Could someone explain me what's so wonderful about this series? Most of the fanart looked clever and funny, but the show, despite all my expectations, happened to be boring and just silly even though there were a lot of cute little girls and the slice-of-life genre was my favourite.

You have to look beyond the boring parts, you have to find your enjoyment. I thought it was going to be real heavy and somewhat of a stiff feeling anime but it turned out better than I thought.

It's an acquired taste. I think most people have trouble getting into at first, but as you get farther into the series and get to know the characters better, you begin to share their concerns, even if it was something previously boring like Yumi fretting over which bonbons to give to Sachiko. Like most slice-of-life shows, it's mostly just waiting for the show's little world to grow on you, at which point you're addicted.

I first thought about watching it when I used to browse /u/ all the time, but I resisted for a long time because I figured it would just be boring. Finally watched it after Lucky Star had that episode with Marimite references, and ended up enjoying it a lot.

Since I finished watching Utawarerumono 2 summers ago, I haven't even watched any anime, just been waiting and waiting for Marimite Season 4 (and the Utawarerumono OVA's)

I must confess that I loved the first episode of Marimite. Not because of the lesbian under-, over- and straight-fucking-through-tones, but for the sense of wonder in it - the ethereal, dreamlike visuals and the bizarre, almost ominous conviction with which the girls regarded their weird, quasi-occult rituals. It's almost as if you took your normal "you must get the popular girl to like you" highschool lesbian soap drama - and then secretly told all the main characters that they will be _burned at a stake if they fail._ Walking slowly isn't just preferred here, it's a matter of life and death.

well it wasn't the fact that he was gay that was the problem, it was that he wanted to go ahead and get married but then have his own gay lover while Sachiko had to find some guy to get her pregnant so people would believe the marriage had been consummated.

Obviously this made Sachiko flip out, since he basically wanted to have the same situation as her father's and grandfather's marriages, except even worse since he was going to make her find some other guy even if she didn't want to.

Of course the anime doesn't touch on most of this, hell, it doesn't even explicitly tell you that he's gay.
