Translation:
I am Ryuukishi07 of 07th Expansion.

Happy New Year.
Thank you for your e-mail.

I did not think that our "Umineko no Naku Koro ni" would be played even by all of you in foreign countries, and I am very surprised.
Also, I am deeply moved by the passion which drove you to translate a tale that long into English.

Thank you for loving "Umineko no Naku Koro ni" so much!

If by your English translation patch, English-speaking people can also enjoy this work, it would make me very pleased.

I believe I will warmly watch over your actions hereafter.
And I would appreciate it if you would continue to enjoy "Umineko no Naku Koro ni".
This is a bit of a digression.
I have known of your website, “THE WITCH HUNT”, for a short while.

I knew that you were carrying out an enthusiastic translation, and was very delighted.

>> No.1880193

Actually, in the new work that was only recently published, "Umineko no Naku Koro ni EP4 Alliance of the Golden Witch", there is a scene where a cultured college professor challenging the Legend of the Rokkenjima Witch calls himself a "Witch Hunter".

We borrowed this name out of respect for the name of your website, “THE WITCH HUNT”.

Please, I would appreciate it if you would tell this to everyone involved with your website.
Eastern and Western world-views mix together,

"Umineko no Naku Koro ni"

From the position as the writer, I also wish to enjoy it with everyone as I carry out my writing in the future.

Thank you very much for this e-mail.
I will try even harder so that I can continue to deliver this work to all of you!

The Higurashi anime just summed things up while keeping a steady flow. It's not really the anime's fault. But i'll admit im one of those people that got into Higurashi BECAUSE of the anime's first story arc. Although because of watching the anime I can't bring myself to go through the Visual Novels.

Surprisingly though Umineko keeps up what I liked about the first part of Higurashi and further adds on to it. I honestly have to wonder how it will be adapted into an anime as most of its more interesting parts are Battlers/Other characters long thinking processes.

>> No.1886620

>>1886608
I found Higurashi to be dull. All it was, at least up to the point where I stopped watching, was "someone goes insane and kills people. Reset and repeat". A good mystery story gives something to work with so that by the time the big reveal comes around you should already have it figured out, or at least be hitting yourself for having not done so. Higurashi was just "unexplained violence lol".

The anime leaves out a lot of clues and details but there's still quite a bit. There's enough to where you should have a good idea what's going on by the end of season one. If you're totally clueless then you missed all the clues and hints. I really don't see how you could think it's random violence unless you skipped the parts where they were talking.

Okay, here's my impressions (going from memory):

First arc: Introduction to characters. Everyone is subtly creepy. Then not quite so subtly. Men in white van? BAD END.

Second arc: Demons? Shion dies but comes back somehow? BAD END.

Third arc: Satoko's uncle is an asshole. Everyone is still creepy. This is getting repetitive.

Fourth arc: Fuck it.

First arc you should already be questioning if what Keiichi saw was real. It was obvious that it was out of his mind at the end. Sane people don't claw their throughts out.

Second arc you should've been wondering if that was really Shion. Mion and Shion look alike. You learn a lot of about Watanagashi and in this arc and why Takano and Tomitake could be cursed. You should also be wondering if Rena really is evil like she was portrayed in the first arc.

Third arc probably has the biggest clue but it's kind of hidden. Even if you miss it, it's still obvious that Takano is suspicious as hell.

There's several more little clues and details but it'd be a pain to list them all.

>> No.1886665

The people in the white van are a very important part of the series but you don't learn the truth about them till way later. Until then it only gives you the occasional hint about them. The fourth arc goes more indepth with them.

The big problem with Higurashi anime was, season 1 wasn't done right. DEEN tried to cram 6 arcs into 1 season. As a result, the main theme of each arc was lost and replaced with wtf killer lolis.

I'm reading the Onikakushi-hen novel translation right now and it is really good.

Now DEEN has learned their lesson (seeing how they did the last 2 arcs) so I expect they can pull off Umineko gracefully.

Frankly it's impossible to understand Higurashi by the anime.

When you finish reading Watanagashi-hen and Tatarigoroshi-hen of the game or manga, you will realise what Higurahshi's "core" is.
Higurashi is very sad and touching story with some hair-raising scenes. And it sometimes becomes violent.
But anime reversed that priority.

too complicated for your troll?

First arc: some evidences that something is wrong pas the "olol 2 gals going all batshit".

Second arc: curse unveiled. Why Takano and Tommy got killed. Also another side of Rena which question her performance in first arc.

Third arc: shows pretty well that keiichi goes all paranoid. Mion confirms that the Sonozaki are not behind the crimes, yet helped Keiichi (wonder how teppei's corpse was moved?)
And finally, what happens to Rika and the huge aftermath

Fourth arc: a gigantic clue concerning the men of the white van, Rika and some stuff behind the gas incident.

Do you need us to spell everything for you or what? honestly, it looks like it would be better if a moron like you stop right there, but I rather rage at your ridiculous inability to pick clues and claiming "lolz, only violence, no clues, boring".

But Onikakushi-hen has been regarded as most well-done animated arc by fans.

Watanagashi was... well "okay", though they certainly rushed through the whole deal too early.

The real atrocious adaptations were Tatarigoroshi and Tsumihoroboshi (and of course, the middle and end of meakashi ;_;)
Tatari was probably the biggest straw, as the chapter is barely recognizable from the themes originally used.

I was terribly disapppointed by Tatarigoroshi-hen and Meakashi-hen anime adaptation when I listened to the Drama CD.

I didn't even rage at Teppei during the Tatarigoroshi-hen arc but wanted to kill him myself when I heard it from the drama cd (would've too if I played the game). They managed to portray that feeling when K1 almost went nuts on Minagoroshi-hen anime regarding Satoko.

Anyway, I just hope they do Umineko properly this time. The four episodes can be distributed into 24-26 episodes if they do it right. Even the tea parties will make it through.
