has found the answer of its whereabouts, I might have found the location. 〒643-0004 Wakayama-ken, Arida-gun, Yuasa-chō, Yuasa, 湯浅町湯浅304, the shop name is 彼乃子(next to 平和食堂 having 大東一, which appears to be Wakayama's local sake brand, on their sign). Surprisingly enough, they are still open in 2018 as it has one google review saying their 釜めし is quite good. Don't know why google translated 釜めし as ramen though. Sorry for taking so long, work had me busy...

I have some money I can use to get me to Japan, but I'm not sure what's the best thing to do in my case. I don't really mind working long hours because I already have to do so here in my country and I'm also not paid for it... dress codes, etc, these things don't bother me.

Anyway, the way I see it I could go to those language school courses for 2 years and search for a job before the student visa ends up, because that way I'd be more attractive to the market in Japan as a whole (I have a bachelors degree in my country but it's pretty much useless since its not STEM). I already speak some Japanese and have completed Genki 1/2 so I'm not a total beginner. You guys said knowing Japanese would open many doors so this is one bet I'd take because in order to live there and pay for tuition etc I'd use the money I have saved up (btw I don't know if this matters but I also speak English, Spanish, German and Portuguese). I want to remain in Japan so I'd need to find a sponsor for my visa after the language school. What are the odds of making this come true?

I suppose the other option I have is simply going to University in Japan for a new Bachelor's Degree.... the problem with this is obvious, as it requires 4 years and much more money, but I suppose it's a safer bet than the mentioned previously.

OK /jp/ I have a question and this thread seemed to be at least related....

I have a painting of Mount Fuji (Pic Related) and I was wondering if anyone here could tell me what the kanji signature reads???

I don't know if it is something 'special' or just a piece for the tourist trade. It came from my grandfather and I know he had it since at least the 60's. (a pic of their house shows it on a wall in 1970)
The odd part of that is he served in Germany and France in WWII, but he was 1 of 6 cousins that all served and some of them were in the Pacific and occupied Japan, so maybe they traded trophies or something.....I'll never know the answer to that as they are all too dead to tell me now....

I appreciate any answers you may give, Thanks /jp/

Mainly the working culture, yeah. I earn over double the amount that some of the manual laborers there do, with a normal 40h schedule each week. And four more weeks of paid vacation each year, compared to their one week. Some of them don't even get that.
Aside from that, Chinese tourists flooding the country, making it impossible to go anywhere without hearing one of them shout at each other. I don't know if that's a recent phenomenon, but I definitely notice them more now than before.
Crowded cities (I come from a small town not even 0,1% the populaton of Tokyo), so for me, I could never stay in the big cities. Staying in one of the smaller towns or even the inaka seems much more laid-back, so I guess there's that option.

Maybe a temporary working visa would be OK, or even studying there for some time. I think I would still prefer being a tourist.

>> No.18602339

If it is an option for you, I'd suggest a working holiday visa to see what it's like to live here. Then if you like it, you can try looking to live here permanently. Otherwise, I would suggest a language school. This would also allow you to try living and working in Japan, while learning the language. If you already know Japanese though, it's kind of a waste of money (was for me at least) but it would still let you come here.
If you're in your 30s with a career and maybe even a family or something, then yeah, dropping everything to come to Japan isn't the best idea. But if you are a dude living at home still, then why not? Even if you end up deciding to go back home, at least you have the experience and can say you did something.

It's good that you acknowledge that it's ordinary, but I'd wager most people ITT don't, like the pajeet earlier in this very thread.

