What have you finished? What are you playing? What are you looking forward to? You know the drill.

Having some gratin. Aside of that one voice actor Cotton Soft seems to love (and I hate with a passion) it's fun so far.

Man the H-scenes in Aoitori are pretty good. Beside how extremely erotic the sex itself and the art, the writing is pretty good. I can't describe how but they show a " female's warmth and kindness " in accurate way. Like it Shows that only and only females are able to make these kind of expression, say these kind of things to the person they lovd during sex. Sometimes you find something like this line " she isn't a girl anymore, she has a women face on her now "

To be honest I can't get enough of this feeling, lately with all the feminist, gender equality bullshit I become somehow gulity of treating girls based on their gender, I am afraid I am not treating them as human. But this game reminded me, it's pretty fucking nice for female to have a female-only property. It's pretty nice for a girl to do a girl-like things.

Anyway, this is the second game I am reading the full H-scene beside Chronobox. Lately it seems eroge writers are only good at writing sex secens.

>Chronobox
>good sex

I'm still kinda thinking the sex was written deliberately "awful" because it was all just a dream by a penisless guy anyway. The scenes really fit that.

That said, once you stop thinking about "girl things" and "guy things", you'll enjoy stuff more. A girl is always a girl, no matter what kind of stuff she does.

I like doing my own choices the first time I play a vn but now that I've finished Tsubaki's(first) and Ushio's route I was left with Neko's and it seems completely unrelated to the story; just a dumb japanese teen love story with the girl feeling embarrassed of holding hands and being called by her name

I'm only going through Cotton Soft, and the only one I can kinda recommend is there first title so far. You gotta get past the prologue though. Gratin seems to be fine, but it is quite different from the other games. A lot more lewd in all ways with ero-ish scenes in the prologue even. (that said, the prologue IS 360kb..) Main Heroine is also a little different compared to what you get in their other games which is probably a negative for most people. A positive for me though, as I just don't like girls that are only "nice" and maybe a bit clumsy/dumb, but nothing else.

The problem is that the ending is the whole thing. The novel is basically a mystery story about who these people are, why they are here, and at the end it drops the answer: theres no reason, its just random, sorry bad luck. Why is god doing this? No reason, he just does what he does.

It may be an answer to the mystery, but one get the feeling that the author didn't really put much effort into it.

That is why I don't really care about the sequel. Battle of wits is, more than mystery, not a genre for lazy writing.

Bug one seems somewhat interesting (and weird), but I may as well wait if the new version gets shared or something.
If I don't find anything else that's randomly picking my interest, I'll probably go with some 3rd eye. Recently read their first work, which had vampires, so I don't need those again right now.

Sora no Baroque is actually something I may like, given that it's supposed to be a little different from typical chuuni with battles being more means for plot than the main feature (or something?), but I'd like to at least get to Dies Irae before so I know what light usually stands for. The cross dressing premise really detracted from the game for me due the protagonist needing to constantly lie and the whole thing just being ridiculously unrealistic. Aside from that, the characters are nice and the comedy okay, but it's really just a mediocre game all around. It's funny how the prologue is vastly superior to the rest of the game. It sets expectations high just for them to be let down.

You'll want to get the enemy in the air so that other enemies can't interrupt you, then just combo them to death. Honestly I was fine just using ranged weapons for the majority of the game. When I got to the last route I made a basic combo which made the rest of the game 2x easier.

Melee sucks because of not all enemies staggering on your first hit. Meaning they just hit you back and you can't do anything about this. With guns it doesn't matter. The same thing obviously happens, but if you use the machinegun, they'll stagger soon enough and they are further away anyway.

That said, there are a few parts of the game where you should be fast and those tend to only have fodder where you can melee (and should, as melee is faster). That's it though. If you go ranged, think of supporting tools to help you. Mines and such. Other than that, ranged is probably a lot less of a hassle to setup as well. No need to figure out what combos into what, especially with aerial reach and all that shit. (and having to redo it after 5 battles, as the energy usage goes down making it no longer that great...)

