I have seen Ama-chan and Asa ga kita. I have dropped Mare after ~80 episodes. Now I am watching Hiyokko and I also really liked it earlier, but now am struggling to finish last 10 episodes. I didn't have this problem with Ama-chan and Asa ga kita, but Mare bored me even earlier (I also don't really like the main actress there), so I would say it happens, but not always.

Has anyone here seen Zankokuna Kankyakutachi? The premise sounds really interesting:
Set in the near future, a high school gives priority to privacy protection. The names of teachers and students are not revealed. 21 female high school students are locked in a classroom and their vision is shown all over the world in real time. The only way to escape is to receive many "good" marks from the audience.

Please look at the archives and tell me when was the last time we had a thread, let alone a general, dedicated to discussion of the contents of TV DRAMAs. Don't thinly veil your JDrama recommendation thread by calling it a "TV and movie general". Variety shows like Gaki or idol events are at least related to Japanese culture and tokusatsu or kaijus already have a home on >>>/m/ but just because it's Japanese does not make it otaku culture.

They sometimes have featured torrents on the front page. They're free downloads and give double the upload credit so just seed those. None right now, so you can just download a bunch of the small sized torrents and gain those bonus points.

How new are you to /jp/? We've had sporadic drama threads on /jp/ for years. It was never very active and would sometimes 404 before reaching bump limit. Now that we have more regular activity (which shows there are more people interested and willing to post) this thread will pop up more often, maybe even becoming a persistent thread.

It is absolutely Japanese culture and belongs on /jp/ more than any other board. The move to /tv/ was discussed many months back and it was decided that we would not be received well over there, nor would we have as many potential weebs to join us as we would on /jp/.

If it triggers you so much for other people to enjoy talking about Japanese drams in the Japanese culture board then you can just hide the thread and never have to see it again.

Here have a fast search of this line of threads that continues from april: https://arch.b4k.co/jp/search/subject/movie%20and%20tv/
There were also some threads before that, but I'm not gonna bother searching further. Also after discussing it in previous threads, we changed the name of this one to general.
>Don't thinly veil your JDrama recommendation thread by calling it a "TV and movie general".
Drama's aren't the only thing that's discussed in this thread, though they are predominant. In this thread, there are discussed movies ("Mugen no juunin" in this thread for example). There are also other things. Some anon asked some time ago about documents on everyday Japanese live or something like that.
>Variety shows like Gaki or idol event
Not every show is big enough to have a thread of its own, and sometimes people who want to watch them aren't really coming from the other side of a fanbase. I, for example, caught interest in idols after watching AKBingo.
>but just because it's Japanese does not make it otaku culture.
Definition of otaku from dictionary.com: "an avid collector or enthusiast, esp. one who is obsessed anime, video games, or computer and rarely leaves home". I spend a lot of time watching Japanese movies, dramas and variety shows, to the point that calling it an obsession is not so absurd. Or do you want to take this more common definition of otaku as someone who likes Japanese stuff, and counter your own argument? What would a thread have to be so that you would classify it as otaku culture?

I don't really get the problem people have with this thread. There are people who post in it regularly. The discussion here usually keeps some norms. It's not that fast so it doesn't take that much space. Do you really need that much more space for another Touhou thread?

I am looking for martial arts/combat sports themed dramas/movies. The mood can range from comedy to tragedy, but I would to fights and training scenes to be realistic if that's possible. I would prefer modern setting, but that's not a must. Also, I need English subs as my Japanese is still poor.
I have seen stuff like Holyland and Aijou Ippon, but I would prefer something more focused on martial arts themselves. Something like the manga All Rounder Meguru.
Any recommendations?

