18717200 No.18717200 [Reply] [Original]

A thread for the VN announcements at Anime Boston and Sakura Con this weekend. Expectations are likely low, but it will begin the 2018 convention announcements.

The panels are as follows

MangaGamer
Anime Boston - Friday 9:30PM

Sekai Project
Anime Boston - Friday 2:30PM
SakuraCon - Saturday 7:00PM

MG has 3 announcements, 1 from a new partner, while Sekai hasn't given any indication of what announcements they'll have (if any).

>> No.18717211

Well we know one new partner Mangagamer has is Tenneouji since they've made it obvious they have Luckydog1. They could be announcing that (the hint for this was "Lucky").

They'll probably announce the "Voices" title here too. Assumed to be the updated Kindred Spirits which added voice acting and some other content.

Last one could be anything. Wouldn't surprise me if its the "Otome" hint. Probably a Kalmia8 title.

>> No.18719900

>>18718433
Don't expect a Kalma8 title before AX or Otakon. They tend to save their major otome and BL announcements for the bigger conventions.

>> No.18719907

>>18717668
You're using the word fujoshi wrong. It only refers to women who are into BL.

>> No.18719921

What was up with someone thinking the otome hint could be a next Otoboku game? Otome means female MC with mostly male love inerests, MG even uses this definition of the genre in their licensing survey. Obviously a game with a male MC and female love interests doesn't qualify.

>> No.18719936

>>18719907
Watamote has the MC as a fujoshi who's fawning over male seiyuu who do ASMR and otome drama cd.

>> No.18719950

>>18719936
Is the word fujoshi ever used in the series itself? And Tomoko has many weird fetishes, so she's also probably a fujo.

But fujo has always meant women into BL. Only the western fandom tried to apply it to all things women like.I wouldn't be surprised if such a mistake came from the Watamote translators misusing the word.

>> No.18720316

Sekai Project is listed as an Industry Partner for Anime Central, so there is a better shot of getting a meaningful announcement from them there than this weekend.

Possible announcements if the titles they teased are going to be announced at Anime Boston.

>voices
Last time they had a clue like this it was for Kindred Spirits drama CD. My bet is for the fully voiced version of Kindred Spirits that came out not too long ago.

>language
Could be Kotonoha Amrilato or anything with dual language.

>Steam
Most likely something from the Liarsoft's steampunk series.

>otome
My guess is Ohime-sama datte XXX Shitai!! -Horny magical princess- from Kalmia8, who MG are already partnered with.

>yuri
Most likely a new A Kiss for the Petals title.

>Sorcery Jokers
Maybe another title from 3rdEye.

>Lucky
Luckydog1

>Sakura
Sakura no Mori Dreams seems the most likely, which means MG got the English localization rights, and not Hikari Field who got the Chinese rights. People who have been asking Hikari Field for an English version could have been wasting their time.

Doubt it, since MC gets turned into a loli and that's a much more niche type of otome. Plus, Steam removed Maidens of Michael, so a loli being pursued by guys won't stick around either.

The somewhat strong otome title announcement (at least based on fan reaction) is interesting to me. It arguably means one of two things.

1. Otome game players are as a relatively minor audience that only deserve a smaller convention slot, maybe in comparison to BL players or something.

2. They have a really notable otome license they are saving for either Anime Expo or Otakon. Or at least a second otome they expect to sell more because it's 18+.

In the case of Riddle Star, it's obvious that they have a more notable moege they are saving up, but that might not be the case with Steam Prison.

Was it some closed-door panel that only a few were allowed in or something? Even if they will only officially announce it on Sakuracon, it is strange that 0 people leaked it.

We've had the same issue even at some bigger conventions before. Unless there is someone who goes with the intent to actively tweet out announcements from the panel, then they often will go unnoticed especially if they aren't a huge deal.

The main issue is that people are over thinking things. They are just focusing on other things, they have a lot of stuff ready for release.

If that was the case then wouldn't there be an official clarification to clear up the matter? It sitting in some kind of limbo with no news hurts the image of it to your average customer. Leaving it to rumours and unofficial off the record shit is just going to bite them at some point if they aren't careful.

This, but adding to it, there will be a point where people who were interested no longer care, or forget about it. If it hasn't happened already anyways. Especially with there not being official news on it.

While true, MG's titles being better than Sekai's titles in the smaller conventions (especially if you happen to be an otome fan) could possibly mean that MG has better titles to announce in general for the bigger conventions. The moege seems like something they would normally save for Anime Central while the otome game would be something saved for Anime Expo/Otakon for the female demographic pandering title.

>could possibly mean that MG has better titles to announce in general for the bigger conventions

Luckydog1 seems to be their big AX announcement for the female audience and that has a built in fanbase already. It tends to top popularity polls in Japan and has become a full franchise.

All its missing is an anime which seems very likely to happen now. The franchise has been expanding rapidly the past few years in Japan (Mobile port, Manga, All ages port, multiple fandisks, a stage show and an upcoming expansion).

I've seen arguments over whether it's overly localized with excessive swearing and slang or a good representation of the casual tone that takes reasonable liberties in order to deliver jokes. So depends on how much you enjoy localized banter it seems.
If nothing else, the fact that the TL reception isn't almost unanimously negative on already implies it's better than Chrono Clock.
