GGs. Dash + C lets you do a graze attack with most characters, it's useful for when you opponent is spamming projectiles. Try to use a combination of both projectiles and physical attacks to trap your opponent. You should really block more too.
I'd recommend you look at the SWR wiki but it seems to be down indefinitely .
Also, Esc quits out of netplay matches.

Just practice a bit and you'll be better in no time.

What's up with the sudden resurgence of interest in SWR anyway? Not that I am complaining, or anything. I'm happy to see a lot of new players, but hopefully more stick around. It seems like a lot of the mechanics are opaque and people miss out on them.
So I kind of feel like holding a tutorial/help session, but don't know how many people might be interested. How to do it is also a point of interest, I'd be fine doing it on Ventrilo or IRC.
Would anyone actually be interested in something like that?

I tried SWR a little when it first came out, thought it was cool but didn't play much. I've been waiting for my swap magic disc to arrive so I can play F/UC on my PS2, im not happy with how it runs in pcsx2. SWR is scratching that fightan game itch in the meantime while I wait for the swap magic disc to come. I suck at SWR though.

I wish people felt the same way about Immaterial and Missing Players. Nobody wants to play that game because it's got a 90 degree learning curve, even though it's a much better Touhou fighter IMO.

Tutorial would be about general strategy and explaining the how and why of pressuring. A lot of people don't use bullets to force the opponent to graze and follow it physically, instead using bullets as a spray and pray proxy attack hoping for it to hit.
Also many people don't understand the way pressure works with the sort of speed chess match that goes on with physical, bullet, spellcards, graze-attacks, wrongblocking and border escapes.

Hum, I downloaded SWR from http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84564&page=2 and it didn't need to be installed or have any .iso, but I downloaded all the patches and the same error message displays for all. The game itself still runs though, so it probably isn't the usual directx thing. Is there any way to check what the current version you have is?

actually thats becuase a name is corrupt, I heard that if you switch your locale, (dont remember wich american or jap depends) the error might go away. It has something to do with a file name in gibberish that the computer reads so I'd try that first. But as for the .iso file I got mine from Nyaatorrents. (it appears to be gone so I might just try to megaupload it for you guys)Try sitching locales then updating first though. (The mounter I use is virtual clone drive.)

Goddamn, can you guys tell your skill levels when hosting? I keep getting my ass severely kicked. Not just, "Oh, he's on a losing streak" ass-kicking, but I mean, "Oh man, after 5 perfect losses, I finally landed a single bullet on him! The match also lasted much longer than 20 seconds this time!"

youmu is a close range fighter, you shouldnt be staying at the opposite end of the screen especially since just about every other character has better projectiles. learn to cover your entry with bullets etc.

if you'd like to get better, i suggest you go to http://swr.mizuumi.net/index.php/Main_Page and learn more about your character of choice's combos etc. just learning one or two can help a whole lot.

What is the best character for aggressive play? So far, Youmu and Komachi seemed the best ones, but I couldn't hit anything with the soft half-ghost. And Komachi had a huge blind spot.

Best for aggressive gameplay definitely has to be Aya or Marisa IMO. In the least, I absolutely hate playing those two guys who main these characters. So overwhelmingly fast and powerful that it's hard for me to do much of anything.
