Me too. I'm planning on sewing, maybe some woodworking, and taking pictures to post here and on twitter.

I have a weird question but not sure where to ask since I’m not finding the info on Google. Is there a site or forwarding service that I can order a Dollybird, Dolly Japan, or other doll magazine subscription from, and have it sent to me in US? Would prefer DB over others. I can find places offering a list of mags but never doll ones, and my local import place is hit or miss with having the newest ones.

>>18137514
You can just subscribe to a Magazine and have them ship to any mail redirection service like Tenso, FromJapan and so forth. Then just do the redirect whenever a new issue arrives. This is no different that receiving parcels. The only hurdle is going to be payment if you are unable to subscribe to the said magazine without using a Japanese credit card (but that's another issue and it can be solved too).

I'm joining you guys in this. I take a photo or two every 4-6 weeks for Instagram, but it's never anything interesting. I want to really get in the hobby and actually focus on it. This is going to be the first year ever where I have neither school nor work stress. I'm in a good job that really likes me, and they said they'd love to have me around for the next 4-5 years at least. I can't use muh stress as an excuse anymore. I have to make things, even if I suck. Let's have a great year and treat our dolls right, anons!

You mean their new standard models? I think they look fantastic. It's really cool how they all have their own head sculpts. I would seriously consider getting Towa if I had any interest in titty monsters, but I just really don't want a Dynamite. I like Karin's faceup a lot except for her bright orange eyebrows, and Liliru is pretty cute too. When I'm ready to get an MDD, I'll think about getting her if I want to be cheap.

How easy would it be to recolour Karin's eyebrows? She's basically perfect for the doll I want to make.

>> No.18145368

>>18144853
Personally I would send her to someone to do it. The most I have done is add a little to one of my dolls mouths to give her a soft smile from her default neutral look. I definitely could not try more years of painting Warhammer have shown me I am not skilled in that.

Also there is removel of the old eye brows or even if you just paint over them then you still need to seal them. Just thinking about it is so stressful.

I think I'd eventually want to get a doll, but I would want a custom one, but I don't fully trust them to create a doll that would 100% live up to my expectations.

Don't think to hard. But don't think too little. I have learned "perfect" takes many forms.

I over thought Cake and well she is my favourite.

Waffles was a impulse buy that I was going to sell but fell in love.
Cherry was also over thought as was a disaster, but a new head fixed her up. That head went on to become Cookie.

Tofu was bought in Japan. Had many wig and outfits but I feel I have nailed her look. unsurprisingly she is very Japanese looking.

Strawberry was to be a witch becuse I love that outfit, but I said I would never buy a MDD!?! After she lost the witch outfit, It took over a year but I feel I have nailed her look finally.

Maple is a smart doll becuse it's the only place to get darker skinned girls. She got a lot of cakes old clothes becuse she looks better in them.

Cookie is the old cherry head combined with the witch outfit and a Obitsu body to make a girl that is always un happy.

Snow Miku was a mistake. I am sorry Miku you deserve better then my closet!

And then there is Pumpkin, I fucking love pumpkin.

And soon there will be a new food girl becuse I have wanted a freckled girl forever and I can't say no to that fucking smartdoll.

So the "perfect" doll can come in a number of ways and yah you can make mistakes that's why the most important peace of advice I can give is take your time and think things over. Just don't over think find that balance!

>> No.18168866

>>18168588
Also I should add. You can't make your perfect doll.
You could take a head you like wig you like combine it with a body you like and put and outfit on it, and that would be creating in away that is what Cake, Cherry, Strawberry, Cookie, and Pumpkin are.

But if you mean get the parts and make the doll including casting, faceup, joints, sewing clothes. No you can't do that. Not on your first try, I know you lack these skills becuse you have no Idea how hard it will be or how much it will cost.

So the answer could truly be, very hard and it would cost a lot. Becuse you would have to make many dolls and learn many skills. Plus you would need to buy many of the tools and items to make it. Yes eventually with enough time and money you could learn the skills and make that perfect doll, but she is probably just waiting for you to find her made by somebody else.

