There's a huge torrent of albums from the deceased MikuDB around, it's probably on nyaa still. Other than that, just look for albums on download sites (I only know 9tensu since I don't use them, maybe others could name more). For individual songs not on albums, which actually a huge amount of the songs you'll find after you get past the popular stuff, the only reliable way is to download it from NND or even Youtube (audio quality will be less than ideal but what can you do).

Last thread some anon posted a collection of a few hundred Miku songs, and another of Len songs - it's probably still around if you search the thread.

That's the hard part, besides that just browse figures and other merch you want, look for reviews, etc. Amazon JP delivers overseas, but there are other japanese sites that do as well (look for the buyfag guides). If your country has draconian customs like mine, find out how much tax they'll make you pay before you buy stuff first. And don't buy everything you see at first sight, if you settle for a figure you just find OK, next month may come a new figure which you absolutely love but won't have the money to get. Have fun.

Similar to what anon said, you should be very strict with yourself and set yourself rules. In my case it's easy since I earn money through both my bank account and Paypal account. My bank account pays bills and food, and Paypal is used to buy otaku merchs. I NEVER broke that rule and never plan to break it. Try to come up with something similar.

Set up an account over myfigurelist and start making up a wishlist in order to understand what you'd really like. Try to not buy on impulse, and always ask yourself where you'll be putting whatever you'll be buying. You'll need to browse and lurk a lot to get a sense on how much things cost. Also avoid anything sold by Chinese/Hong Kong people, you'll get scammed and it will be a bootleg for sure. Bootlegs are not worth it.

Thanks for the advises. So far, I'm planning to open a savings account and set a rule, at the end of each month, of what goes into saving and what goes into buying merchandising. Using a limit somewhere between 10 - 25% of what remains after regular spendings for hobbies looks like a good idea.

Buying on impulse is something I learned to avoid a while ago. Basically I set a rule that, if I don't keep thinking about buying something after three days of the first thought it is not that worthy and should be placed on a really low priority.

I tend to buy on Amazon.co.jp and Buyee, mainly. Amazon is super nice because of their GlobalShipping thing where they pay to customs for you, if needed, in exchange of a little deposit that it is always MUCH lower than the 25 € base + 21% of product value that my government makes me to pay for my chinese robots.

You got told wrong. Standing room only sucks. Everyone tries to push up as close as they can any you're making contact with someone from all angles. There's no room to jump and do anything, it's exactly the opposite. Assigned seating means everyone stays in their little area and you get a buffer between the people in front of you and behind you. That's the configuration where you get room to jump around and dance and shit.
The only benefit to standing room only is that it's FCFS, so if you're willing to stand in line for 8 hours, you get rewarded with a prime spot. Conversely with assigned seating, no matter what you do you still might get stuck in the last row of the farthest section.
