I would portray the world of Gensokyo as a crime ridden land, where the only thing that can be trusted is Touhou's honor. Marisa and Reimu try and keep law and order in the land of Gensokyo but noone respects them. Maybe humans aren't respected in the land of Gensokyo...but Danmaku is.

Fuck you. Just because you grew up watching ronery harem animu and magical girl series does not make your taste any less shittier. There are two types of animu fans. Those that grew up with shonen shit, and those that grew up with weeaboo magical girl/slice of life shit.

The Touhou animu was 90% slice of life and 10% magical girl. The aforementioned genres had a chance to prove themselves and they failed miserably. Everyone agreed that the Touhou animu was a monumental failure. Maybe if it had some lv 4 Super Saiyan Goku hax it wouldn't have sucked so badly.

Not to say that I dislike anything with fighting though; Giant Robo OAV is still a masterpiece. But I still love my my Simoun/Marimite/Touhou as well.

I would have just used some replays of someone playing the games flawlessly on lunatic mode. Add some voice acting so you don't gotta read the cuts. That would be perfect. Pew pew pew!

Well, since you asked for my opinion....

...It would have instead have been a semi-realistic portrayal of what life would have been like in Feudal-era Japan with monsters, gods, undead, and magicians roaming about. The ever-present sense of paranoia and subtle fear would be there, culminating in epic Danmaku duels whenever these powerful beings emerge to fight after the heroine has finished slaying hordes of underlings like wheat before a scythe.

The relationships between characters would be heavily present, and a large part of the downtime would be committed to the viewer learning of Alice's hermetic, unbalanced nature through her interactions with others, politics between the youkai nobles and sometimes with the Lunarian Empress. There would, of course, be graphic if brief sexuality, subtle BDSM undertones, and such.

The first big problem of the Touhou anime was that it tried to emulate a plot you might find in one of its said games and failed to deliver this mood in a single episode. Oh, yes, it had all the trappings, but none of the heart. This leads to the second biggest problme with the Touhou anime: it tried to emulate a plot you might find in one of its said games.

/a/ and /jp/ individually came to the same conclusion: they either had to extend the interaction from one of the existing games, or drop the idea entirely.

Before we can even start: the OP delivers, for what it is worth, the kind of feeling Maikaze is going for, but it does not feel like the kind of emotions upon which Touhou normally hinges. The opening feels more like Kanon's anime or Air's anime.

I don't want to say the characters are malformed. I'll call them redesigned. Yes, redesigned. The redesigns, however, have been a bit too diluted, both in general appearance and in emotional delivery. Having said that, I felt that only Reimu seemed Reimu-ish, based both on fanon doujinshi and canon material. Mostly towards the beginning. Everyone else acted far too bizarre, offset only by how reserved Marisa acted (also bizarre). Aya ... okay, maybe somewhat Aya-ish, but still childish.

The best part was the fight scene in Viole. Except for the cheesy magic girl incantations - though I do admit there seems no way of doing this without being cheesy - that's similar to how I'd imagine an implemented 3D version of the Patchouli fight might go.

The best part of the whole ordeal was the ridiculous amount of sunlight in SDM. And Remilia being awake during the day.

Touhou is/has and always will be a shonen fighting game. Touhou is a game about girls with weapons who fight against each other. Most of the times in Touhou the characters don't even talk before going into combat.
