I think motion capture is probably important because the "virtual" part of the name "virtual youtuber" obviously refers to "virtual reality". A 2D animated character has little to do with virtual reality.

Needing to be 3D might be part of general opinion on the matter, but that has nothing to do with being virtual. You could theoretically have a 2D virtual reality.

Anyway, it's probably not of much overall importance unless more things that toe the line get introduced into the threads and it starts becoming an issue.

(Again, I have no stake in this and don't really care either way. I do find the question 'what constitutes a virtual youtuber?' interesting though, since people seem to have differing ideas about definitions.)

Some interesting things.
Shiro handles almost all social media interactions.
Basic policy is Shiro decides what she wants to do (she likes games so games is what is uploaded)
3 million yen initial investment for the tech and labor costs. 1 month to prepare the recording environment with the tech and Unity. Designing the 3D model took 2-3 weeks, was done in-house.
10 crew members that all share roles and all can give their input on the project.
A big focus of the project is speed. As little as 8 hours from planning to uploading on Youtube.1 hour planning, 1 hour shooting, 4-5 hours editing. (Explains the daily uploads)
