The thing I don't like about /a/ is it's over-reliance on memes and template threads. Not to mention it's filled with unproductive shitposting that isn't even relevant to the threads. Though on the other side, /jp/ gets offended much easier. Sometimes they're justified, other times it's the same problem like other boards in the sense of 'stop lieking what i haet' type of arguments. Still, both are better (in my opinion) than the absolutely relentless shitposters on /m/. Mind you, I consider /m/'s actual discussions to be better than /a/ and /jp/, but the shitposters somehow made the board as a whole much worse.

/a/ is just /v/ but for anime, full of normals who think the board topic is ironic and are looking for an excuse to get angry over stupid shit.
/jp/ may be 50% off-topic cancer that got forced on us from elsewhere, and another 45% silly character worship/bully threads, but at least when there's a good conversation to be had, we can have it without devolving into the most basic, boring type of flamewar imaginable. Also, there's still some spark of creativity left here.

I have never had a desire to attempt to talk Touhou with /vg/ let alone /v/ itself. People drift in here from /vg/ to say 2hug is great every so often and I never see the appeal when looking. I can't imagine condensing every aspect of Touhou Project into one thread and trying to have a cohesive discussion without it turning into a chatroom with people jumping over each other. I've tried to have discussion in /vg/ threads before and shit can just completely derail. I'll take the slow current state of /jp/ with all its warts over those any day, because despite it being rare, I still get far better discussion here than elsewhere and can focus on different aspects of the franchise in different threads over a period of days. Despite being an autistic bunker it's still our autistic bunker and for the most part (maybe not in the 3d or virtual youtube threads i dont know) threads are condensed and people still make an attempt here to preserve board culture and not homogenize with the rest of this site. Which means a lot.

That being said sometimes promising threads can turn into /v/ or 2hug tier trash like that thread where the new player asked where he should start to read supplementary materials to understand the characters more and autists started comparing their favorite games completely unprompted and screaming "secondary" in every other post
