It's still being worked on. It'll be finished, slowly but surely. So it's not unforeseeable.

Koki just posted yesterday about an attack from the boss that's currently being worked on. It looks like it's instant death, so that's not something I'll look forward to.

The chip artist is working on Mima.exe, but there's no proof she's going to be in Shanghai.exe.

>> No.17879277

>>17876758
>>17876784

Extremely basic tips:
Use spell cards, not basic attacks. The "Attack" command is almost always too weak to be worthwhile.
Take advantage of switching characters in and out. People in the back recover HP and MP over time. You also switch people in with (at least) 7500 ATB. So you can use a strong attack that resets ATB to 0, have someone else switch in a different attacker, and repeat.
Avoid those "FOE"s, the big red guys. I think the one on 2F is easier than most, but later on they're as difficult as bosses.
Explore every floor. There are items and characters to recruit scattered around, you absolutely don't want to miss them. Don't run from fights while doing this; let this exploration act as your grinding so you can kill two birds with one stone.

Also, get the translation patch! It'll probably make everything a lot easier to understand, and let you get working strategies.

Komachi is actually pretty hard, so don't be discouraged. Part of the problem is that she's an early mandatory boss so you can't get a full party, or find equipment with resistance to her DTH attacks.

It may interest you to know the PS Vita version of DoD not only includes another expansion worth of content, but also gives each party member spellcards they can use, separate from their shikigamis.

Most of the playable characters had their Last Word from previous versions re-tooled as spellcards they can use a certain number of times per mana/healing circle recharge, and received a new Last Word to compensate.

Also Sara, Satori, Tenshi and Eirin get to be playable characters.

Also also, the post post-game bosses are fuckin legit.

Akyuu is probably one of the most addicting character designs I've ever seen. Her gimmick is that she gains zero stats or abilities from leveling. Instead, her stats and abilities increase in relation to how many members of each monster family she gets the killing blow on.

Each monster family is tied to different things. For example; she gains HP/MP based on certain milestones in the Dragon family, and gains magical attacks based on the Magician family.

Dragons - HP/MP
Foreign Gods - Divine Barrier
Spirits - HP/MP regen
Giants - Strength
Youkai - Intellect
Magicians - Magical Attacks
Warriors - Physical attacks
Tsukumoni - Resistance
Birbs - Agility
Beasts - Evasion
Lizards - Dexterity
Undead - Induction
Bugs - Status magic
Ghosts - Vitality
Aquarian - Support magic
Plants - Potential

Well, yeah, it's pretty fucking stupid if you were expecting "skill-based gameplay" in a turn-based game; which, you know, aren't exactly famous for requiring the player to have high skill or fast reflexes, that much should be obvious.

>What I REALLY should have been evaluating is all the pretty shiny wow wow special effects
If you just prefer text appearing on-screen telling you how much damage you caused and received you can just turn-off the animations.

>and all the secondary memes
What secondary memes? Name me at least 5 in the main story of at least the first game.
Unless you just mean the dumb jokes and puns spouted by joke enemies like Kedamas that only appear early-game. In that case just turn-off the animations.

>and all the le bouncy aneemay tiddies!
That only applies for Keine and Meiling in the 1st game (in cut-ins that last only half a second), it was heavily toned down in later games and no other characters have anything remotely similar on those games. And even then, Keine and Meiling got far better finishers in later games.
But then again, just turn-off the animations.

The games themselves have pretty good gameplay(Well, at least the 3rd and 4th one. I'll admit that the first 2 are archaic.), you just hate it because you have a problem with the genre itself.

Other games like Disgaea, Trails in the Sky or hey, Genius of Sappheiros, actually require skill to beat. Do they have RNG? Yes, but it's not to the point where you have to savescum the same move 18 times to land a hit once at 98% accuracy, while the enemy lands it every time at 2%, and half that time packing a critical to boot. And yes, this has happened and it's indefensible fucking bullshit. At least in GoS if an item gives me star resistance to poison or whatever, then it will actually visibly make poison hit me a lot less often than otherwise.

