For a really long time, I absolutely hated escort quests. I honestly don't know how many versions of the game I went through before learning not to bother with them until I could fight off the ambush. So much worse than the monster sweep quests.

Yeah you can do those quests with faith. I started passing them by preaching around 60 faith, to grind up to the cap for my yacatect coin. I've gained like 50 ranks in a month thanks to those quests

I'm trying it out after seeing this post, performer and faith skills both at around 80. Preaching seems to be not even half as effective as ensemble with a large group. You'd need an extremely high faith in order to reliably beat higher $ party time quests, while with ensemble you can easily punch many tiers above your skill and get max music tickets. Good for training will though, faith has a use outside of partying, and it also trains your pets' faith (basically free stat increases). It might be good for training to alternate them.

I found what this guy was talking about. These *don't* negatively affect the player and are positive attributes. Testing - equipping one of these while naked and checking bonuses on self with mirror skill before/after - revealed that it actually increases the skill like the normal boosts would have. Equipping an ''it hurts technique of light armor skill'' breastplate added +9 light armor skill, equipping the ''hurts blunt technique'' round shield added +8 blunt skill. So in conclusion these seem to be standard skill bonuses per equipment type that were either mistranslated or are planned to do something else without it being implemented yet.

It has been a while since I made any meaningful progress on my character decided by some of you. I had to waste my first wish on a magaqua. I found out later that a) a kamikaze yeek can still explode in some circumstances and b) being struck breaks their AI until I dismiss them.

After accumulating a bunch of treasure maps I like to grab the huge resolution E+ map from the wiki, jot all the locations on it, then plot a path. Now with the newly added Christmas cakes granting a 250 luck buff, you can do a ton at once without having to wait for a lucky dream (250 seems to be enough for getting Godly items nearly every chest). In December, visit all the general stores and buy up those cakes. They only give the luck bonus when eaten during that month though. They also teleport your party around you like a picnic basket, might be useful to keep a couple just for that.

If treasure chest or monster ball, the level it is generated on determines contents value, luck only serving to bump things up a quality level. This is set on chest generation so you can't just take chests with you to open them in a deep dungeon, they have to be spawned there (like with your machines). Listen to your heart. If you are not a fighter don't try fighting. If you don't have good gear doon't try fighting over your budget. As long as you care about that you won't die and therefore won't lose anything. Get used to the game mechanics little by little and then it will be smooth sailing. You should have a few levels by then. What you want to do early is harvesting missions and delivery/ escort missions (Not the ones where you fight assassins). Get travelling as a skill no matter what you start as, it helps with everything.

Yo, I've been having some trouble upgrading my gear.
I have multiple items worth over 10k to trade with other adventurers and 150k in cash, but finding a decent gun worth over 20k in the shop/on other adventurers is proving difficult.
What do I do?

well, have you tried getting a precious gun? mani gives apretty sweet one once you have high enough favor with him.

gunmanship. its a weapon skill but its a skill like any other
faith. with many it boosts anything youll want as a gunner
armor/healing

those were a must. you may also consider negotaitons, magic device, control magic and the various craftings but the previous ones are what youll need to punch trough boss monsters higher than your level simply by holding f.

also, train cooking and gardening untill you can at least herb.

They're not very far apart, though you know character levels don't say very much. I tallied their stats (STR+CON+DEX etc.) and with the highest at ~1800 total, everyone else is in a range of 100 from the highest. For damage, the strongest can deal 20k with a gauge attack and everyone else only a couple thousand less except the fairy, who is new. And because of that, he's tagged to the strongest. Highest AP earned is 10k and everyone is in a range of 2k from that. If you plan it out a little and make use of tag, it's not that tough to keep them almost equal (especially when you get to the point in the game where you can earn AP).

So apparently multiwielding also has a damage bonus now? When did this happen?

