man JP seemed the least awful drama among the others. Not even TBS had something watchable (Their spring dramas are full of janiizu). Thankfully, Confidence Man JP was decent, while it did grow repetitive and kinda stale after 5-6 episodes, Nagasawa's over-the-top acting was phenomenal and made it worth watching.

Norwegian Wood is probably one of my favourite movies to date. It's like a Japanese version of The Perks of Being A Wallflower, except more depressing and less gay. And it's based on a Murakami novel, the novel obviously being a lot better.

General premise of the story goes as following:

> college guy with existential crisis rekindles his relationship with the girlfriend of his best friend who committed suicide a year prior while discovering himself as a person in the process

It's a very good movie to watch/book to read if you're at a point in life where you feel numb and lost. That's how I got to reading the book, and eventually the movie. By the end, you will feel like a new man.

sounds like literally every mumble core indie movie ever. yes, I know Murakami. just tired of "le existential crisis in college" meme. people who didn't become NEET as teenagers and still want to pretend to be depressed can get fucked.

It wasn't made by a japanese director so it might not count, and lacks a certain something japanese films tend to have. It tried to nail down the slow moving cinematography the country is known for but ultimately the film felt really disingenuous. Search for asadora. Most of them are set before bubble era. Current asadora, Hanbun Aoi is set around early 70's to early 90's, which the first arc is supposedly located at Gifu, and back and forth to Tokyo set during the second arc (currently running).

I would recommend Teruteru Kazoku, set around post WW2 until late 80's. The first arc is set in 50's Nagasaki and 60's Osaka for most of the part. It's not really rural but you can see the old Osaka's vibe.

There is also Always - Sanchome no Yuuhi trilogy.

Olympics are coming, they don't want to look like barbarians. But to be honest, I think flip phones might be a bit outdated even for Japan.

I've watched it and liked it as well.I didn't mind the rotoscope, it was pretty good compared to like Aku no Hana.

Anyone know where the group subbing Terrace House: Boys x Girls Next Door is getting its raws from?

On Nyaa there are only English subbed releases for the show, but they are incomplete at present.

They rip the raws straight from Netflix. The only way i know to watch the raws is to use a VPN and watch them from there.

Are there any dramas like this but with a female in the situation of an idol/celebrity? This show is funny, but I want to see something like this with a female lead.

I watched pic related The first half is rather meh, but character development picks up in the second ha;f and in the end, it's pretty nice. Not as good as Snow on the Blades that lead me to it, but still worth a watch.