But to answer your question, let's split it in two:
1.Why not in runes:
-not everyone here speaks japanese,
-switching to japanese keyboard or having to copy the title is bothersome,
-looking them up by romaji leads to sites in english.
2.Why not in english:
-some people watch them in japanese and don't know english titles,
-quite often there is more than one translation of the titles (related to the fact that lots of stuff is funsubbed)

>if some people can't read runes it's not like the vast majority of those same people can read it in roman script either...
It's a title, you don't need to know the meaning, all you need to share information about what show you are talking easily. Romaji titles appear on most sites, while translations vary. Example: Higurashi no Ki (蜩ノ記) depending on the site can be translated as "A samurai Chronicle" or "Chronicle of the Evening Cicadas " (or combination).

it's definitely not what you'd expect. might be frustrating for some people bc of its unconventionality, but watching the heroine be put into increasingly absurd situations was pretty compelling for me. and the ideas it plays with about reality and storytelling were done in a way I haven't seen before.

for example the trailer is a little misleading, but the fact that it's misleading is a part of and even addressed in the film.

How good is this?

>> No.18049500

>>18043297
>How do they have powers?
This was never answered, or at least it's not really important. In the flashbacks with Urachi's parents, the Bureau founders, it was implied that the whole world just suddenly woke up with abilities, but his father removed all knowledge of it from the world using his, and his mother constrained that knowledge to only Sakurada. That's why if you leave, you forget.

>What's the purpose of the bureau chiefs parents being frozen?
They were kept in stasis so that they would never die, which would lead to their abilities losing effect (and everyone in the world suddenly remembering abilities). That's why Urachi's plan was to only wake up his mother, which led to his father's ability being effective everywhere, even Sakurada, wiping the knowledge of ability from existence.

>How will kei lead his new bureau?
The anime never goes this far, it ends when he and Urachi agreeing to work together to find the best solution to controlling the abilities, not just wiping them out.

>How do they still have photos when the photo man left?
They kept a few, and if you mean the very last one Haruki opened after everyone's memories were wiped, there was a part where Souma sends Kei a message to give his favourite book to Haruki, and in it he hid one last picture. So when the Bureau asked him with the lady with the lie detecting ability, he was able to honestly say he did not have any of them left.

>How does reset girl get to remember everything by just entering the photo?
Because the photo was taken at a time where abilities still existed in Sakurada, so she remembered. That's why the Bureau wanted the photos gone.

Glad I could help.
If you're still curious I'd recommend watching the anime. It's medium length at 24 episodes but worth it if you enjoyed the general story and character interactions and want to see it a bit more in depth. No filler either since every episode eventually ties into the main plot and/or develops the characters. For a light novel anime adaptation it was very tightly written and competently directed, in my opinion. I don't involve myself much in anime communities, but I have the impression that it went underappreciated and under the radar for the most part.
Can't say anything about the original source though, as I haven't read it.

I have just finished Sanada Maru. I rather enjoyed it, but I don't quite understand why was the protagonist praised so much. He ultimately didn't really achieve anything. Toyotomi failed. Ieyasu lived. (Not really his fault, because Toyotomi kind of brought it on themselves, but still...)

For Taiga dramas I recommend musashi. Its probably more in line with what you want to watch since its pretty much a story of how musashi becomes a legendary samurai and the people he fights and meets throughout his journey. Its pretty old but they should have the whole series subbed if you look hard enough. Another one I recommend is Ryomaden but a lot of plotting is involved in that show.

Do not, I repeat, do not waste your time watching Moteki.

While Mirai Moriyama does a good job acting, the protagonist is ultimately an unlikable manchild who throws away every open opportunity for romance, but then spends the rest of his time lamenting how horny he is. After a promising first two episodes, the plot dovetails into one girl's route and pretty much stays there for the duration of the show. What would have worked nicely, either as a formulaic 'girl of the week' or a full on romantic comedy drama, instead finds a halfway house - the plot is convoluted, the protagonist can't decide between sex and love, and ultimately ends up with neither. Maybe the movie has a decent resolution but I probably won't see it. I would say don't waste your time with this one.

That depends.

A movie set in modern or present time are pretty good.

Movies that are SF or Heroes are pretty much Anime/Manga/Game franchises.
These are all over the place some are GREAT like ff15 kingsglaive
and some not so good like Gatchaman (2013).

Classic theme (Samurai, Edo period)
Those are pretty good, but old stuff still stands the test of time.

I would disagree with this. While there is a lot that's similar, there's also a whole lot that's different. Just for example, the dating culture.