I don't see how that exact enemy calls for a back up element.
I mean only resistant to Magic makes it extremely squishy to everything else, which basically means your pets should eat through it extremely quickly. And you should only ever start encountering enemies this strong after you're already good on your main role and get some few magics under your belt for ease of life.

first off, most of my pets left at the dayca- i mean, the dojo. those pets i got reletively late.
second off, the can't grow if the don't do anything and they can't do anything because I kill everything so all they can do is be cute and cheer for me.
lastly, one of the pets got cheeky and managed to get higher marksmenship than me so i cut down on her allowance and (herb) sharing diet. she still has less damage than me cuz she got lulwy bow while got a living balista, but who does she think she is?

i do give them all +10 weapons ammos and claws.... but I gave myself those at +15.

A +10 living weapon with full artifact fusion kitted out is generally sufficient as far as "general use" goes in that it'll still be better than standard godly equipment. There's really no need to push it up to +15, though the bleeding itself isn't all that problematic (I'm not sure about ultra late game - like the 5k+ range)

As far as "unusable" goes it largely depends on your stats and build. Honestly when I tried running dual wield spears (spears used to be one of the easiest living weapons to get aside from swords - maybe it still is, I haven't tested it that much to be honest), I had one of my spears boosted into the blood sucking limit and it wasn't something that led to mass deaths.

I am curious though, if anyone has ever tried using an old version living weapon and porting it over to a more recent patch, since old version living weapons were pretty ridiculous.

I made some artifact weapons using the pot for fusion crafting and they all sucked. Is there some kind of trick to getting higher quality items from it?

High luck stat in-game and a little real life luck. If crafting with the +777 luck buff from the dream, you will often get godly rank and living weapons. But even the +250 from cake will help (got living axe for pet and godlies with only the 250). With luck below that I would save my stardust, and regardless it is always possible your batch is full of garbage. Back when mass crafting by holding down the button was possible, most crafted items would also be shop fodder.

After spending more time adventuring with my kamikaze yeek I have a few observations. Any sort of damage has a chance to mess them up. Even being poisoned. I think the game tries to force them to use the suicide attack for every action. I'm no programmer so I got a snail's chance in Palmia to figure out what's happening. It could be worse though. At least nobody told me to pick a cleaner as my pet.

Also I got up to level 18 and neither of us have a name beyond "snail" and "kamikaze yeek". Suggestions?

In all likelihood, because the kamikaze yeek only has several choices as far as actions go, it's probably just doing a suicide counter on every hit and if the counter returns true then the yeek blows up.

If specific pet commands still work in Elona Custom, maybe try setting up a macro to shift away from it? I've never tried running suicidal pets and I dunno how well Elona Custom has kept up with development, so I dunno if it would work exactly.

I got a pet carmilla, but she doesn't seem to have any spells despite being a Wizard class. Is there any way to make use of her magic-related stats? Also, a recent update involved setting flavour text for the player character like the "expands a magic circle" when imps cast, can you modify that for pets? Carm gets it when she uses Drain Blood, which makes no sense in context.

This is why you frequently back up your folder, friendo. I am also playing loss mode and I got the habit of backing up after every couple sessions of play, as one power outage or crash can fuck you up. But even if crash-free, I lost many characters of ~Lv40 and under due to simply dying like a chump before finally getting a successful one in the last try. Don't let it get to you and blame the game, you should know what you're getting into when boarding the pain train.

The ''penalty on abnormal save loading'' seems to be unique to Elona though, with traditional roguelikes there's usually only a backup that's activated in the event of a crash. Natural mode also has the penalty. Slapping the player in the face for crashes aside, it's a pretty good way to force fair play.

Are there any yandere elements I can add to the game? Stuff I don't have to make myself.

This is the kind of game for it. Shades allow you to have a ''reserve'' of various creatures which saves you time. You can engineer them for skills as mentioned, but also if you find a shade of a creature you want multiple of or had a hard time finding (e.g. fire ent for resistance/carpentry), you can take out that shade and breed it in turn to get the NPC it is mimicking.

