What's the difference between 身体 with furigana as からだ or just writing 体?

I always see 身体 with からだ as furigana and never the actual word 体 used.

I'm reading a manga and two characters are standing at a UFO catcher. It's hard to tell whether they've just had a failed attempt or if they're readying up for the next attempt. The sound effect is ウイーン, with イ being half-sized (not able to replicate it with my IME frustratingly).

I know that ウーン can both be an 'oooh' and an 'ughhh' sound, but does the イ give any further indication of which it might be?

Why is this a thing

I'm translating/editing a goofy comic and a character asks if they can stop at the store for birthday cake. The other character then says "いらね" in the world's tiniest speech bubble. The character saying that has a sneaky smile on his face, so it seems the connotation is "There's cake at home" rather than "You don't need cake".

Because the bubble is so impossibly small, would "No need" suffice or does that sound too mean? I'm labouring over this far too much, I just don't want to be a shitty translator.

you are not exposed to kanji in a daily basis. It's just "broscience", but I think I use the same part of my brain that is used to recognize faces to read a kanji. You're just not used to see them and "they look all the same", just like --insert any etnic group that is not common in your country here-- look all the same to you. So I'm about half a month into learning Japanese and I'm honestly having a lot of fun so far. I know the entire hiragana alphabet and can recall most of the katakana as of now. Once I'm solid with katakana however I'm not really sure where to go.

Anyone have any good suggestions? Short term goals I should aim for? I've been told to try out this guy's playlists where he goes over kana, some kanji, and grammar, but I'm usually open to other ideas. I'm also using guidetojapanese.org as a sort of guideline for most things I should study.

Going to sleep shortly after I post this, but I'm going to start checking into the daily Japanese threads from now on so I should be able to reply to anything.

I'm reading this sakubi and I'll be honest with you guys. Seems to be the best thing about grammar I ever read. I hate grammar, so much that took me 3 months of anki reviewing. I wasn't understanding a thing about what was happening on those phrases. The thing with sakubi is it looks like something someone would use to study and read. If you know certain simple kanji I would take advantage of that and focus on words that contain it or build off them.

For example, if you know 行く, then words like 移行、連行、and 行きつけ would be relatively easier compared to completely new ones.

If you're using core or a premade deck there's no rule that the cards need to be done in order. I usually suspend all cards and only unsuspend the ones I want. Anything that looks or feels like it will become a leech gets suspended again.

Do the way you feel more confortable, but the important part is the start. Just start steady and slowly, don't get too crazy about it. If you see you're starting to get too tired slow your pace. That deck seems good to the way you're learning things, you'll eventually close the gap between the kanjis of the words you were supposed to know.

1. で and に both frequently translate as "at." With で, however, there is no deep connection implied between the action and the place of said action as there is with に. The best example of this contrast between the two particles can be seen with the concept of "to work."

1. ここで働はたらきます。　　　　VS　　　　ここに勤つとめています。
I work here.　　　　　　　　　　　　　I work here.

　　　The first one says that you just work there. You may just be an extra hand, someone that just does things, or the job may just be temporary. The second says that you have been working there; you're employed there. It's the kind of work where you are going to probably be there for a long time. For example, 会社かいしゃに勤めている.

You can read pdf, epub I'm not sure. But you could convert epub to kindle format. My kindle is the 4th generation, maybe they added epub support on the new versions.

So I get just go and put pdfs I pirated from bookzzz and put it on a kindle, look up dictionary words as I go export them to anki seemlessly and then study them in anki? Won't amazon give me shit for reading pirated books or something like this? If this really works that well I'm actually considering getting an e-reader.
