Narita's works have always been more about the character interactions rather than the fighting. The powerlevel and shit has always been more of the background/ to set the scenery. Even in Baccano where the main plot is about nigh unkillable immortals, the focus was not on how these near mary sue powerlevel go around curbstorming shit but more on them going on zany adventures or their relationships with other characters.

Richard: Uses a bootleg fake version of Excalibur. Was summoned using a box that once contained Avalon which resembles the real Avalon.
Zealot: A girl who tried to become the 18th Old Man of the Mountain, but was unable to. She uses copies of the previous seventeen Hassans' Zabaniyas based off of records she'd read, but has no unique Zabaniya of her own.
Pale Rider: An embodiment of the Black Plague, derived from its sheer infamy.
Jack the Ripper: A formless wraith who is one of many incarnations of "Jack the Ripper". As Jack's identity was never verified, the person in question never entered the Throne of Heroes. All Servants summoned under the name of "Jack the Ripper" are mere wraiths who embody some aspect of Jack's legend.
Dumas: An author famous for writing re-imaginings of pre-established stories. His primary ability is the power to create fake Noble Phantasms that have the potential to surpass the original myth.

From Tsukihime Plus Period:

'------Ciel, you're leaving the Burial Agency, are you?'
A question is thrown, with murderous intent.
'I've heard that such rumors are spreading.'
Ciel replied in an emotionless voice.
The one called Merem giggled.
'So it is. Your objective was to regain your humanity by killing Roa. Since that has been accomplished, there is no reason to be with us.
Frankly speaking, you were invited by the British Museum, weren't you? Now that your next workplace has been arranged, don't you think this rumor is quite persuasive?'
'......I am no mage. Even if something goes wrong, I won't be joining the Association.'
'Ah, that's fortunate. Since it's really dull there. I figured if someone like you, who already knows the taste of blood, went there he'd die of boredom.
Of course. Dying of boredom, you wouldn't want to die such a Dead Apostle-like death.
Well------although you are more Dead Apostle-like than that Apostle over there in the first place.'
'------'
'Besides. I know that the rumor is just a rumor. I mean, if you were trying to leave, you would have left a year ago.
It's been a year since Roa was exterminated. And you've been continuing the Dead Apostle-hunting. If your objective was in regaining humanity,
isn't it strange that you didn't leave a year ago?'
'------so, what are you trying to say, Merem Solomon?'
'Eh? Well, I'm saying that you don't really care about being human or not. All you're interested in is killing vampires.
Like the others, you're no more than a killing machine. Ah, but I'm different. I'm just a kid who likes toys.'
'------are you? Then don't bother with my affairs. Like what you said, I'm just a machine that kills Dead Apostles.
So even if you're a co-worker, there's no guarantee that I won't assault you, is there?'
The Dead Apostle called Merem laughs, shrouded in darkness.
'Then, Ciel, why are you still hunting Dead Apostles?'

>And then at the end of the story

'Ciel, if there's a chance, that would be now.'
The boy spoke such words.
'---------'
She stops her steps.
The boy's intentions are incomprehensible, but his words speak the truth.
There is no watcher on her, and her only companion cannot move properly.
If she is to dissapear, like a cat without her leash, now is the perfect chance.
'------------'
After taking a deep breath.
'Forget about it. The opportunity has left a year ago.'
She says, and starts to walk with the boy in her arms.
'Hm. That's just acting calmness, isn't it.'
'Yes. However, since this is the first time, it would be an impudence to stop before I can't bear it anymore.
giving up just because I'm fed up with it, is rather childish.'
'Hm, that's like paying the price of your sins? It's funny, since that sounds quite human.'
'Eh. Do you envy me, Merem?'
'......yeah- in a way. About as much as you envy me. However, then how long does it last?
You're not saying that sin lasts until you die, are you?'
'That would be convenient...... But I don't think so.
Since I don't even know what my sin is, in the first place.'
Until it is certain, I will confront the darkness within me, she says.
The boy, gazes far.
'What, then it's a damned bond that lasts a lifetime, isn't it? Don't you know the simple truth?
That nothing can be cleared before it comes to an end?
He says, in a rather exhausted tone.
'Indeed... those words carry a weight when you say it, Merem.'
She giggles like a boy, but she doesn't stop walking.
like that, she returns to her old workplace.
The boy doesnt know. He doesn't know that she had always wanted to escape, that she repeats the same things over and over again in each task.
In the end.
The woman called Ciel goes searching for her sins until her old nest itself is gone.
Afterwards, whether the sin comes in the end or not, will be another story.....