>just turn-off the animations.
Does it turn off all the RNGshit if I do? Besides, if I turn off all the fireworks then the game would be shit, according to how you evaluate games, because then all the superflous shiny shit to trick retards into thinking what they're playing isn't trash would be gone. Meanwhile, it wouldn't improve the game any according to how I do it, because I'd still be playing RNGshit: The Game and praying to every deity that this so-called 94% accuracy attack actually hits what I'm targetting. Also there are not many reasons to savescum outside of battles like Yuuka's, which you ain't meant to beat in the first place; the game outright calls you a cheater/gameover grinder if you beat her.

Also, the only valid comparison you gave was Disgaea, comparing FMW to Trials in the Sky or GoS is like trying to judge a Hack and Slash game by a 2D fighting games standards.

FMW was never trying to be like any those games. In case you haven't noticed by the name and countless Gundam references, it's trying to be like Super Robot Wars.
Most of the gameplay and design decisions in FMW originate from SRW.

Oh yeah, the thing that runs out really quickly. And that you can't readily replenish mid-battle. That thing, right? Did you forget how long some of those battles are? Not a bad thing in and of itself, mind you, but if you're going to use spirit commands to fight the RNG then you're going to lose.

>Also there are not many reasons to savescum
RNGshit is plenty reason. Not that I expect you to understand, at this point.

The point of the comparison is that those games are all turn-based and proper positioning is a big deal (just as a refresher, GoS has the Formations, which can make or break a battle right from the word go). That much they share with FMW. The difference starts with the fact that they aren't actively trying to hamper your fun under the guise of "uhhh bad luck breh".

Also, those things you said at the bottom there, they are all really stupid. So fucking what if the messed-up design is stolen from some other game series? The only thing it means is that the origin series is trash only good for flashy effects too. Mega Mari stole the blueprints from Megaman and it didn't turn out horrible (or so I hear, at least).

Well, they are meant to be a small help to temporarily cover for some of the characters biggest weaknesses, not meant to be permanent upgrades.
For example Komachi who is fucking almost blind. If you activate Strike, for a whole turn all of her attacks will hit

>And that you can't readily replenish mid-battle
But they actually CAN be restored. Just not on the first game mind you.

If you deploy Minoriko and survives the end of each chapter she'll give you a free items that can restore SP.
Sakuya gives you tea that can also restore 30 SP too.
There's also 2 other items that restore 60 SP and 20 and +10 power respectively.
Mokou has a personal skills that restores all of her SP under special conditions.
Yuyuko has like 4 different methods of restoring SP for herself
Toyohime can restore the 50 SP of her pair once per chapter.
Shinki can has SP regen and receives 25SP at the end of every single turn while having a whole set of spirits that help the team by giving them easy Strikes and Yells and providing with a 5-spaces barrier that reduces all damage for her and her allies by 500 damage.

This only tells me that you never fucking played past the first game.
Especially becase of
>but if you're going to use spirit commands to fight the RNG then you're going to lose.
But that's literally the only fucking way you are going to beat some of the latter bosses in the last games.
Good fucking luck beating characters that can move and use MAP attacks several times per turn, completely nullify your damage completely and remove your actions without fucking using personal abilities and Spitir commands.

>What difficulty did you play the game at?
Normal. Or the Normal equivalent that's present, it's been a while.
>Did you upgrade your units' mobility and equipped items to increase hit/dodge rate?
As I recall, that shit is seriously expensive to the point where you won't be able to afford enough to make a difference unless you perfect-play everything in the first place. So there's that.
Items? lol. The item system is rubbish. You have to basically scrounge the entire map and make battles even longer and the possibility of failure higher. And you may not even GET to explore every single little square of the map before the monotony gets the better of you and you accidentally counter-attack to death whatever enemies remain. It's just a pain in the ass all around unless you have a guide, and if I have to use a guide for a game then the enjoyability goes down immensely.

