Seriously, that same format would be perfect for Tsuki. You can make each episode really long, make it hyper-violent, and not increase the number of action scenes, while still having at least one per episode.
I want it so bad. That shit would cause a big change in the way people see modern TM thanks to FGO. Fate is done, but there's so much potential for genuinely cool stuff with Nasu's other properties. They just have to put some serious effort in, for the first time in years.

The whole thing is still Servants doing stupid shit, and big dumb kaiju battle at the end. It's very to the point and pretty much what everyone expected, everything about is nu-Fate. The "twinkle twinkle little star" scene doesn't change anything either, that's the general sad idea that Nasu came up with for all the Lostbelts, as a way to combat the fact that it's hard to feel bad about any Servant "dying" in FGO shit. Now you can feel bad about a whole universe.

I'll preface this with saying I know very little of art. I think certain aspects, like his proportions and shading for example, are pretty bad. But, it's got a certain charm to it and I find the flaws endearing. The new stuff hes drawn post like 2010 has technically improved in a lot of regards but I can't say I really like it- but I also can't really pinpoint why exactly other than the fact that it's different. It's okay guys, really. Even Nasu will eventually get the urge to do something more, he can't really plan to stick to a shitty mobage about Servants until retirement. He's a chuuni at heart, imagining all of the ideas he still has in mind being limited in hardware, and all of his greatest works happening over a decade ago... it can't sit well with him. He'll get tired of it, and try out something greater!
Meanwhile, I'll keep studying Japanese so I can read the Remake the day it comes out. When it happens, I can share detailed early spoilers and differences from the original with you guys as I read along, as long as you don't copy paste my posts to GOfags.

To me, at least, Fate was a good franchise because it forces its writers to research and put care and respect into building their characters instead of "let's make character based on a currently trending anime archetype!"

Being based in researches also mean you can look up these characters' origin on Wikipedia and learn more about them. It's like having a free-built in extended universe with added educational value. By learning more about these characters, your bonds with them could deepens, but with how little shits current Fate give to accuracies, it seems to be a middle finger to someone who actually came for the mythological/historical characters.

On the narrative side, Fate on the whole was a franchise built upon being subversive, Shirou was your typical shounen hero whose ideals are shown as being foolish instead of having Deus ex Machina solving all of his problems for him.

Saber was the middle finger to the typical "stay in the kitchen" heroine of early 2000s. Apart from that despite being an eroge heroine, she wasn't particularly sexually exaggerated and you had to work quite hard to get to her sex scene, that was a treatment that treats the audience's relationship to a character meaningfully. Current Fate is full of "I am a huge boobed genderswapped hero who will abandon my life goals right now if you promise to fuck me".

Yet on the other hand, the one thing current Fate carried over from old Fate is its convoluted mechanics which often sounds overcomplicated for overcomplicated sake. It's made worse by how irrelevant it is to the grand scheme of the plot.

"First and Second Magic" is thrown around a lot, yet was never explained and at the same time you never really needed to know or care what it is to "enjoy" either the anime or the game. Many NPs and rules like Gae Bolg or the "older = stronger" rules are littered in, only to never really have any meaningful effects on the story, and many other rules like "no literary characters can be summoned" or "Hassan only" is quickly abandoned as soon as it became inconvenient.

Then there's contrivances like "historically recorded as male but is actually female", which was overused and meant little more than "we need more boobs and asses in the roster".

It's like the franchise is trying far too hard to sound smart, when it's utterly failing at the actual smart thing it should've strived for(accuracy), while at the same time insulting audiences who actually wanted smart philosophies and depths by shoving boobs and butts into your face.

Current Fate has little to distinguish itself from the other million battle waifu simulator app games apart from that it spawned from an older franchise.

Worst of all, is how big Fate had became as a franchise. Now no one can even make another anime containing Gilgamesh or Cu Chulainn without being compared or worse, bashed as a ripoff of Fate. In essence, Fate ruins what is supposed to be public domain.

The romance itself in the end was dumb and cobbled, but again if THAT was bad, are the current Fate Servants all whoring for Master's dick right off the bat any better?

FSN, for what I believed, first became successful because despite being an eroge, it puts its plot before it sex. Admittedly, most of its sex scenes are even massively underwhelming, that's why it's the emphasis on plot that differentiates it from its contemporaries.

If I'm the one who's trying to sound smart, tell me why First, Second, Third magic, the tons of flavor text rules, overly convoluted NPs like Gae Bolg or UBW or the 50 versions of Excalibur was necessary in the story when none of them never intended to be anything beyond "a powerful stab" and "a powerful beam".

Point is, Nasuverse, old and new, clogs itself down with too many unneccessary details and expositions that never came to fruition. The premise's basic core was "KING ARTHUR AND HERCULES FIGHT EACH OTHER WITH LASERS", and that was all it needed. The point is it failed to even deliver on that premise because the heroes are no longer the characters from historical myths and history but cheap knockoff of overused anime archetypes with a random mythical name tacked onto it.

And of course 100% accuracy would be difficult, considering even many actual historians don't know 100% about these historical and mythical figures, not to mention all the different retellings. And yes, many times being accurate, such having everyone being ultra macho with full beard, would make the story less charming, but point is current Fate is not even 50%, heck, 30% accurate, and it's not because the research was difficult but rather for utter lack of trying.

