The thing about that mutation is that I believe it gives you spellstock in whatever the rod could be used for. It only applies for when you physically pick them up off the floor too. Harvesting rods from crops, crafting them, taking them out of objects like your heirship trunk or salary chest doesn't absorb their charges. Only picking it up.
On the side, I always keep a dominate rod on me on the off chance I see a rare enemy I want to add to my ranks.
In this case, it was an unidentified rod on the ground (a rusty rod). I only went ahead and picked it up for thinking it was just the rod of gem I hadn't encountered yet.

Start by getting a bowgun. For hero mode character, the ultimate weapon is a 6-slot bowgun with leech, 2 autofire and 3 fast shooting mods. Just aim right infront of your char to spray the bolts all over the screen. Ideally used with rogue class.
You can hold spacebar when using manual reload weapons to keep constant damage output.
Rely on your allies more, just like in elona allies equipment and skills make a difference. Get leadership skill to make pets shoot more often.
Key elements for long-term survival are: leveled villa+mandatory parties, weapon mods, engineering, leadership and rogue. For longer games, leftover money go on trainer upgrades.

There was a guide and some paste with ai examples in previous threads. Busic rule is to not use uncontroll and swarm while run wildly is active. Wear attribute shield at all times, use shadow step as gap closer and distant attack at range > 1 when shadow step fails. Psychic wave/eye of insanity is up to you, nerve arrow is useless. Super regene is % max hp heal, not buff. use it as heal on low hp.

Manual-loading gun with autoreload mod is the ultimate endgame weapon for AI.
While defending, aim has no delay, yet allies never share the same target, so everyone needs high enough damage to oneshot any enemy.
As the result, fire rate is extremely important for allies with 'defend' enabled.

You can somewhat change AI with AP(look AP page on wiki), also use tamer's whip and directive/command flag - again, wiki/ally.
If you go with Custom translation/tweak mod of Plus, it has fully(to some extent) customizeable AI that allows very interesting behavior. Think dragon age/FF ai setting. Refer to Anna's blog entry, link on pastebin i think. Custom is not up to date with the last Plus release, but its not much of a problem, just install 1.76 Plus first.

Depends on how far you want to proceed. Ranged is good enough for storyline levels - you deal less damage but there is no downtime.
Romesque is pretty useless as ranged, i'd go for Stacy instead.
Absolute protect is more suited for ranged pets too.

Game doesnt let you savescum, in fact anti-savescumming measures have been introduced some time ago, to the point where it disabled load game hotkey.
Its a hack from a mod that allows you to savescum. you may as well autobackup save to restore at any point because game has no countermeasures for that.

Saying that game's way of signaling is not good enough has exactly the same meaning as 'its game's fault for not being obvious enough'.

It actually completely kills all the thrill and leaves the game with no means to punish the player for not paying attention, which is bad no matter what game it is.

Thanks! I was in config.txt long ago and forgot font was there. Here's some info from poking around.

Can increase font, but, chatlog only sees the greatest effect. Elsewhere gets little or nothing. Max font size seems to be 17, default was 14. Higher just breaks the log.

Someone mentioned Meiryo UI as a font. I tried it out. It helped with the quest board a bit but not enough.

I'll just have to use my old solution. Meiryo UI & 17 font lets me bump up to 1024 res at least. I use a Auto Hotkey script to cover the game window with a magnifying glass and zoom in. Made 800x600 fill most of my screen. Any higher res couldn't zoom in enough without chopping too much game screen.

For the hell of it, tried doubling clockW clockH, comes out a garbled mess. Oh well.

Meiryo UI is designed to display japanese characters together with latin-based ones without issues. In general if you don't use setlocale util with japanese locale you wont really get any special benefits from this font. Nothing should stop you from soloing the game if you wish to. Don't need to have pets to complete everything in the game but they can be helpful if you properly invest in them and make them good. Ideally yeah you would want to get to act 3 and reach the cap speed Leold can get you to before consuming Hermes. However if you do manage to get to 800 speed before act 3 I wouldn't sweat it. Just use your AP on something else and start consuming Hermes. I know that's what I'm going to do.

Literally impossible in Elona. One may find a joy in researching the most efficient way to level PC, playing around with pets and doing silly shit, customizing everything customizeable, making dsiposable permadeath chars to nethack elona - Its all viable and a proper way to play the game as long as its fun for you.

First got to the AP speed cap for Act 2 and then just used speed uppers and herbs. I'd time the use of my speed uppers along the same time I used my blessed potions of potentials to restore attribute potentials. Monsters that are heavy produce corpses that when cooked sell for more. So you can use the feed on ranch animals to make them heavier so their steaks can sell for a bit more. Seasoning the animal and blessing the cooked steak/food item will also lead to higher selling prices. No idea if there is an exact formula out there for the above mentioned though. I don't recall making the breeder heavier making offspring that is heavier. All that is passed on are those special traits like produces more corpses when killed or something like that. I suppose your major concern then is finding a breeder that is a balance of heavy yet spawns other stuff quickly.

If weight isn't passed on, I think the optimum play early game is to go for rat farms. dump the meat on dryrocks to get jerky, which sells for more than the corpses themselves since you get 5 pieces.

If you (will) have fire dragon child as a pet, lightning. it has bigger magnitude than magic and deals way more damage vs wet. Magic is generally strong without debuffs so its the safest choice, however dragon child is very reliable to apply fire/ice/lightning resist debuff.
Some amount of nether damage is good for life steal, even a couple of levels is enough.
If you wait status effects, a bit of dark or chaos damage may be useful, but usually targets are either nearly immune to that shit(bosses, gods) or die too fast to care about that.

You can change it to lightsaber later for 100% penetration, gather evolution hearts and level skills required for sharp equip remake, pot of fusion recipe.

Acts as HP for everything except bleed/poison/death word etc. If receiving a single blow that'd deal damage greater than your MP such as a gauge attack, it will put MP in the negatives instead of immediately depleting HP. That gives you one chance guaranteed to survive a way too powerful attack, although every hit after the one that put your MP in the negatives will do HP damage as usual

When you need to drop dozens of items of the same type it shop, you just open drop menu and hold the key to drop everything in sequence.

Since the 'same thing' is usually placed in sequence, it does exactly that in practice. press * and hold hotkey for top starting item, it'll drop everything below on the list while you are holding the hotkey.

It's really not worth arguing for with time savings anon. You can drop things pretty quickly even without multidrop.

All this talk of multidrop feature tells me to stay away from it. I already have a problem with misplacing items when I quickly go to drop things. Having anything that allows me get rid of things easier can't possibly be good for me. I always visit the strange scientist with shame in my eyes.

Just now I dropped ~180 items in warehouse within 5 seconds or so., next I need to drop ~150 crafted items to shop. 'pretty quickly' is a bit too vague.

I don't know about you anon but I can drop things as quickly with or without multidrop. I just see multidrop as making it safer to drop things because the menu for it is always there to see what you're dropping. Seriously wtf are we arguing about saving a microsecond on doing shit? You'll learn to be more careful as you play longer. If you want to be drilled until you don't mess up as much anymore try permadeath mode, though your journey on the first ~5-10 characters will be suffering
