I am trying to play 彼女が異種族だった場合 ～クールな先輩ダークエルフとの甘やかし同棲日誌～ but the issue is that the standing portraits noticeably lag when they first appear or change. The voice and text will load and then a second or half-second later the character sprite will. The game appears to use YU-RIS but I've never had a similar problem with any other game of the same engine (eg clockup or nomad) other than a previous title of this same company which I tested and saw that I had the same lag problem with it as well, and neither have I had issues with e-mote or whatever else. I've tried restarts and reinstalls and such but those haven't helped. I did ask in another thread but no one else appeared to have the same problem.

Finished Nene's route in Sanoba Witch. That was fun. Although the ichaicha was a bit excessive and sometimes halted the sense of progress, the plot itself was charming and it was really satisfying and heartwarming to see Nene's efforts and growth as a character pay off in the pre-credits scene.

Are any of the other heroine routes worth doing? I'm definitely doing Meguru's because I like her a lot, but I can consider doing the other girls too if their routes are worth it.

Just because it's a big "how to date a girl" manual full of awkwardness on both ends doesn't make it bad. I wouldn't want it all the time, but it's fine once. In fact, this was really well done.
That said, it's not what you'd expect after common, that's for sure. No matter how much the writer actually explains why it is as it is, I can understand why you'd not be a fan. But I felt given that it made sense, ditching her the moment she felt less fun than I thought at first would be weird too. I usually hate this "change" from common to route like it happens for her, but it tends to not be explained and it just happens. That's what makes it so shit.

Noratoto 2 without 1 is nonsense. 1 has the mainstory, which is Patricia's route. Common is pretty much part of her route, so the other routes are automatically weird as it doesn't make a lot of sense for Patricia to not be the heroine. The reason why they pretty much suck is something else though. Noratoto 2 also branches off this common route, so it's the same in that regard. Route quality is hit and miss. Still salty about the Nobuchina route.

That said, these two games don't share any content. The "sequel" is just an alternate story that branches off the Noratoto 1 common route. You can see that as a few events of that are mentioned in it and Pato, her sisters and so on are already all there. Not like this is a plot heavy game or anything, but not knowing the first game will feel weird. Very weird.

Depends on what you want. There's separation sometimes when they were younger and fairly normal stuff. Don't know if Noratoto will even be that satisfying for that stuff.

That said, Fake Azure Arcology has a major childhoodfriend vs. the new hot blonde thing going on and it's quite nice. As an anime the childhoodfriend would probably lose that one (duh?), but given that it's a VN you can obviously choose. Not exactly a moege though and in my opinion the highlight is the blonde, but I'm not a huge childhoodfriend heroine friend or anything.

Both Aqua and Sakusaki from Sorahane feature major heroines being childhoodfriends. As in, the main heroines as far as I remember. Both aren't moege though and in this case that implies: You don't just read one route.

Tsuyokiss has more than one. Personally I quite enjoyed the girl's route that was added in the later release. Something happened that made her and the protag really not like each other anymore. It's not true childhoodfriend, as they technically got to meet each other in middle school, but a proper loli-ish childhoodfriend is around as well, though her route is a bit weaker if you ask me.

Picture related is a childhoodfriend with a typical separation plot. (in this case, she moved away at some point) I quite enjoyed this one. It's a pretty short moege which was a big part of why it wasn't that well received. Features one of the best if not the absolute best bro you'll ever get to have in a moege though.


There are also a bunch of games completely based around reuniting with childhoodfriends. Natsu no Iro no Nostalgia for example. This month also had a few games like that.

Decided to play through しずくのおと because some anon mentioned it in last thread and I felt some short doujin title would be a welcome change of pace.

I guess I expected something more from the plot and twists other than the usual kind of ghost stuff powered by negative emotions of spirits handwaving everything as required. Aside from that the bigger main issue was all the routes roughly going through the same developments: while the later ones do reveal some new stuff as well the revelations didn't feel like something that warranted having entire routes for themselves, roughly the same events still happen but for slightly different reasons, even right down to the endings where it's always Mari saving the day and saying her goodbyes with Mayumi so when a roughly similar thing happens a third time it kind of loses its emotional oomph. I think the first route should've been much stingier with its revelations and maybe had different plot developments. Also the worst cocktease was the second playthrough starting with a new prologue from Sayo's perspective because it falsely made me expect a full blown protagonist switch.