>quickly realize that melee is kinda tough to hit and results in getting your ass kicked
At the very start melee is worse because you don't have access to dashes, search dash, or good combo starters, but it quickly becomes more efficient than ranged once you unlock them. You also unlock moves that have superarmor which help you avoid getting knocked out of combos.
>guns are much safer and easier to use
You can plow through all of Dive1 on normal with just spreadbomb and bazooka, but melee if much faster and more fun in my opinion. In later routes on higher difficulties and survival where hordes of armored enemies are swarming you, ranged alone really doesn't cut it.
This is what I was using mid-Nanoha route. That's enough damage to 1shot any midweight enemy on hard difficulty and you can easily get more by using leveled up skills, I was switching them out all the time in order to unlock other ones or so as to not "waste" experience on already maxed ones, excluding a couple core skills like impact rod and tackle. The only ranged weapons I was using were handgun and bazooka. Handgun (which would be swapped out once it hits level 3) to pick off stragglers with low health, and bazooka for aoe and as a panic button if tackle wasn't available.

I was in Tokyo recently, spent a lot of time in Akiba as per usual. Picked up a bunch of Eushully games and perfect guidebooks. Haven't played the middle two yet so looking forward to them.

For upcoming stuff, the most prevalent ads were by far for Riddle Joker, I saw it in almost every store. Following close behind was Yorikure, at least until it came out. Also saw a good number of ads for Summer Pockets, Otoboku 3 and the new Rance game.

Any thoughts on any of these? I'm kind of interested in Riddle Joker since it seemed to be so popular. I also stumbled upon the Yuzusoft store which had some pretty cool merch but I haven't played any of their games, so maybe this will fix that. Are any of their other games good? Flowers for some lesbian plot, since the last episode was released. Summer (2) part is pure fun and joy. The autumn (3) part opens up a lot in its treatment of the lesbian theme; it is a psychodrama where you constantly doubt when the protagonist will kill herself. Some ideas.

Izumo4: It takes a while to get to the "good" part of the gameplay. The story is okay, but gets weaker when the gameplay gets better. Routes are pretty shitty though, as you'd need to beat the final boss over and over again, which is quite frankly super annoying.

Tsuki no Michibiki Kumo Haruka: It isn't that much of an Rpg, but the battles are still fun. If you play to never take damage that is. It's like a puzzle, and as far as I've played it, it was always possible to figure out a solution to not take damage the first time you don a battle. (once you are high level it's obviously no longer a "challenge") I feel like the game was designed for that as well, even though technically you can get damaged. Quite a bit even, I think.
There's a grid where the enemy is on. Pretty long, but not very wide. (width grows as the game goes on I think) Enemies up to range 3 away are "active" and you see a counter over them, when they attack. It counts down every time you finish a turn, and if it turns 0, they attack. The grid automatically "advances", if there's no enemy or other object between the party and the next line afterwards. So if there's one enemy with range 1 away and nothing else on that line, after you kill it that line gets "removed" and everything formerly range 4 away gets activated. Inactive enemies don't "count down". Pretty much all your attacks do reposition enemies and you have some aoe as well. You also see roughly how much damage you do. So you shove around, aoe and so on in efficient ways, that nobody ever gets to 0 or if that happens, you are immune. (there are some very limited ways to do so) The idea never really changes, so it can grow old, but it's fun for at least a while.

Finally, if you just want a little causal gameplay and good amount of lewds, maybe consider Tou no Shita no Exercitus. It's okay. Or if you like your Softhouse Chara: Noroi no Maken ni Yamitsuki Otome. It's very old school, doesn't explain itself very well (it's designed for many playthroughs with ng+ so it's completely normal to be able to do next to nothing in one round at first), you'll be flag hunting and whatnot. But it's quite fun once you get into it, after cursing how shit it is. Like most Softhouse Chara titles really.

Finished chapter one of Shinigami no Testament. (which is more than it sounds) It feels kinda better than Bloody Rondo, but it has a LOT of consistency and logic issues. Some of those don't hurt, some do. A lot.