Hey Doll thread (is there a shorter collective name for this general?). How universal are wig caps? Eg, will a Volks large head cap fit an Azone AZO2 head? Since Volks has a store in the city it would be easy to just pick one up versus ordering online.

I'd test to see if it works well enough for you, but Ai's wig is so ridiculously tight and difficult to get on straight and I don't want to go through that again. It's pretty likely to be way too big, though. Azone heads are quite a bit smaller than DDs.

>perfect
I knew I should've expanded on what I meant here. I meant "perfect to me", and it already exists (my longtime OC). All that's left is to make it into a doll.
Thanks for your insight, I believe "perfect" is very subjective from one to another and I probably should've worded things differently to avoid misunderstandings and explain what I meant better.

>But if you mean get the parts and make the doll including casting, faceup, joints, sewing clothes. No you can't do that. Not on your first try, I know you lack these skills becuse you have no Idea how hard it will be or how much it will cost.
You're most likely right here.
>So the answer could truly be, very hard and it would cost a lot. Becuse you would have to make many dolls and learn many skills. Plus you would need to buy many of the tools and items to make it.
I think I got my answer, that would indeed end up being much more expensive than ordering a custom made one. Thanks.
>Yes eventually with enough time and money you could learn the skills and make that perfect doll, but she is probably just waiting for you to find her made by somebody else.
The will to make it myself is stronger though, so I think I'd be ready the spend years learning and working on it rather than taking the shortcut.

Not to stomp your dream or anything, but it's just not practical to try and build a doll entirely from the ground up when there's enough variety on the market to probably shell the body at the very least. If you research enough, you might find the perfect body, or one that you could modify to look the way you want. The same goes for heads, you can by one SIMILAR to your vision and carve away or mod it until it does fit your requirements.

What I'm trying to say is that you might not want to model and cast an entirely new doll because it's possibly to HEAVILY modify existing bodies. Look into resin bodies made by different companies to see if something similar to your ideal exists, and then look and see if you could sand down parts of it to fit the character better. Check out heads from different places and see if sanding or additive mods would be a good idea. In the long run it's cheaper and you're probably looking at more professional quality.

1/6 is actually closer to Pure Neemo territory (they're more or less in the same height range). Good luck getting the hands to grip the weaponry though.

I've actually bought from that site before, they're local. People do make a business of buying tactical guys and part them out like what happened to dolls.

Pictured was my attempt at getting a Pure Neemo hand to hold a 1/6 P226.

>I guess that's a good question, what scale IS a 50cm doll?
1/3 actually. Funny thing is Dollfies would scale up to roughly 180cm tall, while Azone 48s/50s (plus 2cm from their heads) would hit 150cm to 156cm tall, which is close to the average height of a Japanese girl.

>there's still plenty of guns out there
Good luck finding a Dragon 1/3 Glock 17, you might need to import it from some shop in Europe that doesn't even have a functioning site. I was lucky to score a couple of guns from the "Combat Gun File The Beretta" set, which you can see in >>18168170

Long arms are on a weirder situation, since you're mostly restricted to M16/M4 variants and AKs for most part. Bought a set of the Trumpeter guns, they need some amount of work to look decent.

I wonder if having joined fingers would actually be beneficial in this situation.

Those die-cast guns usually aren't great for dolls because they're too heavy for DDs to keep them held up. There's an AK-74 out there that's just light enough, though.

I'm really looking forward to making my own tactical gear soon. I even have a folder full of images of others' work to use as reference/steal. Just need to buy an iron and then learn how to sew a few normal things first.

Mostly aesthetic reasons. Their head sculpts thus far have all been pretty awkward unless you look at them from the right angles. I haven't handled one myself, but also some people have said they feel cheaper and more fragile than DDs and Azones.

Personally, I just hate the cult of Danny Choo more than anything. Aesthetics are what's most important in a doll but also completely subjective, so I'm fine if people just love their Smart Dolls. When they start idolizing Danny Choo, attributing way too much to him when he's basically the ideas guy, it's really gross.

