Although we joke about MangaGamer's bad policies now, in the long run it may be a horrible disaster for English releases as a whole

Three non-trivial sized Japanese companies invested in MangaGamer as an experiment into the English market through online distribution. However, MangaGamer, being the idiots that they are, has done just about everything they can wrong, and there is no reason to believe that they will be able to pull in profit in the long run without drastically changing how they run their business. Here they had a golden opportunity, releasing a game that has an anime that is decently well known within the English community and can draw in support from more than the very small visual novel market, and what do they do? They are able to fixed their first major problem with the lack of a good translation, but they leaving it online for only ONE FUCKING DAY, then because of a single bug, they pull it off the market for nearly a month. On top of that, the one day they do leave it open is a holiday that many potential buyers are doing other stuff. Yet, this is the company that the Japanese companies are using to judge the market outside of Asia, and MangaGamer is making it look even worse than it actually is, and it was fairly bad to begin with.

So, where is the torrent?

I believe the problem is that the translation quality was actually quite good, which sets customers standards higher and forces them to take all their future releases seriously, so to prevent this they need to lower the translation quality before too many people buy it so that they can continue to release lower quality translations.

No, because if you payed attention, they ported Da Capo to a new engine, which is the same engine used in Edelweiss, looking more closesly at the screenshots, you'll be able to tell that it uses BGI, not da capo's original engine, so they're probably playing mangagamer's version.

OVERDRIVE at least seems very interested in this, as they are looking to hire more people to help with localization

Yeah, they pretty much view the rest of the world as untapped potential, so they are using Mangagamer along with less risk download only distribution in order to try and make some extra money with the foreign market. It is a shame that they didn't work with a better group than Mangagamer.

If the Mangagamer experiment is successful for these companies, it would be reasonable to expect other companies to try to jump in, seeing potential cash without the need to do all that much work.

So they were going to do another last minute delay? That is a hell of a lot better, I am sure that by changing the release date the just hours before a scheduled release date would do nothing to anger people planning to buy it.

As much as it pains me to support Mangagamer's stupidity, I would like to support the Circus titles (and the Overdrive titles) in hopes of getting more releases, and to support their actually high quality translation, but if I can't buy the games, then there is no way for me to support them.