As another general complaint the game loses much of its horror edge after a certain point in the first route, after that it's mostly just characters explaining shit then "stuff" happens. I liked the general setup regarding the rules of the aquarium with rooms changing when all people leave it and I think it could've been used longer for some interesting trickery and twists especially with the game's pause menu even coming with a map of the place, but the whole deal gets dropped on subsequent routes.

However overall I'd say I got my time's worth out of it. While some stuff felt unnecessary it was short enough to not feel overly repetitive and the game in general is back-to-back plot with no other kind of padding in between, and there's lots of bad ends so that aspect also manages to keep things tense for most of the time.

My favorite aspect was probably the really well done setting and atmosphere. The plot was alright, but probably not THAT important to me. Though I'm glad it wasn't just the first two routes, which was everything the game had at first as far as I know, that's for sure. Luckily I only ever played the extended version.

Horror getting less is also pretty normal. Horror is usually caused by not knowing what's going on. Once you start to get to know, it's getting automatically less creepy. Combine that with a lot of games wanting to do story later on and this gets even more amplified. There are a few games that don't really fall into that and have creepy enough endings and whatnot as well, but that's rare. You usually need a lot of screwed up things, including major characters. Like Tokihate has. That can be disturbing even pretty late.


Honestly though, games like Shizuku no Oto are just rare in general, and I like atmospheric horror like that.

Kieta Sekai has a pretty interesting story. The visuals are fairly nice, the music and atmosphere as well. You got mystery with a little spooky here and there and some minor denpa to round it off. I was already learning Japanese for VN's in general but it was in Eustia where I first applied what I learned (though with the help of text hooker and parser for words I didn't know). Yui and Rea routes are good, Asuka and Kasuri routes are just ok, didn't like Ema route but it contributed somehow into adding more hurt while finally reading Rikako route, which is the best story in the game in terms of making me cry. Rikako is just the most deserving heroine, that in hindsight, it felt regretful to have picked the others at the expense of her suffering without MC knowing.

at least now I know why EGS loves this. but I'll hold on to reading other Maruto Fumiaki titles for now for the sake of variety.

Because someone else might. There are probably plenty of hidden gems out there waiting to be discovered, and you never know what will turn out to have historical value in the future. Why not try to preserve as much as we can?

So, Kieta Sekai. I'm sure there's some not even bad story lying under all of it, but I feel that EGS is way to nice to things like awful writing. Let me just talk about it for a little, ignoring the story itself.

You'll get to see the first issues pretty quickly. Events flow really awkwardly into another. Think of something like this: Characters get chased, enemies are pretty much right behind and visible. Someone stumbles. Then they start to lament what they should do now. For one minute! Normally they'd be done for already, but alas. This kind of style happens all the time. The writing cares little about the surrounding things. Things don't gear well into another. Sometimes you also just have deus ex machina "twists", so you reach the wished for conclusion. It's weird.

Then there are the "routes". You can play 4 in any order, however only 2 of those feature girls that make sense to be heroines, based on the first arc. And only one of these feels kinda relevant enough. And kinda not. Because ultimately they all fail because of insane rushing. The game is just around 1mb, which is totally fine in my book. But that means these routes are like 150-200kb. Guess what, you can't have good romance, charage-esque stuff AND try to not forget about the plot all at the same time when you have barely 3 hours for a "route". It also doesn't help that you know from the very beginning how each of these will end (the game doesn't exactly make that a secret..), making the final part of them extremely predictable and boring, while it acts like it's an epic climax. It's also always literally the same style, which doesn't help.
Honestly, plot-wise I think they'd been better of not doing any romance here and/or focus on the two girls that feel like main heroines from the first arc with a less obviously designed ending condition to not make any climax the most boring and unimportant thing ever. But whatsoever.

Once you are finally past all of that mess and somehow made it to the final arc, guess what'll great you. Bet you'd not see a fucking recap coming. Yep. A recap. Because this was such a long and epic journey. I guess in a way it was, because they had ending credits for each arc before. UNSKIPPABLE MIND YOU! Someone didn't understand what ENDING credits are supposed to be. They are for the ENDING. God dammit.
So, once you are past the recap and preparation for what's to come, you finally get plot. Well, after the obligatory common route hot spring visit. Wait. Is this the final route, or..? ...........
I already had a hard time caring about the plot with all of that going on, but in the end it was just too much. This game has a lot of things going on. Tons of characters, too, which you barely get to know because what little time the game has, it rather spends at hot springs and random stuff. But still not enough to make, for example, the romance work. Nah. That's also below minimum. Everything is. Still introducing new people at the end, throwing twists at you and so on is all nice, but not with this kind of awful presentation where literally everything is littered with holes already anyway. Somehow this game also ended up going full random chuuni territory. With no art to back it up. Great. Fantastic.


