As far as purple prose goes, it has it's place every couple sentences, but use it sparingly. Make sure you use it for the right sentences. Every now and then flex your literary muscle, but nobody wants to read a fucking thesaurus.


Don't necessarily limit your words, just focus on using as many words as needed and more importantly the right words. If you do that, you shouldn't have sentences with 15+ words. Pay attention to the connotation and you'll find the "purple" words will naturally fall in to place.

Also, proofread your work the day after and pay attention not only to grammar but your sentence structure. Guarantee after busting out a story you'll realized you used the same phrases multiple times.

P.s. look into removing "passive voice" from your writing. It's a myth that it doesn't have a place but most of the time it's unnecessary