You know what would have been a better system? Label the squares with items (like how Jeanne d'Arc does it), but place them in dangerous or annoying locations. I can't blame the game for missing items that would have made it bearable if I knew they were there but made the choice not to grab them. Well I guess I can still do that due to guides but again, I shouldn't NEED a guide.
>Are you focusing to minimize the mobility penalties?
That didn't have that much of an effect from what I can remember. Not only in the percentages themselves, but there's also the fact that even if it makes dodging easier, you still take damage from it. And you have the enemies that can kill you in one hit, like Flandre, so reducing damage to 10% (?) is not that much help. In the end it boils down to a choice between a fast death and a slow death.
To be positive though, it's a nice system in theory and I'm sure it would have been awesome if the RNG wasn't so fucked.

>Do you also think Fire Emblem and X-COM are RNGshit?

First impressions:

Hard mode: Fun and challenging. At first I was a little off-put due to failing the first map my first try. However, I adapted by waiting till the third turn to engage the enemies, doubling the effectiveness of Nitori's guard ability since it let her tank/retaliate against 6 attacks with a single use, and using Marisa's 6 range laser to out-space Momi allowed me to clear the first map and it's bonus objective without using my healing item. This same kind of thinking carried over into the next maps.

Normal mode: No advanced tactics or knowledge of spawn locations required for victory. If you find this challenging, you might want to re-consider the core aspects of your approach to SRPGs.

The RNG in this game is in no way overtunned. Just like every single Super Robot Wars game: effective use of spirits, spacing, timing, and items combined with a solid understanding of strategy games in general will always see a player through the mission.

I won't say you need to "git gud", since you're clearly an experienced SRPG player. I will say you need to Git Better. Similar to playing a SMUP game on normal, the normal setting on FMW Scarlet was pretty much an auto-pilot experience that only asks for a solid grasp of the fundamentals.

Definitely going to play through to the end on hard though. Totally forgot this series existed.

>The first one's so very rough around the edges and having really questionable design decisions and a big pile of utterly useless units.
Fortunately, from the second game and onwards you keep recruiting more and more characters as chapters progress (unlike the first game, where you stop recruiting characters after like the first 6 or 7 chapters).

By the last game every unit in the game (outside of Komachi and to a certain extent Sakuya who both got shafted) is pretty fucking good, that or at least they have a few niches to make themselves useful.
There IS a big powertrip between recruitable characters in the 3rd and 4th game, who completely overshadow the characters from the first 2 games in terms of usefulness, I ain't gonna lie.

>I mean the Focus mechanic sounds great... until you realize you can't Dodge EVER and just are bleeding health at an absurd rate.
>Since taking damage % directly matching enemy accuracy is really really stupid
I'm not sure in which game it was introduced, but there IS a skill that you can buy that reduces graze damage up to a 75%, which is pretty useful if Graze damage really bothers you. (Not like you should be expecting Supers like Meiling or Keine to dodge, defending from attacks works out much better for them anyway.)
Also, as a small tip you might already know, you shouldn't be using focus too much. Outside of danmaku fields the only benefit you get from focusing is a 10% accuracy bonus and also a decrease in EXP obtained.

>Also do you eventually get a Capital Ship Analog for refill/rearm?
You’ll get both Koakuma and Minoriko in the second game who can restore you MP and Ammo. You also get Lily White, who heals less than Dai, but has a personal skill that passively restores 25%/35% of the max health of the units positions in the 8 squares around her. And in the third game you get Eirin can fully heal/refill all of the HP/MP and Ammo of a single unit at a time.

>as one of my biggest problems in FMW1 is that no items for resupply that can really show up
>and unless you give Daiyousei WP your healer can run out of healing.
That reminds me, some of the stuff that the 2nd game improved from the first one:
You don’t get penalized anymore if you a unit dies in the chapter
Consumable items restore themselves at the end of each chapter
And Personal Skills are no longer tied to WP, but you unlock skills for each character as they level up.

Instead, WP and their levels are used to give character small upgrades (as in 1 extra upgrade in HP, MP, Mobility, Armor and Weapon power). But if by the 4th and final game , if any unit reaches Wife level 10 which requires 1000 WP points (In a perfect run you can get a maximum of 1140 points), it gains all of the following bonuses immediately:
>Unit gets one extra action
>EXP, PP, Points obtained +50%
>Max SP +100
>Max Power +30
And you also get to choose 2 of these bonuses
>Item slot +1 (does not exceed 4)
>Final damage +10%
>Weapon range +2 (except MAPs), movement +2, focused movement +1
>Unit restores 50% MP and ammunition on every turn
>Unit restores 20% SP on every turn

And while you >>17920196 already invested some WP, luckily save transferring from the first to the second game gives you back the Max WP you could have gotten in a perfect run (175). Though this won’t happen again in the save transfer of later games.