And thoughts on these guys? Feel like a good waste of Master/Servant pairings. Could have been good for another Fate spin-off (yeah yeah I know), but seeing a bunch of powerful or intelligent magi (minus Kadoc) go up against and then lose to a self-insert in just boring.

Most-to-least: Strange Fake>>>Zero>>>>>>Apocrypha

SF is my first Narita work, but I can really see how he wants to get everything right, and is very deliberate with his stuff. I also like the way he writes Servants, and the fact that most of his Masters aren't incompetent either also works. I like the way he shows some of them planning, like Bazdilot, and Faldeus. Flat and Tine are great too. The American setting is also nice.

Zero is second, mostly because I just can't find myself caring about any of the Masters. A bunch of grown ass adults whining or crying and then fucking themselves over isn't interesting, honestly. I don't really like most of the Servants either, so I kinda find myself lagging behind a bit when reading it.

Apocrypha is...something else, I'll say. It has yet another disappointing Japanese Jeanne D'arc, a trap, and a bunch of randomly added Servants. Feels almost like Stay Night in that regard. Also the plot makes it seem like this Great War between two factions, but its mostly just the typical Good guys vs Evil guys, with Black Faction being the evil guys, and Red faction just being irrelevant.

They're pretty simple.
I didn't really get FSN on my first read as a teen and only understood Shirou after some discussion online.
But I think his (good) works are more about the atmosphere and the characters than any major overlaying themes.

That's because there really isn't much, the only "themes" tying the whole thing are Shiki's character that is made explicit in the epilogue. But Tsukihime is way more focused on the individual heroines, unlike F/SN with its big focus on Shirou.

The immortality, and the stagnation themes. I also honestly didn't get the Shirou/Saber thing about her wish.

When I'm reading the work, it just sort of jumbles together, but when I look at it from the outside perspective, its easier.

Maybe its the monologues/infodumps. They're definitely not his strong point and I end up blanking out on them.

I think the Church basement scene near the end of Fate does a fantastic job of showing Saber's conflict and how Shirou's relates to it. But yeah, if you zone out during long exposition you'd end up missing it.
Not sure what you're referring to as immortality/stagnation, in GO shit it's pretty cookie cutter and simple. He's used it as really cool background for villains like Roa and Zouken though.

I don't think you're dumb, in any case. Sometimes I'm really into a VN, and can perfectly absorb every line of dialogue and its meaning. Other times I'm more impatient, or it hasn't done a good job of grabbing me, so I'm just rushing to the next bit of exciting content. Happens with everyone.

>Even if Solomon did not feel anything, I... no, we could not bear it.
>I asked the King: "Do you not feel anything? Do you not think of correcting this tragedy?"
>Thus he answered: "Not at all. God judges humanity, I, the king, merely rules them. You should not suffer over their tragedy. Humans will be judged justly as all living beings in this world."
>Why such rationale exists?

The villain was someone who was supposed to rule and guide humanity into process and evolution and maintain the human order, but because of his own inhumanity and immortality, he was unable to understand human life. He could also see everything so all tragedies in history and the accumulation of human suffering overwhelmed him and made him pity humans, changing his purpose to try to prevent all tragedies, becoming the Beast of Benevolence/Pity, the First Sin. His solution was to pull the plug on everything and use that energy to go back in time to the genesis and recreate a planet without concept of death, where he envisioned humans without knowing death as always smiling and not suffering. I kind of like it.