It's one thing to be unable to come up with original ideas, it's another to root your entire series in the richness of history, and all you managed to derived from it was lolis in thongs. Mythology and history are already filled with characters that is unique to the anime conventions, that could give your audience fresh experiences, yet let's screw all that because we still need the uninspired archetypes other animes had already done to death, right?

At this point, why make your character mythical/historical figures? And again, how does this differentiate Fate from cheaper franchises that ripped it off like Kamihime and Eiyuu Senki? My point is, current Fate is like a bad fanfiction of old Fate, as flawed as old Fate already was.

And I never said anything about 2hu general. General thread is generally considered cancer outside of /vg/ since they are cut-off from the rest of the board where its inhabitants like to preserve board culture, and it's not just /jp/. Idolfags is an issue since normally they don't belong in /jp/ but since TM is /jp/ related from the start, you don't have to be afraid of getting deleted if you make non-general TM threads.

Sakura is the most unpopular heroine from what I understand. Probably because of how her route is complete bullshit in how Nasu tries to make her appealing. I mean, I get what Nasu was trying to do when he was writing up her route, I mean on paper it sounds alright.

Even virgin-loving otakus would've liked a setup like this, wanting to save the girl is a classic plot that has existed(and worked) for centuries in literature. So what exactly went wrong for Sakura to be despised? How could such a cute kouhai with large breasts become the infamous "worm whore" who no one but rabid fans seem to like?

Given that this is the quality of the average non-general thread in /jp/, it's really not going to be a surprise that people don't feel like leaving this thread and heading off into the unexplored wilds.

Saber is basically the same breed of heroine as Shiki and Arcueid. I'm sure a lot of people have noticed, but the "main heroine" of Nasu's stories always follow a certain pattern.

In Kara no Kyoukai, Mikiya is mesmerized by Shiki at first sight. He's completely enamored with her from the beginning. The moment he meets her, it pretty much shuts down any potential with the other heroines completely.

In Tsukihime, once again, Shiki is completely taken with Arcueid from the moment he sees her. This has the effect of bleeding into the Ciel route; even though Ciel is supposed to be the main heroine, Shiki can't really stop thinking about Arcueid either. As a result, the "Good End" is basically a Tenchi romcom scenario. Because Arcueid tends to completely take over whenever she has a role, it becomes necessary to keep Shiki from meeting her in the Far Side routes.

Saber is especially bad about this, though. Fate really drives the point home that Shirou and Saber's meeting was "fated", hence the title of the route. Even in Unlimited Blade Works, which focuses more on Shirou, Archer and Rin, Saber still gets a decent chunk of focus, and while the nature of her relationship with Shirou is no longer romantic in nature and isn't even important to the plot, she's still someone that Shirou can't really stop thinking about. Hell, in Heaven's Feel, he has to seek out and erase all of his memories of her so that he can focus on saving Sakura. If he doesn't, he won't be able to live with the fact that he's killed her. In fact, if you notice, in both UBW and HF, there are points where Saber and Shirou are forcibly separated. It's as if the narrative is saying, "The relationship with the actual heroine of the route can't take off as long as she's here."

Ciel, Rin and Touko are effectively the same archetype. A magical superwoman who has all the answers the protagonist needs and can fulfill any role that's required of them at any given time. The story literally would not be able to move forward without these characters.

Fujino, Kohaku and Sakura are obviously similar types, but Sakura also has a bit of Akiha in her as well. Akiha fits the same mold as Fujino and Sakura in that they're the heroines who typically have the lowest chance of getting together with the protagonist. In order for Sakura's route to kick off, the entire Grail War has to take a completely sharp and abrupt turn, catalyzed by something that would normally have a low chance of ever occurring, forcing Shirou to devote all his attention to her. Akiha is similar, albeit not as extreme; in all the other routes, Shiki only sees Akiha as his sister and never develops any feelings for her. He's almost unable. This is a big thing for me. Most of the heroes don't even look like they should. Even disregarding genderswaps. They have straight up anime or even Japanese-centered designs-despite not being Japanese (MERLIN), when their own original designs would have been better.

Karna, Wu, Heracles, Cu, Gilgamesh, Nitocris, etc. All who had their own great designs that didn't need to be animefied, and ended up looking trash as a result. It's hit and miss. I do like some stuff and hate another. The idea of the main story is good as the important main characters, but some execution needs work.

The events are also hit or miss. For example, I was looking forward the KnK one and it wasn't all that good, sure was funny and was nice to see Shiki again but Nasu could have done much more than a comedy (with the concept of Servants grudges which was interesting). Apocrypha event was one I dreaded because of Sieg but, against my prejudice, it's actually... ok and Sieg has come a long way. If anything FGO allows some characters who weren't well handled to get second chances.

If you skip Ciel's route you'll miss out on a lot of fairly important character development and exposition, not only for Ciel, but also for Roa and Shiki, not only Tohno but Nanaya too. I'd even argue that Arc gets more interesting character development on Ciel's route than her own. That being said none of those characters (besides Shiki) really matter on the Far Side, so it's not like you won't understand what's going on if you skip it, but I've always considered Ciel's route to just straight up be a better version of Arc's route once you get to the point they stop overlapping, even if you like Arc more than Ciel.

Then adapt the Far Side Arc in omnibus format, a few episodes each. Add Red Demon God story from Kagetsu Tohya betweeen Akiha and Hisui routes. Eclipse at the end of Kohaku's route.