You could say almost the same thing about doing faceups or making clothes or any of a number of other doll related diy projects. It all depends on how much work you're willing to put into it. If that's not your thing then no big deal but I don't really see anything inherently wrong with injection molded snap fit body parts.

Bigger things I would want to know before passing judgement are do the dolls come pre-assembled or do they come unassembled like a plamo kit? And what's the price? If it's an unassembled kit at a reasonable price I could see it being an interesting project. On the other hand if it's fully assembled with very little extra work done and it's only slightly less expensive compared to a vinyl doll I could see it not being worth it. I don't really follow these things so I don't know if either of those questions have actual answers yet.

>> No.18251354

>>18251294
I've never handled a big high quality plamo or anything, but I'm not convinced these SmD's will even feel like they're worth $300. Is $200 of that just for the honour of buying something from God Himself?

I understand that prices will be inflated because it's a niche market and that's just the way it's gotta go, but if your cheap-ass product isn't actually cheap what's the point?

>> No.18251445

>>18251354
If they really are $300 then I wouldn't see them being worth it unless they're fully assembled with seams removed right out of the box. I'll admit that as someone who's into plamo as well as dolls they seemed interesting but I can't see it for that price. I'll stick to frame arms girls and other kits for my moe plamo fix.

> just fill
Have you ever done any gapfilling? unless you refinish the entire surface "just filling" them won't make them go away.

>> No.18251685

>>18251647
I don't think anyone ever implied that was all there is to it or that it was a super easy thing to do. And yes I have done it. I've been into plamo for much longer than I've been into dolls.

>> No.18252480

>>18251685
Then you know you don't "just fill" it and it's definitely not for everyone, so why even suggest it?

>> No.18252541

>>18251685
I don't see how the process of puttying it up/sanding escess would work with dolls considering you're not supposed to paint them.
Or wait, are they actual hard fragile plastic now? Like 1/3 busou shinki or FAGs? Jesus.

No only the new sub line of smartdolls will be plastic. They still sell the vinyl ones.

I never did suggest that people "just fill it" or say that it was for everyone.
Maybe you you should reread some of the comments you replied to. I said specifically here

The person I was replying to was saying that filling seams took time and a certain amount of skill, I was just pointing out that so do a lot of other things in this hobby but that doesn't necessarily mean they're bad things.

So if this gets sold anyone interested? Becuse I won't it's too big I like 1/3 scale it's perfect.

Hahah what am I saying you guys wouldn't get it becuse it's a flat faced Choo slut.

But seriously I seem to remember seeing a 1/2 scale doll on display somewhere in akiba when I was there. It's just a step too far.

Do any of you have any male dolls and would you mind posting them? What's usually the best body for a male doll? I already have a female planned out but a male doll eludes me

>> No.18259797

>>18259513
there aren't any male animu vinyl dolls worth mentioning, and for questions about resin you might want to try /toy/s thread, there are more resin owners there (though most people crossboard I suppose)

Despite what people say here Smart dolls are not terrible. I would look at the male dolls he sells and see if they are what you want. If not you will probably have to check out the /toy/ doll thread and look into resin.

I wasnt really looking in a smart doll but a SDD/DD from Volks, I wish I gotten into this hobby properly sooner than just watching from the sidelines because they made one I really like how he looks but of course he's a limited exclusive run and sold out, so I thought the next best thing was making my own.

>Ren

Did you mean Len? I did want him but Rin is sold out and if I get one I have to get the other they are a pair for me.

>>18259958
I'm not quite interested in that line.

>>18260221
They are too short sadly, MDD or DD/SDD as above is somewhat I'm looking for but even the flattest torso is still visible female sadly. I just want to make a cute set of twins, I thought about ordering the twins they have at the store right now but I'm not too fond of their looks.

Yes. Almost always seeing him referred to as レン (and 錬) made me forget that his name is spelled with an L. Thanks for correcting me.

>if I get one I have to get the other they are a pair for me.
Well, I can understand that. They had her in stock again for a short time period in December or November (I think), I doubt that it's going to happen again but maybe you can still find her offered on other sites.
If you decide to make one yourself, good luck, unfortunately don't know much about male dolls, so I can't help you.