3.- Even if you don't care about the story, you will need to know a little bit of japanese at least to navigate through the menus.
4.- You will miss out on some of the bonus items you get from save-transfering from the past games .
For example:
The bonus item for completing the 1st game gives you a 10% extra damage for 1 unit.
The bonus item for completing the 2nd game reduces the SP costs of a unit by 20%.
The bonus item for completing the 3rd game gives you a unit an extra turn after killing an enemy.

5.- If you plan on jumping straight to this one, you should at least have a little bit of experience with the Super Robot Wars series; as even the bosses from early game can be pretty fucking brutal; the game assumes you already have some experience with these types of games. And is also much harder than the actual SRW games.

I would tell you to begin these games in order, but the fact that the original game feels too archaic and unoptimized might turn you off like with that other anon.
The second game could be a decent starting point too, as it fixes a lot of the problems from the first game and is actually the easiest game on the series. You might be a little lost story-wise, but it won't be a really severe case like with the latter games.

Regardless of what game you choose to begin with, here are the translation patches for the games.
http://akurasu.net/wiki/Gensou_Shoujo_Wars/Translation
The games themselves shouldn't be too hard to find.

>and also a decrease in EXP obtained.
Who thought that was a good idea?

I was often versus bosses using Focus so I'd actually have units hit things as enemy evasion was so high. And Even then Reimu and Marisa were shit at dodging. And the tanky characters just don't have enough armor to provide halfway decent protection.

Still excellent post

The entire Wifepoint system in the first game just made me wonder why would they wall off basic skills behind SPECIAL CONDITIONS which often were all but impossible.

Final thoughts after beating the game:

Hard: Fairly decent power scaling up until Sakuya's Private Square bullshit and Remilia going full Ultra Instinct. I really wasn't feeling up for grinding points, so I save scummed her last spellcard. Sooo yea I guess I'll concede that to you Mr. >>17914658: there are portions of hard(and presumably lunatic) mode that I think are very much unbalanced.

Normal: No such trouble. Still had quite a few game overs to Remilia and Flandre. Nothing too crazy though.

Damn I forgot how imbalanced this game was with the character costs. Why does Remilia have 2.5 cost factor and no stats to make up for that

>> No.17935759

>>17935078
Character cost isn't that big of a deal since the dream stages don't have a cost limit. It's easy enough to use a bunch of high-cost characters for them if so desired.

Remilia is still pretty damn weak, though, even if you just look at her level and the XP it takes to get her there. It would be nice if she at least had high Talent or something.

It's more annyoing in general because you can pretty much never field them in the regular stage since they cost more than twice as much as other untis.

My strategy involved loading up Remi and Mokou with every single slot filled with defense/magic defense and sending them out alone. I used them to hold of the enemies for a few turn, then switched them out to bring in my low cost strike team to advance the map a few turns.

LoT 1's original music was all free stuff. I just checked the soundtrack and I'm not hearing that last track. However there's a ton of similar ones, so they probably both used music from the same guy. Just not the same exact tracks.

This BGM will never stop making me excited, and I'm still completely in love with how it doesn't get cut off when you get into a battle.

DoD's battle theme for the final part of the last dungeon also gets me pumped up, but in a different way.
Holy fuck I love these two games so much

Personally I'd rather play a game in an easily-accessible platform in a language I understand than wait forever until I can play it in Japanese on a weird portable gaming device.
GoS and DoD are perfectly amazing on PC so there's no need to hold out on them. In fact, you'll only enjoy them even more if your playthroughs of their Vita versions aren't your first runs.

PS vita's library, graphics, and usability are all SS tier. Definitely a sound investment as far as consoles go.

I agree on graphics and usability but the vita's library is far from even S tier.
