I did it that way and had hiragana down in one day, katakana in three, now I only have to look up like a word per paragraph on average while reading adult-level stuff and it's only been three months.

Of course it's also a pain in the ass to do, but it works.

It largely depends on how good your memory is and how long it took to grasp the grammar (and how many NEEThours you spend per day, of course.)

I'm also a fan of the "look up every term while reading" approach, although it took me a lot longer than 3 months. I did finish 2 routes from Shingakkou within my first 8 months learning, I could trudge through more difficult texts, and I'm pretty sure I was already reading dialog-heavy comedy/nukige only occasionally looking up some obscure word. A few years later I don't need a text hooker, or subs in most cases.
I feel it's still worth doing reps for the basic vocabulary when you start (the 2000-words list) because you'll see them pop up while reading which helps cement them in long-term memory. Audio and context really, really help me memorize and voiced VNs are great for that.
Larger lists seem unpractical simply because the time it takes to do large amounts of new cards every day and the mountains of reps that come with that, it takes literal years to work through them.

That's another thing. I deliberately didn't use a text hooker because I figured it would be easier to remember the kanji if I looked them up the hard way, by plugging their parts into a denshi jisho.

I'm pretty sure it worked as hoped. At least, even when I encounter words I don't know it usually only takes me a couple seconds to guess their meaning from the kanji now. (Though I still have to look up the pronunciation a lot...)

I bought the Yoshiwara Higanbana vita port for Tatsukichi but is his best end depressing as hell or what. It's almost as sad as Souichiro's "Promise of a Distant Day," which is the end you have to get to unlock this route in the first place.

Years later, Rin gets infected with tuberculosis. She becomes weaker and weaker as her life nears its end but Tatsukichi makes his long awaited return to "kidnap" her, just in time. They spend her last moments living together, with him intent on following along after.

Tatsukichi: "I wanted to share the same illness as you. I won't let you die alone."

At least the bgm creates a more optimistic atmosphere because they deserved to be happy. But I guess for that short time they *were* together, she was.

1st episode of new season to follow Touken Danshi as they celebrate New Year's Eve

The official website for the Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru anime revealed the key visual and January 7 start date on Saturday for the show's second season, Zoku Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru.


The anime will premiere on Tokyo MX and BS11 at midnight on January 7 (effectively January 8), before airing later in the evening on Kansai TV. The anime will stream on DMM.com starting on January 8.

The new season will again follow a format where each episode is named after months of the year. The first episode, titled "First Month: I Must Get Stronger," follows the "Touken Danshi" as they plan to celebrate New Year's Eve like normal people.

Tomoaki Koshida (episode director on Polar Bear's Café, Wagnaria!!3) replaces Takashi Naoya as the director, and the writing collective WriteWorks (Record of Grancrest War; production cooperation on Kizumonogatari, Tsukimonogatari) replaces Pierre Sugiura as the series script supervisors. Junichiro Taniguchi (Natsuyuki Rendezvous, Prison School) is returning to design the characters, and Doga Kobo will continue to animate for the new season.
