i started learning japanese 4 months ago and learned all of the hiragana using various soruces. just as i was starting to practice katakana i thought i should practice more with hiragana and pirated all volumes of yotsubato. after which i realised that i might not be as good as i thought. firstly the font makes it really difficult to recognise some letters and it takes me a couple of seconds to read each word, after which i can mostly understand what's being said, thanks to my huge weeaboo background. what i want to know is, if i want to get better at reading, should i keep practicing with the yotsubato manga, or are there other sources that use cleaner fonts and more effective methods to help me read hiragana faster.

Everything is sutainable, it only depends on how much time you have on your hands and how diligent you are. I doubt that anyone can mine immensive ammount of words (like 70+ a day) without reading a shitton. Even I mine around 30 new words in english for an hour of reading "shogun" and my english is far worse than my japanese is.

Is there a way to get through anki easier? I have no problem learning the grammar at all, in fact, I even have fun doing it, because its pretty rewarding even if its only simple sentences like "i did something", but anki is just hard to get through because its pretty boring and dry I guess. I'm currently at about 1100 words, and I dont think I can keep this up for the full 6k if I can't find a method to make this easier.

Not that anon, but I have about this much in my anki deck too and I don't regret it at the slightest. I had read more than 25 books\vns in japanese and I can read fluently most of stuff nowadays but it seems that I can't cope with some cultural differences hence I don't enjoy reading in japanese nearly as much as I do in my native language. I began studying english again recently and it's already more pleasing experience in many aspects.

I run a python script that auto cuts all but 3 definitions. If some are wildly different I'll either ignore them or push them up so they're one of the three chosen depending on how relevant/useful I think that definition will be.