When I started learning Japanese I slowly started growing contempt for weeaboos and it physically makes me sick seeing someone use memes they learned from anime like saying "tadaima" when they got back on Ventrilo from doing whatever they were doing away from the keyboard. My friends did that, they probably still do. I wouldn't know because I slowly started phasing out all contact with them. They're probably still envious that I ""made it" and moved to Japan". and continue jerking off to Touhou and Oreimo.
Some of us grow up, others stay eternal manchildren. Keep yourselves grounded, it's not healthy obsess over cartoons, or rather, don't project your fantasies on real Japan.
If you're a /pol/baby that wants a "based traditional Japanese housewife" because you can't get laid in *whatever country you're from*, just kill yourself. Yellow fever fags are even worse than figure collectors.
You know how whenever someone posts a picture of an average Japanese woman, all the AVfags cry out and say "Ree, that's a cherrypicked class of schoolgirls, I know everyone in Japan looks like Aoi Sora!"? Don't be like them. Actually, even worse might be the ones that see average Japanese women and still think they are goddesses because they are ACTUALLY delusional and don't see what other people see.
Most expats, especially English teachers are actually retarded, only hang out with other weeaboos in their 30's because they never ACTUALLY try to learn Japanese.
If you're actually interested in the real Japan, you're welcome to become another cog in the system, just know that most women here do not look like AV idols, they won't worship you for being white, normal people will look down on you for owning a figure collection, you will make a third or a quarter of what you would back in the US, and you will always be regarded as an outsider, even after you get married to a used old gaijin hunter and have hapa offspring.

Honestly, I got a general interest in Asia from watching a documentary about China, I'll probably start learning Mandarin soon and see about getting a job in Taiwan a few years later. The only reason I picked Japanese in the first place is because I watched a lot of anime as a teen and knew I'd have lots of content to keep motivating my language studies. Turns out I toned down on anime and started almost exclusively watching 3d dramas because the EOP weeaboo communities like 4chan started pissing me off.
There's no denying that Japan is beautiful during certain times of the year, that's why I'm in this thread (looking for places to visit). You'll enjoy Japan more visiting as a tourist than living here. It's not worth the sunk cost, every expat you'll ever meet will tell you this yet hundreds of aspiring Davido-kuns never heed our warnings.

Without all of the thick contempt, couldn't you just caution towards not getting swept up in pop / entertainment culture? Because that sort of parallel exists in any country that exports entertainment, with Hollywood being the obvious example. Normal people never look like they do in movies or magazines, and often daily life is routine and whatever you decide to make of it.

There's a degree of acceptance that's probably hard to convey on an imageboard. Liking things is rarely bad in itself. Obsessing over things probably is bad. It's cool to watch even a lot of shows and grow interested in a different culture, but like you said you shouldn't treat those shows as anything other than entertainment. Use those shows as a launch pad to learn language or customs or whatever else.

You really should have looked into what a 外資系 is at the very beginning.

I avoided most, if not all, of your woes by just going to a 外資系 from the get go instead of some 社畜 日系企業. (Make sure it's not 外資 just in name, but actually culturally 外資)

I can't honestly tell if you're just larping, or just really really bitter. Most of your complaints and warnings are so old they're considered antiques by now. (Hell, some of them didn't even apply when I first went to Japan in the late nineties, let alone today.)

Women don't particularly care about your skin color unless they have a reason to. Yeah, some of them don't date outside their race. Yeah, some of them know their parents are never, ever going to condone it. Most don't give a shit, and more than a few really are interested because you're foreign. (Many of them will tell you this, not realizing that a lot of guys would probably take it the wrong way.) Sure, if you're looking for "actual love" you're in for a rough ride, as you systematically pick though all the gaijin hunters, English lesson hounds, and other undesirables. If you're just looking to get it in, not a problem at all.

The weebs you're worried about misunderstanding the real Japan should be the least of your concerns. They're exactly the sort of people who aren't going to make it across the pond in the first place, unless it's as an English teacher, and I don't need to tell you how long those types last in country. Or at least I shouldn't have to.

And honestly, no one is judging you for having a figure collection. No more so than they'd judge a native in the same situation. The real question is whether or not you're the sort to give a fuck about what anyone, Japanese or otherwise, thinks of your hobbies and lifestyle outside of your own circle of friends. If you're honestly into that sort of crap, and you're surrounded by people who aren't and are judgmental about it, you should probably hang around other people, even in Japan. Hell, especially in Japan. Just saying.

