Anyways the reason why Intrepid's art looks so awkward is because she is 7 to 8 heads tall while the norm including Shibafu's other art is 4 to 6 heads tall. I have no idea why he did this other than to reference some western comic books. Considering her lines perhaps Tanaka requested it.
This does not lend it self well to Shibafu's style and if it was something that Tanaka requested then I think pretty much all the artists currently in the game would drawn an rather awkward looking girl. They are not used to it. Hell it's the reason why many people believe her head should be somewhat enlarged.

Gnevy class destroyers weren't huge. Heck most of their destroyers were no bigger than the late Akizuki, Battle class and Gearings. Tashkent is a one off that was big but I mean so were Akizukis. The French Mogadors and Le Fantasque classes were even larger.

After a night of laughing at amerimutts as a yuropoor, I've looked again at Intrepid's CG, and it sure as Hell looked bad. But then, if you remove the neck-cushion-something, and that weird loose top, its kind of okay, cute even. I think Akira and you should have switched places for ships. Gambier Bay would have been more fitting as a potato. Also why the 1903 Springfield? As an Essex class shouldn't she have a more modern gun like the M1? Then there is the fact that Yankees built their carriers with open hangars but it doesn't feel like that's referenced in any part of her design.
