I find it better to line ahead if you're using tank + support. From what I've seen the greatest threat of taiha comes from the closing torpedo and not the shelling phase (when sub tank is eating shots), so it's better to cripple them before closing torpedo. I honestly lost count. Spent around 50k fuel or so over a few days on the final kill alone. Some of that was due to experimenting with different combinations and compositions: 0 or 1 or 2 BBs, sub vs. no sub, diamond vs. vanguard on air raids. It all didn't seem to make much of a difference. I eventually just settled back on the one I used for the first part: 1BB, sub tank, vanguard all nodes.

At Kai level, Gamby has 47ASW. That means with 2x9ASW planes she can OASW. So now you can send her to E-1 and leave Taiyou for a map that might need her, like if there's multiple transport combined fleet maps and you want Zuihou in the harder one of those.

Ok. I think this is not a coincidence anymore. I used the same route support for both E4 and E6. On E4, it can usually kill 1 or 2 ships, seldom scrap damage. On E6, it is always just scratches. Always less than 10 damage on some ships. They might sink one ship and that's all, never 2 ships or more like in E4. Something is fucking off.

Do you have jets (or even just a Kikka Kai)? If so you take Zuikaku and enjoy them actually being useful for a change. Even if not I'd still take CVB + CAV, CAV can at least occasionally sink something during shelling.