Yeah, I don't get why Nasu wouldn't want good TM games. There's so much potential in the setting. It's hard not to take it as pure greed/laziness when he sticks to only the shittiest mediums that make the most money for years.
It's even crazier when you consider that he said FGO was basically GOTY 2016, purely because of the climax of the story that he considered an "unforgettable experience" (and as a whole it was inconsistent as fuck).

I'm worried that he's bought too much into mobage trash being genuinely good in any way, and that they're a good replacement for VNs or actual games (he describes learning about mobage when he started FGO as a big culture shock that impressed him). GO fans encouraging that line of thinking doesn't help, of course.

>>19035570
Writing the story and characters. Takeuchi designed Sion, who of course also had heavy involvement from Nasu (you can see some of that in Plus Disc).
Additionally, French Bread making a new Melty Blood seems to be outright blocked behind Nasu finishing the Remake, and they've publicly asked him to hurry the fuck up.

Whereas Melty is a good enough games that I'm pretty sure a lot if not most of its fans today are not Nasuverse fans. Unlike Extella where the onyl reason 99% of its playerbase plays it is because of the name because it's an otherwise generic musou game.

>Heroes beat up the villain

It is LITERALLY the same fucking template of Persona 3, 4, and 5. It's an easy and lazy way of tying a huge number of characters under a single, fancy sounding "theme" that isn't really all that deep. Probably the best Nasu can do with gachashit, but that's yet again the limitation of the medium showing itself, you have to get all these shitty Servants in under the umbrella of "muh humanity".

It can't even be compared to the more intimate relation that Kirei, SHIKI, and Lio Shirazumi have with Shirou and the Shikis. Goetia has two interesting connections to Mashu and Roman, yet the player can do fucking nothing but parrot what Roman says. And Roman is sidelined as a totally secondary character for 98% of that shitty story. Once again, if it wasn't a gachashit, we might've had a remotely interesting protagonist.

Nasu is finally exploring the concept of Beasts/Evils (or Sins) of Humanity which he had in mind before he began writing (this was present in his Prototype Draft, previous to everything he ever wrote). Known Advent of the End Beasts:

Goetia. Sin of Pity. Beast I. Antagonist of arc I of FGO: "Observer on Timeless Temple" (Nasu's engrish). The Nega Summon.
Tiamat. Sin of Regression. Beast II. Boss of Babylonia Chapter in Arc I of FGO. The Nega Genesis.
Kiara. Sin of Pleasure. Beast III/R side (there's a L side in Beast III). She's from Fate/Extra CCC but she became a Beast in the collab Event. The Nega Savior (as in Buddha-type).
Cath Palug, also known as Primate Murder. Beast IV. Sin of Competition/Comparison. He's a major spoiler.
Beast of Revelations 666. Sin of Greed/Gluttony. Antagonist of Fate/Prototype*. The Nega Messiah.
Beast VII. Presumed Antagonist of Arc II of FGO: "Cosmos in the Lostbelt." The candidate is this "God of another planet"/"Satan Who Ars As Lucifero." It seems to be linked to grudges/ambition for what we know so far.

*The Whore of Babylon/Mother Harlot (the fallen Rome) and Manaka, Proto Arthur's first Master (The Potnia Theron) are associated with Beast VI. Either as halves of it or something, we don't know.
Merlin is also said to be a Beast-like Creature in some youth underdeveloped stage. In some rl life lore, Merlin was born to be the Anti Christ, Nasu took this half demon/incubi background.

