The implication of the WaHH before this month's was that Reimu was understanding how to make small incremental gains and profits by listening to Aunn and doing honest work, but that there was some kind of external force driving her to give up. I believe the phrase said something like the shrine had a will of its own to remain poor. I thought the implication was that the Yorigamis were causing it, and now they're out of the way.

I think it's probably just more whether Reimu profiting or failing is more funny for the story being told at the time.

More interestingly has anyone noticed Larva is unusually intelligent for an fairy? Frighteningly so?

She already showed hints of it when she was introduced in HSiFS, although it seemed like she was another mindless fairy. It also seemed like Larva was the one subtly pushing Cirno in the right direction to take out Okina in the endings. Then there was the revelation by Okina herself Larva might actually be the remnants of Tokoyami her mortal enemy.

And now with these last two chapters I can't help but feel like Larva has been humouring the other fairies and has a lot more common sense and insightfulness anyway.

Eternity is the remnants of Tokoyo no kami confirmed. Will be interesting to see where this goes, because her smarts + clownpiece is powerful. I agree with others that GFW2 is likely down the road, ZUN likes his fairies way too much and all their designs are consistently good.

ZUN has a very specific way he likes to do things for the mainline games which is why if anything this could potentially lead into GFW2 in the future seeing as how the first GFW was tied into the manga as well. I wonder how intelligent she really is. She seemed to have books in her house, implying she can read, which itself was once notable for fairies. Cirno and the three light fairies are capable of reading, writing, and apparently controlling themselves. Clownpiece, seems to lack impulse control but can read at least simple Japanese AND read/write in English (Or at least is able to read and recreate Hecatia's shirt)

Larva though, she seems more in control than anyone in addition to being able to read as mentioned. However, this doesn't really mean she's intelligent beyond that. Even if she was worshiped and gained god powers, it doesn't necessarily make her intelligent. Also there's not that much difference between a fairy and a god anyway according to this. It might not actually be control either. Luna and Star seem kind of calm sometimes and Larva did randomly attack the protagonists because she was high on life(force). All in all she seems smart, but then all the main fairies seem a bit too intelligent nowadays. Even running stalls and keeping track of money, the same type of being that can barely handle keeping their own clothes clean at the scarlet mansion.

I get the feeling if Lily showed up anywhere near regularly, she'd have reasonably intelligent dialogue. Although people have been able to reasonably interact with her according to material, so maybe all named fairies are more intelligent than average?

Lets be honest, ZUN making Hirasaka draw anything other than loli's would be pretty difficult and he's probably aware of that. ZUN was probably more strict with Okina in WaHH because it was a formal appearance and the focus was specifically on her. The contrast between the style of the two manga (and FS for that matter) is probably a very intentional thing because ZUN wants there too be various interpretations of the characters (both personality and design wise).

About the only thing we know about Lily White is hardly anyone knows what she actually is she is practically a Gensokyan urban myth amongst everyone.

The only person ever acknowledged to actually know who Lily White is was Sunny to the point she was absolutely terrified upong the mention of her name. Going as far as warning the other 2 of the Light Fairies to never cross Lily. This is actually repeated by Akyuu as well in PMiSS that Lily White isn't all that she seems and repeated a similar warning.

Shiki didn't say that, she said even nature and immaterial natural concepts can die(and thus so can fairies) and that Cirno, due to her attitude and actions, might get herself into such a mess that even her nature based immortality would fail her. e.g. someone like Narumi who said she'd normally have been able to render Cirno powerless, since she's made of life force(actually by that example, Cirno was becoming something that was even less able to be killed, depending on whether being rendered powerless would have made her able to be killed permanently.)

You're exaggerating, or rather you're misinterpreting Akyuu somehow. Akyuu just warns people to not mess with Lily while she's announcing spring because she's fairly strong at these times and doesn't like being messed with. In fact Akyuu is pretty kind in her assessment of her despite seemingly hating fairies. She refers to Lily White as a fairy who doesn't attack humans much and is a good omen.

That said Sunny is indeed freaked out about her, but she also only ultimately says "don't mess with her during the announcing of spring". Sunny's weak as shit so I imagine she did one day, got blown the fuck out, and thus traumatized.

lily is not that powerful. you fight her in game all the time. you fight her in HSIFS at her full power, fairies going crazy and she's in the middle of spring.

Compared to the sunny milk? Yes she is much much stronger, but that means little considering how weak they are.

Lily and Sunny should fight one day in a game. Lily was still a midboss in GFW to the three fairies being bosses, even though all three of them together aren't anywhere near as strong as Cirno, so they're probably all like midbosses themselves. HSiFS, it was the first time Lily had a spell card too, so either she doesn't like using them or she wasn't strong enough to until then, whereas Sunny as least has a few.
