I got into it via fanart but I love the games even though I've yet to 1cc any of them.

I love almost everything Touhou, especially the games and music. I've even gradually grown immune to Yukkuris. Cho-Marisa and friends still scare the hell out of me though, but at least it's also hilarious.

Where are you? Most arcades will have some shmups in them, by which I mean proper arcades - if it's a few DDR and House of the Dead machines you're out of luck. But if there's fighters, there's probably something decent tucked away.

Honestly, most [proper] arcade owners will be willing to buy a cheap board if people will play it. If you're a regular, or can feign that you are, suggest ripping out some ancient POS no one plays and buying something like Mushi or (In Jan) Death Smiles. Should get their money back fast as even non-shmup fans are drawn to pretty bullet patterns and goth-loli's (remind you of something?).

The U.S. and shmups have had an interesting relationship. We practically invented the genre (Galaga, Asteroids, Space Invaders), but we haven't had a good shmup released here in over a decade that wasn't a remake of an earlier shmup, with the exception of Geometry Wars.

But, yeah. I still like Touhou for the games. But I do like the fanon, too.

Got into it when Yukkuris made it out into other parts of 4chan. Not that I read them, I just wondered where the hell they were from.

So after some reading and poking around on the 'tubes I managed to get them and got somewhat decent at them.

The doujinshi are good but I kind of feel they're not as hilarious as the Fate ones, and I kind of wish there was more grimdark stuff since it can easily go that way.
