Best resources for learning Japanese? Free if possible. Ideally I'm looking for a set course, my discipline is lacking

It's called using "google.com" because there are a thousand other people that have asked the exact same question as you.
But I am going to spoon-feed you because you are a child and I am your mom.

1. You start by learning Hiragana and Katakana. Don't even try to use roumaji.
2. You download the genki books and go through them. They'll teach you the basics.
To go through the books I recommend first checking the vocabulary page and learning all of the words by heart.
Then check the grammar, and read the sample texts. Then you do the tasks in the workbook.
When you learn the Kanji remember to write them down in the correct stroke order. You can see how you write in the correct order at jisho.org
This is honestly enough to keep you going for a year.

Remember to study every single day. Make it a habit.
Remember the correct stroke order.
Remember to use pen and paper and write things down.
Remember to read things out loud so you get used to actually pronouncing.
Remember to check pronounciation at forvo.com so you don't mispronounce.
Remember that you can (not) learn japanese.

You don't need a daily rep thread to do daily reps, but if you find that it helps then go for it! You too work hard!

I finished genki one and am currently navigating genki two. With every chapter i complete, i can comprehend additional verses of the japanese songs that I listen to. I may never make it to japan, but that alone is dang rewarding.