The main story is not something I can get really invested in, so I doubt I'll bother finishing the whole thing. I don't care about the main heroine, which is really really bad in this. The problem is that here is one of the big parts where things not making sense hurts. Someone who sees other people die, being actively part of killing other people and such, suddenly going nuts because someone died? (Not someone special to her or anything) That makes 0 sense. Not exactly sure why that same character was heavily claiming to do x, essentially just did the opposite one minute later either. No explanation. Nothing. And this leading to the main drama pretty much out of nowhere and me not particularly liking the heroine is a bad combination. I don't know what the hell happened. Because it honestly makes no sense.

I also did the Kana sidestory. This one is having the same issues of really awkward decisions and flow. Protag sees the news, someone got killed by a shotgun, and he immediately thinks "Hey, my girlfriend has a shotgun. IT MUST'VE BEEN HER!!!!!". What? Like... what? It's ultimately irrelevant. Like the very fact some random dude got killed by a shotgun. The list continues with similar things, mostly not really mattering here though. The main conflict actually makes sense, and works. It's just missing a lot of things, as there was more than enough left that should've probably been told. Time was out though.

Outside of that, the battles so far are also a bit strange. Most of them are still randoms, which is generally uninteresting, but with the exception of one they were short. The long one was however as bad as it could be. Random character, no value in anything he does or says and everything ends with a big deus ex machina meaning nothing matters in the battle. As expected I guess? However, there was also one battle that was alright, pitting characters against each other with both having understandable goals and none of them being random maniacs gone mad. That being in a sidestory is unfortunate, but at least something.

I'll continue this for a bit into chapter 2, but if this considers to have the same issues, I'll probably not make it till the end.

Fixed.
There's a reason why CS jobs in Japan are paid one tenth than they are elsewhere, and it's because they are worth one tenth of professionals in other countries.

You can frequently find stories of code monkeys going to Japan and blowing the locals' retrograde minds with 20 years old programming techniques that are apparently still new to them.

Finished Nao in Satsukoi. It was nice. The game balances drama and comedy nicely, so there's a scene full of gags (not the gagging-on-a-dick kind) after every tear-jerker one.

I like that despite the fact that this is a fantasy setting, it still remains kind of a down-to-earth story (or at least in this route).

The scene in pic related reminded me of Tsukihime, the part where Shiki follows Arcueid, and it seems like he's going to rape her, but then just ends up slicing her up.

That kind of dialogue feels so forced, especially when it's a 2D girl that has the perfect proportions, face, etc. Just seems like she's being manipulative and fishing for compliments, even though that's not the writer's intention.

You know the premise. Get out to do things and get your shit together; stop being a fucking hikikomori. Let's say, it manages to be successful in its message in the same degree it managed to annoy the Japanese public for calling out their shit. Have to say, the authors had big balls by writing this to their public.
Work's being ignored in the most Japanese way of ignoring their own faults. But as a non Japanese person, reading it helps you understand Japanese society in the same way Higanbana helped you reach the gravity of the bully theme in Japan.

Nah it's not chunni or anything. If you're using it as your first VN to learn you're probably going to struggle with it but that goes for anything you'll read really. Don't worry about it too much.

The horror atmosphere was well done and it has a plot that drives it forwards so even though it's not really what I would consider "horror," and also has a fair amount of moege elements, it doesn't really stagnate (until you get to the lovey-dovey parts after the long common route, but the actual heroine routes are pretty short actually).

Also the vndb synopsis has spoilers but you probably already read it so oh well.

>> No.18388979

>> No.18389004

>>18388979
As the other person said, you're worrying about it too much. Most VN shit is "easy", only specific things (like chuuni action titles) will be hopelessly challenging. Instead of asking us (which is technically off-topic for this thread and goes in DJT), just dive in yourself.

>> No.18389054

I mostly started learning in order to get around the middle man in general. Censorship? Year long waits? No thank you. Also, even back then, I was aware that things inevitably got lost in translation. Even if you have a /lit/fag-level grasp on both English and Japanese, you're still going to find yourself having to make judgement calls on wording, and the end product is not going to be the same as the original. The two languages are too different.

I did enjoy Monster Girl Quest Paradox, though.
