I didn't quite come to an understanding with the ending emotionally. From the main characters perspective, it must be absolutely beautiful and invoke tearstorms. But then, [spoilers] it's the end of the world at the same time. Humanity comes to an end. But, as horrible as the new world looks, the new creatures are smarter than humans. The end of the world is caused by the effects of a single human.[/spoiler]

So, how am I to feel about this? Good end? Bad end? Best+Worst end? Or am I overanalyzing this by trying to think outside of the main characters thoughts?

The entire story is a conflict between how Fumimori sees the world and how everyone else sees it.

Working from the true ending, we find that the key to Saya no Uta is that this incongruity of perspectives is resolved not by the main character's getting back his old perspective, but by a woman who loves him re-making the world to fit his new perspective because it was through his new perspective that he came to love her. Thus the ending is thought of less as an "end" to the world and more as a "change" to the world, and given that the story is told mostly from Fumimori's "warped" perspective, I find myself inclined to focus on the relationship between him and Saya, see Saya as he saw her, and emphasize the romance of her "final gift" rather than the actual details of billions of mutated humans.

I think this "sympathetic" perspective with the authors' intent, and I think the contrast of this view with our obvious desire to not see all the suffering caused by Saya and Fumimori is just another layer of the conflict in the story. It's supposed to make us feel a little strange inside.

Very different things.

Also, Fuminori explained it even though his logic was a little retarded and insane. "I can't kill Yoh, she's human, that would be murder. Oh wait I can kill them easily when they don't look anything like humans even though I'm fully aware they actually are and that only my perception of them is warped." He was just kind of nutty.

I must be the only one who hated Saya and Fuminori. They were too blinded by their own love and their situation they really didn't care about any other people. While Saya loved Fuminori, she had no regard towards anyone else, mutating and killing them without remorse. Fuminori, likewise, didn't care that Koji's lover was murdered and took his later murders as sort of a game he joked with Saya about. I consider Fuminori to have become the monster that he saw everyone else as. Koji beating the shit out of Saya and Fuminori was the most satisfying thing in the game for me.

>> No.1896861

For some reason, my favorite ending is still the White Room.
Fuminori doesn't turn into a monster, has a semblance of solace and Saya lives on.
Not happy, but not too sad or enraging either.
Also, the most fitting one for the ED theme to follow.

>> No.1896878

I think the germination end is the only decent ending. The game pretty much revolves around the mystery of Saya's true form and purpose and how everything is a matter of perspective. The germination end is the only end that really expresses that and you learn the most about Saya in it.

I don't think anyone who just saw saya as a monster and nothing else could have enjoyed the game very much.

>> No.1896886

>>1896856
you're not alone, theres bunch of anons here, who never fell in love, and dont know what is it too

>> No.1896908

>>1896856
The thing was that both of them were cut of from the rest of society, so they began to think less and less about how the rest of the world operated.

Saya basically acted the way she did in order to survive. She only attacked humans (excluding the missing baby) for Fuminori's sake. Fuminori in contrast saw the entire world as inhuman monsters and tried to act normally throughout. It's only when he met Saya that he actually felt motivated to do something other than resign himself to his life.

tl;dr Both of them were already messed up individually. It's only when they got together that they got proactive with their actions since they didn't want to go back to being alone again.

Not saying I condone them, but I at least have sympathy for them.

>I must be the only one who hated Saya and Fuminori.

Not entirely. In a way I came to recognize Fumimori as a monster around about the point when he pushed Koji into the well. At that point I basically considered Fumimori the bad guy, more so than Saya, who'se nature was too fundamentally alien to really class as such.

I understand why Fumimori became that way, surrounded by nothing but the liveliest of awfullness day in, day out, I understand that anyone would crack under the strain of having to live in such horror for the rest of their lives.

But he's still a murderous sociopathic madman though.

Also, I play Call of Cthuhlu, so for me the 2nd end is the good end, and I kept wondering when investigators hired by Oumi's parents were going to kick down the front door and start shooting at things with shotguns.
But like I said, that's just because I play CoC, and that's usually how most investigations end up anyway.

...Actually...

Upon reflecting on this VN, Fuminori represents us, and everything JP is obsessed with represents Saya.

Fuminori brings up on the main storyline a topic that arrived in a manga he read; a man becomes disgusted with humans and becomes attached to robots, which he then grows a deep love with.

We remove our affiliations with others in order to spend more time with our beloved obsessions. However, the endings of /jp/ and Saya no Uta are not completely different. Our love will not flower into something as beautiful as changing the world.

Think of the bad end - some force (In this case, Ryouko and Kouji) bring forth the end of Saya. Without anything left, Fuminori has nothing, and decides that there is only one path to walk from there on forward.

So, /jp/, your ending is a bad end. Some force will step between you and your Saya. Isn't it sad?

I KNOW. THAT'S WHAT I KEEP TELLING THEM. NO GODDAMN IT THE SHOTGUN WILL NOT WORK ON THE ELDER GOD.