I know but to Nasu: "This is Roman's story." I never said FGO was good, I said the idea and concept were good, they were sidelined for self-insert harem hijicks. But the finale of FGO was written (the scenes with Mashu, Goetia and Roman) before FGO became a cashcow, they were the first thing Nasu wrote of the game, as he worked with UBW anime script and Tsukihime R (whatever he could write of it), and it shows the rambling old Nasuverse philosophy babble before he lost his touch. I'm just tired of people constantly talking about Goetia and the final part 1 chapters as if they give FGO some sort of "hidden value" that makes it special. The way I see it, it's a disgusting waste of potential and Nasu's good ideas that might've seen the light of day in a much better medium, with much better execution.
"The story gets better later :^)" has been used way too often as an excuse for a shit game. Especially since I don't even consider the "good story" that good, but that's down to personal preference.

No, I agree. I mean I enjoy FGO for all it is, but I also wish it could have been adapted to another medium where you eliminate the self-insert or somehow make them a character. In the first arc, the hard philosophy choices were carried by Roman and Mashu, so it wasn't as noticeable how awful the self-insert was. Cosmos in the Lostbelt is falling apart to me because there are these hard choices the blank self-insert has to make (which are really interesting) but it falls apart when it has no introspection or generic dialogue.

I think it's more likely ORT or a TYPE would be a chapter boss like Tiamat was. But the end boss/the alien god/Satan/Beast VII is going to be human. Because Nasu needs to do his debate-philosophy finale, and the story is about how this tragedy was brought by the "evil of the system itself." It's in the PV. My take is that he's really Marisbilly Animusphere or something linked to him. If you actually read his introduction, he:
- Contacted the Crypters, whom he had chosen beforehand.
- Talks very human-like and has a human understanding and intelligence (nothing incomprehensible as the aliens-aliens we know).
- The "alien invasion" didn't come from outer space according to the Prologue.
- The Crypters are basing what they know from Marisbilly's theories.
- He's the Lord of the Cosmos/Astrology/Astronomy tower.
- He's been said to love all humanity by Solomon (uhm, you know, like Beasts are usually described).
- The PV starts with their family chant (in a very sinister way) and OVA special has the Animusphere family goals as centerpiece.
- Part II is foreshadowed and contacted by Part I according to Nasu (ORT is nowhere hinted or relevant in Part I story). When Nasu writes, he puts an emphasis on the Animusphere (look at CCC and Seraphics).
-The alien of another planet gets nicknamed "Satans Who Ars As Lucifero" by Douman because he's very "similar." So it could be: he's someone fallen from grace or a consumated liar who deceives and misleads.
-He never actually says he's a god of another planet, he says he will come to this world as one, and that Crypters must prepare a world that will 'accept him'. Ivan's faith in his god made it unable for him to take root in his lostbelt (this is important! that's why the tree of fantasy/utopia couldn't germinate well).
-Kotomine kind of compares the situation of the enemy now with HF's Angra Mainyu, he's going to "Bless a life that wants to be born". As you know, Angra Mainyu was a regular human being who got wishes engraved, maybe same happened with the poor unfortunate one who is the basis of the Satan/God of Another Planet.

It's an AU timeline where a meteorite hit Earth around the time Ivan started his rule in Russia. For his people to survive the cold merciless winter, he has them (and himself) merged with phantasmal Beasts. They became known as the "Yaga". The problem is... that only them and some animals survived. Human Order collapsed, so the timeline was cut off history and got marked from pruning. But didn't get pruned, this along with some other timelines survived, but only a small portion of it. It can't prosper or growth. The "alien invasion" is literally the Lostbelts hitting the now blank and textureless world and trying to anchor to grow and replace the panhistory with their own. They can prosper and do this thanks to the "Trees of Fantasies", their duty is to expand helped by a Crypter who is to assist the Lostbelt King.

The Yaga have lived in their pocket world for centuries have never seen the stars, or heard music, and have forgotten empathy in a world of the basis of survival of the fittest for the scarce food supplies. The last scene they have is Salieri playing Twinkle Twinkle Star for them as their dome shatters and they can see the starlit sky before their existence and timeline is denied/pruned. Actually is a very nice scene.

