Its close, requires around 2500 hours of self study but fluent doesn't require readings of technical papers but some STEM jobs like mine require it so takes a little bit longer. worth it though.
In my mind fluency will never happen, maybe when I am in my forties I'll be where most native Japanese speakers are at.

>>18173023
No, N2 is not considered fluent.
N2 doesn't involve talking at all.

It doesn't literally matter what JLPT level you have when it comes to fluency. You need to actually use Japanese in daily life in relationships with Japanese people so that you can actually grasp speech patterns in regards to context and actually use them yourself.

You can go all the way through N1 learning all the vocabulary and grammar formations without learning why they would pick one sentence over another that has the same meaning and thus be able to pick the correct one during a conversation with a Japanese person.

And further, if you actually think about how you speak in English you can build a sentence as you go along. You don't have to start by thinking about what you want to say and then building the words around it to make the sentence. That's an important point in fluency, you don't have to think about what you want to say in English, and then how to build that in Japanese.

JLPT needs to be divorced from the idea of fluency in Japanese. Yes, it is almost always a requirement for getting a job in a Japanese business, but that requirement isn't there so that they know you can converse with them fluently. It's so they know you have a reasonably high understanding of Japanese, that you can read the information you are given, you can understand what they are telling you. Fluency is something you will gain from experience while living in Japan.

It becomes more like that the smaller cities get. Visit one of Japan's many 100k cities some time and you'll see how cozy they can be, specially those on the Western coast in Winter. The problem is the smaller cities get, the less things there are to do. Specially in regards to otaku culture. You'll not find things like the Pizza Hut and Lawson collabs with brands like im@s and KanColle anywhere but in Tokyo. Besides, if you're serious about your hobbies, who gives a damn if the locals are less friendly, if you won't ever bother talking to strangers to begin with. That's why you might be right, but Tokyo is a better place for most otaku.

Precisely this. The business culture here is still generally very conservative in terms of dress code, so shirts and suits are major clothing items for most people. And even things like coats, sweaters, etc get taken to the cleaner a lot more often than other places. People tend to keep their clothing neat and in very good condition. I never felt like such a slob as when I first moved to Tokyo. Even if it's just a t-shirt and jeans, people tend to have good quality garments that are clean, well-fitted, and well-styled.

Have another one, this time Ueno.

The majority of the people in that pic seem to have natural hair though.

Also, so what if they dye their hair?
You guys say that as if it wasn't a fucking cancer in the west, which, actually, it's probably way more common here.

Is this what they call a 'wide angle lens'? When I was in China last yea I tried one out and it was very enjoyable to use taking photos of Shanghai at night, but I was just using a friend's camera, and I don't have my own wide angle lens. Is it worth purchasing if I want to get better at taking photos of scenery?

Yes and no.

It is a wide angle, but has so much distortion it is often referred to as a fisheye.

To put it simply, the wider the lens (the lower the mm number) the wider to field of view.

Attached is an example of the more common wide angle and ultra wide angle fields of view.

Note that this example is with a FF camera. On a crop, it doesn't come out as wide.

sorry to tell you the truth, but the more natural photography looks the better it is.
I know it upsets you hearing it.
I KNOW YOU THINK YOU'RE BEING ARTISTIC.
You're not. You're actually taking amazing photos but making them unsaveable because they're in an offputting hue.

>> No.18327856

>>18327798
I think the building in the background looks a bit washed out compared to the default version, but the first one isn't necessarily more or less natural. The colors will depend on the camera sensor and the white balance set in the camera or applied by default by the raw processing software. Case in point, if Ioad DNGs from my phone in a raw editor, they look nearly completely desaturated. Only by cranking the saturation way up do I get a result that somewhat matches reality. No, I'm not oversaturating them. Implying that the default processing parameters are always closest to how the scene was perceived by the photographer is frankly ridiculous.

There's compositional justification too. The lights help direct the eye to the center point and funnels down the street. The original is sparser and darker and has less of that effect. The 2nd one is too bright to create those guidelines.

I'm sorry you feel that way. Please don't get mad though, it's just a bunch of photos after all.

I do think I'm being artistic and so are many other photographers who like to paint their pictures with more vivid colors. I do understand that this is not a documentation of reality and of course I do also save the raw picture for private archival purposes.

>> No.18329764

>>18329570
I can understand that but having been there when I took the photo I do not agree in that it necessarily looks more natural. The lights on the very corners and the color of the buildings are too dark in the original and the orange glow in the distance (due to the snow and rain) is much better replicated in the 3rd variant. That being said, it's more washed out than reality (despite me not wearing my glasses) and the colors are of course a bit too muted and vibrant to really be called realistic. I'll post a more realistic version of that photo later.
