If it wasn't for this, I would be finished with Kouri's route a long time ago. I did find out how to make the right choice, but it made me feel disheartened because I needed to look it up.

I wanted to play this, but after two hours I realised that it didn't contain porn scenes. But by then I'd already long a go realized it was awesome, and played it through. Then I kept on playing until I got both of Kouri's good ends.

A good VN can be incredibly hot. But Tsukihime sucks, it's not a good example of porn with plot. Most of my collection of VN is untranslated Japanese, but of those that I've seen translated, Casual Romance Club was the first I played, and was quite good, but nothing on the level of hotness of the things I'm playing now, and the characters were quite old.
In general loli manga > loli game > loli anime, but there's the occasional awesome looking game. I just have to try. Like Musumaker, but that's not really a VN.

Does that actually bother you too much? If the choices are too straightforward, it's kinda boring. It's rare in real life that we can fully see the consequences of our actions. Admittedly, completely illogical connections between choices and results are hard to swallow.

Similarly, I don't mind when you get thrown in to dead ends for completely unforseeable reasons.

I played through all of Kouri's endings and halfway through one run of Yoshine's before I said fuck you to the douchebag that was protagonist. He has some awesome comments and all, but he's so depressing and lashing out at everyone and making cute girls cry that I got sick of it. And that makes me sad, I wanted to play though at least everybody's route once.

Well... It's not. The porn is generally bad from what I've seen, though certainly good for a few laughs here and there ('It feels so good I want to vomit', mollusks, etc.). You don't read, for example, F/SN for the porn scenes, you read it for the rest of the story. The porn is like that layer of icing in between the two layers of cake, except it's the kind you find in a store-bought cake (crisco+sugar) while the cake itself is home-made and delicious. The porn is tolerable, and even enjoyable if you can suppress your gag reflex long enough, but it's the rest of the story that makes it worth it.