I'm not sure if he planned it willingly. He could have despaired after watching how "evil" the system was or he got sucked into whatever he was working as (he and all his family) and received the prayers and grudges of all the culled worlds which transformed him (like with Angra, he didn't willingly choose this). Maybe he wanted prosperity for humanity but would prosperity come when worlds are arbitrarily pruned by a system? It just sounds like the bad guy wants to revamp the system (like Goetia did but with other method). Goetia focused more on the suffering and his pity for humans. The whole "unchosen" grudge is kind of a theme share by Crypters and their Lostbelts, and the "God" said: "chose ambition or nothingness." The system has a lot to do with it, that's why I ruled out the external alien thing as end boss (not saying we won't have a Tiamat case, I'm sure if there's a Type is in Daybit Lostbelt), because of the PV.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised that if it did end up releasing in 3-4 years from now, that we'd see another revamp of the designs. I'll be frank with you: I don't really care if a character is a human, Servant, alien, DA, as long they are well written or interesting. They are all fictional characters. My main beef with FGO was to saturate the cast for the gacha so a few actually got development and an arc that made them unique, and sometimes distracted to the execution of the story (Mordred fighting Lancer Alter Artoria in London would have been interesting if they had interacted and didn't get a one liner cutscene without any fucking emotional heaviness of "Mordred is saving England now vs Artoria who is going to destroy it" irony). It just felt she got slapped on the ending to justify her getting added in the gacha. However, speaking frankly I prefer a Servant like Nightingale to a human Kuzuki, for example. It's all in how they are executed. Latest event has a full human oc cast (with reused Servant cg) and has been mindnumbing boring.

In that sense, Lostbelt I with its smaller cast which everyone plays a role (and sometimes an emotional one) is a step in the right direction of how to fix things (giving the self-insert some characterization would be the best but I won't hold my breath). I prefer the outline plot of the first arc, but it's begun to fix at least this grievance of a bloated cast of one scene wonders or Servants who don't even get a fucking line before getting killed. Everyone in Lostbelt had a scene, memorable actions, lines and a purpose. That's all I can ask of a work of fiction.

>> No.19036266

All fine points anon, I just don't care about how much FGO "fixes", it's irredeemable shit to me. All the tiny gold nuggets that come out of it will just continue drowning in the ocean of shit it has accumulated up to this point. The only "fix" I see is Nasu working on something that isn't directly associated with this clusterfuck, and preferably not with Fate in general.
But good on you if you've managed to enjoy any part of FGO.

And additionally, I would argue against your point about character diversity/balance not being important. That was a huge part of what made TM appealing to me personally, the variety of different beings and factions at play, it's part of what creates the TM "feel" that marked Nasu's earlier works.
In the current event all the characters are normal humans, of course they're boring. That's totally not what I'm asking for. It's homogenous and boring in the same way that an all-Servant cast is. Though Servants are also particular for the fact that they all have a base to work off of, while creating a fully original character that's actually cool (not a generic normal human) is more challenging.

>The people living in those worlds would have no way of knowing this, but the Twenty-Seven Dead Apostle Ancestors, said to be the apex of the Dead Apostles, do not exist in worlds where Heroic Spirit summoning is possible.

But Jester in Fate / Strange Fake mentions the 27 DAA in Volume 2:
>There is an organization, called the Burial Agency, made up of the very best of the executors. It’s members have the power to do battle with the “Twenty-Seven Ancestors,” known as the pinnacle of vampire-kind. Their name was passed down among the Dead Apostles, who they would, it was said, occasionally slaughter solo, as a legend, a terror, and a warning.

Narita had no idea Nasu had defined the world building when he published Strange Fake. There are a lot of contradictions in Strange Fake because in general Nasu prefers to be hand off with works that aren't "in house" production. For example, in how Gilgamesh uses his clairvoyance, Nasu portrays the process very different when he writes Babylonia (Gilgamesh doesn't remember anything: he's put in some sleeping state he automatically writes his prophecy and later can choose to read what he wrote or not).