What a mess. Messy engine with unskippable effects and production issues included. Crashed once in the option menu for me, too.

Finished Fatal Twelve. Production values were decent, but that’s about as much good as I can say about this battle royale game. No tension, no real battles of wits, lack of good twists, not even the character drama that’s the main focus really manages to deliver anything new either. Wouldn’t call it outright bad, just horribly bland.

My biggest beef was the protagonist Rinka being the biggest お人好し of all time and I think much of the game’s blandness stems from that: in concrete terms most often she just ends up spending time with her supposed enemies of the chapter and getting to know them for the eventual drama where they’re conveniently eliminated by someone more ruthless, except in cases where the opponents specifically ask Rinka to put them out of their misery. Characters just giving up happens all the time in this game. Even when the protagonist's indecisiveness ends up backfiring hard and you’d normally expect it to be a good turning point for some major character development especially because we’re talking about a high stakes genre like battle royale, it’s just conveniently fixed in the same fucking chapter. Lesson of the day learned without any price, and not even the lesson itself makes her behave noticeably any different.

Because the protagonist spends most of her time doing fuck all it means the game uses a lot of scenes from other characters’ perspectives, but even their ordeals don’t really manage to get very hectic and the elimination phases of each week never really surprise because who's going to die is clearly told beforehand or some character previously mentioned something like "I know that one is going to betray me so I made preparations". Not to mention the big fishes who are supposed to be the actual main threats that so far have made other players drop like flies also decide to team up in times of need to eliminate a common threat, and later even fucking decide to up and die just because they ended up liking the main characters and want them to get their happy ending. It feels like everyone revolves around the protagonist and her friends, in a really bad way.

The last chapter was also pretty weak. It didn't feel like the characters were approaching the goal on their own merits, because pretty much every single relevant plot stuff is conveniently dropped on them at the end without any connection to their own or the other characters' ordeals. Like literally a character just happened to know something all along and additionally never previously mentioned background explaining item just ends up in the protagonist’s possession by accident. If that was not enough, the last piece of the puzzle, even when the protagonist is *specifically* told she has to figure out the rest herself, is delivered by more magic and quite literally just hanging out with a person who knows the answer and appeared for the sole purpose of giving the answer.

Aside from those complaints, I think there was also a huge missed opportunity in the basic set-up because the game didn’t really use the early established gimmick of world returning closer to original timeline every time someone is eliminated as much as I had hoped, especially considering there’s some really colorful people of various nationalities, some of who are also big power players as well so you’d reckon the world reversing closer to “original” timeline after each elimination could’ve been used for some really major stuff. Only notable use of it is erasing the protagonist's mistake earlier on. The game could’ve also somehow utilized that, the characters and their stories to gradually deliver the last chapter’s revelations rather than as one convenient chunk the protagonist is just given at the end simply because she’s she.

Funny how I read like 2 hours of it, and could kinda guess most of your complaints from that. The whole structure of the game felt convoluted and things way too arbitrary. Also a battle royale where everyone is dead from the beginning was a terrible idea from the very start as well. No wonder things will be not exactly very exciting. You have literally nothing to lose. At worst you "don't win", which is perhaps kinda eh, but if what is told at the beginning is to be believed, that'd be the way the world normally should work anyway. Hand in hand with that goes that the fate of the participants is about as interesting as the life stories of dead people you never knew. I'm not a battle royale fan, but I'm pretty sure that's not how they are supposed to be.

I can't help but think that the concept was just shit to the point, it would've been hard to turn it into something good, but in a way that's also depending on your viewpoint. It seemed liked enough on /u/. Which shouldn't be only because of some /u/ content or whatever.

Thats pretty much what got me interested as well. I quite enjoyed the anime adaption for mashiro iro symphony for what it was. They did a stellar job with the OST, having a full orchestra remake some of the original songs from the game. I always pull it up time and time again because I loved it so much. I still need to find the time to play through the routes in the psp version..