Some unique NPCs that produce shades have a high breed power despite being high level. Pascal is level 65 and has a breed power of 216, allowing you to use her shades to quickly bump up pets to that level and also granting you access to many handy creatures Lv65 and under. Lastly for those squeamish about slave trade/gene engineering when playing a character that's supposedly good, shades are just mindless shadows mimicking something but with no substance of their own, so putting them in the gene grinder could be considered less unethical.

however, when his little sister Usha who was married off to the Yerles was killed by the anti-Eulderna faction there, he tortured the Yerles inside his country and fed them to livestock. Now owns a Yerles slave dressed up as Usha. Pets her head when they are alone.

Frinn/Frineuna
Elea girl who lived tens of years ago, before the Yerles-Eulderna war. The Elea were already ostracized at this point. Toured countries as goodwill embassador. Mischievious, lively girl.


Shet/Shentarl/Valius
Friends with Frinn. First spoke to her when she was sketching her cat "Watermelon". Frinn left for Zanan - but when she came back she had lost all her liveliness and would not even speak. Apparently she had encountered a scary monster in her trip, and Shet swears to become her knight to protect her. Later, he realizes that it wasn't literally a monster (also thanks to hints from Fear/Moltan), and he sees the truth when he joins Frinn on one of her yearly trips to Zanan. Upon his return to Vindale, he borrows Fear's dark powers (?) and kills the elders who had knowingly sent Frinn to her "goodwill" trips. He then discards his name and leaves the forest.

On the night that Shet learns of the truth, Frinn drugs Shet and sleeps with him. Frinn is pregnant with Shet's child (Larnneire) at this point, and she leaves for the Valley of Sorrow. Vindale bow and ether dagger are the traditional weapons of the vindale "priestess" and her guardian.

Fear/Moltan/Kal-Essien/etc
Iron Watchman
The Elea don't like spilling blood, and they can't exactly let their insane loose upon the rest of the world by exiling them, so they incarcerate criminals in an underground cage. Fear is a scary dude who guards them, and there are many rumours surrounding him such as him being a criminal himself, etc. Meets Shet when Shet attempts to sneak in to talk to a former guard who got locked up for some reason after accompanying one of Frinn's "goodwill" visits.

I feel that Port Kurualm made more sense, largely because of Zanan and Lothria being rather militaristic/flawed nations. Kurualm would be the safer port that would still technically be close to other kingdoms.

But geography aside the worldbuilding in elona is fascinating. Especially when considering the spread of the Vindale forest (and by extension the "core" of the Etherwind before the end of act 1) versus the "heart" of the Meshera - which, in some ways, can be seen as the central conflict of the world at large (not the people, since basically everyone is at war during Sierre Terre)

Your stats are trained while you are picking up the produce, that is to say during the turns you are pulling them out. The reward for the quest improves up to a max of 3x the weight asked, so if the goal is 40s, gathering up to 120s gives you a slightly better reward and beyond 120s doesn't do anything except train your stats. Personally I love the palace, it's so huge you can make it into like a little town, you got a lake to the north you can spiff up (maybe put a shrine in there), and on the outside you can clear away the gay maze and have big green flower fields, more water or a forest.

I read about and have been scared of fighting Nine Head Dragon for a long time, due to its ability to blast your entire party with Divine Stream. I thought I was doing some side quest, but only realized when I was already on the island that it was THAT quest. So I start fighting through the horde of creatures in fearful anticipation of the boss, ready to bolt should things turn sour. But only a short while later, the victory chime rings. Goda apparently teleported behind it offscreen, beat it to death, then ate it

tl;dr:
Having a positive karma will reduce the amount of tax you have to pay by 5% per 5 positive karma, to the maximum of 40% if you have used the Secret Treasure of the Saint that gives you +20 maximum karma. Negative karma will not increase taxes.
At -30 Karma and below, guards will attack you, preventing you from safely visiting any cities other than Derphy.