About the only thing you've said that doesn't sound like it's right out of "I've been to Japan! Honest! - A Pictorial Bullshitters Guidebook" is the part about never being accepted. You're right about that. Most Japanese are never, ever going to accept you as a "native" in any real capacity, even if you're a citizen. The differences in skin color, attitude, and culture are just too great. But so what? Seriously, so fucking what? You're not hanging around people who have a problem with your nationality and heritage, right? Then there isn't an issue. The girl behind the counter at MOS doesn't give a fuck. She just wants to sell you a burger. Your boss doesn't give a fuck. He just wants you to do your damned job without stepping out in front of the train on your way home. Your girlfriend doesn't give a fuck. If she did, you wouldn't have a girlfriend.

>every expat you'll ever meet will tell you this
Except for all the ones who won't, in fact, tell you that. Myself included.

You really just sound like a "reformed" weeaboo who's angry, bitter, and a little embarrassed about how you used to act.

>He just wants you to do your damned job without stepping out in front of the train on your way home.
Well, some bosses.

That last point you make is an interesting one. A lot of people get uptight about not being accepted as native, and think it's a requirement. Maybe because I was raised in Canada by Brits and see myself as English-Canadian, that whole issue doesn't bother me. I lived in Korea for a while, and never felt accepted as a native despite fluency. I also lived in Japan for a while and had the same thing (albeit with more special treatment). But you know, it never really bothered me. I like being different and having my own perspective on stuff, and it gives you lots to talk about with people who are natives. I would never want to be Japanese, even if I wanted to continue living there.

I think there's a difference between defending/respecting heritage and demanding no change, though there is overlap for some folks.
I like the philosophy of recognize your heritage, preserve that which matters, but carry it into a brighter future.

I should clarify what I meant. I have no issues with people protecting their own heritage through individual action and thought. I likewise have no problem with people coming together for the same purpose to preserve and promote their own heritage. And I don't really care if governments promote a specific national heritage. What I don't like is the idea of "defending" your heritage by imposing it on others. Either by censoring the speech of others or (more insidiously) using authority to compel speech.

However a lot of new people on 4chan are warming up to the idea that this is needed, to make the bad things and people go away. Plus ça change...

does every japanese person in the city live in an apartment or townhouse? are there suburbs and shit? in the rural areas the houses in the burbs seem to be pretty small compared to the US. our suburbs are stacked

In some of the less populated Tokyo wards you can get small townhouses for the equivalent of $300k US

I imagine that on the periphery of smaller cities there are cheaper houses.

I live in a small house about a five minute walk from the Imperial Palace in Kyoto.

Problem is that a house is pricey, and a pain when you have to move for work.

On a tangent, it's always been interesting to know that Akiba is about the same distance from the old moats of Edo Castle. You would never think that selling dojinshi and figs could pay for rents in that area.

unrelated? do japs like black people? not niggers but if a black person learned japanese and geniunely cared about japan would he be a regular gaijin like a white person or would he be a baka kokugaijin

I used to live in a European city where the (wooden) townhouses were also built together and packed in tight.
You deal with fire by using literal firewalls, having a responsive fire department and learning to live with the threat. Sometimes entire rows of housing do burn down.
You deal with disease the same way any other city does: working sanitation systems, sewers, running water and being anal about garbage collection. Japan also has (kind of) single-payer healthcare, so if you're a citizen you can get basic care free at point-of-service.

Renting varies from $300 a month on up. Looking around $1000 a month for something nice. Place next door which is identical to our house was being rented for $1200 a month. Three stories, but extremely narrow. Two tatami rooms, two bedrooms, two toilets, one tub, and a kitchen/den combo room.

>fires

A pretty serious neighborhood fire watch. Plus there is fire buckets and extinguishers out in front of every other house.

>disease

People here actually stay clean. Even streets are swept and washed.

Plus excessive hand washing and gargling helps a ton.

Most major cities outside of the United States deal with levels of density akin to that.
Back in the day, people had to live where they work, and shop where they live. So cities were design to be more pedestrian oriented. Whereas American/Canadian cities tend to be more automobile oriented.
