Why isn't denpa popular in the West? Is it too extreme or the song structure is too easy? Noise rock and shoegaze are more well known, and they don't have complex structure too. Extreme, aggressive music is way more popular too. Maybe, it's because there are no western artists? Have you ever heard English denpa, Russian denpa or in any other language?
And another question: can slow, calm songs with loli vocals be called "denpa"? Big collections, like RTL, and many albums have them. Is there a solid definition of a denpa song?

Yeah, the performance is really endearing, especially when she speaks in that fractured English, you can really see some parallels. Although I don't think the studio records really do them justice, since they're actually quite tame. Their live performances are much better. Mami Chan is the one on the right in the mushroom cap.

I've been crawling through all the Denpa threads from the start of 2016 till now, collecting all the albums that have been uploaded since the RTL archive went inactive. Currently I just finished grabbing the albums from the January 2017 thread. Once I catch up with this thread, I'll make a torrent of the entire collection.

I should ask before it's too late: Is anybody else doing the same thing? This is a lot of work and I hardly have the motivation to continue. But if I'm the only one doing this then I'll slog through it and make a torrent everyone.

Just counted the number of times 桃箱 actually says "tamako" in "100 Eggs" from Metal Passion.

To my surprise, it was actually 106 and not 100. Guess I can't complain as I got essentially 6 more eggs than expected.

Well, she says Egg 34 times in each chorus, of which there are three. Then there's a couple of eggs scattered throughout the rest of the song.

I used the lyric sheet to count, btw. So it should be pretty accurate, in so far as she follows the lyrics. I also only counted the occurrence of 卵. I think she also says たま~ご at some points.

It really is amazing, all of music theory is. I've only recently started reading up on it and it's interesting stuff. The way music affects the mind, the maths and the wavelengths of different pitches, why certain chords and chord progressions are so beautiful (like Pachelbel's) and others aren't.
What other denpa songs use the progression? I never notice it.

The chorus is a great place for it to hit. https://youtu.be/nwsbD3ZCn4s

I imagine composers are mindful that once they've used it, they probably shouldn't use it again. So, it seems to be getting saved for their strongest pieces.

Hi anons. I stepped away from denpa music for a few years (since 2013), but now really want to go back. Did I miss any major releases ? Also, any site to download denpa songs aside from those mediafire folders?

I think, more prevalent than Canon in D in Denpa is the progression you hear in nyanyanyanyanyanyanya (nyan cat), with the bassline iv v iii vi ii v i i. It's similar, but maybe more modern?

Since you're interested in music theory though, I have to ask: Don't you think these progressions that never leave the diatonic chord are boring? Maybe it's ok for a pop song chorus because it's inoffensive, but I'm glad people don't overuse them.

I have been too mesmerised by みりん's voice to notice the progression in はっぴーはーどらぶ until now.

>>17926561
Well unless the composers are being extremely creative with the execution of it, by using the same chord progression too frequently they risk their songs sounding the same. You notice this in all the pop songs over the years that use the progression, they all pretty much sound the same.

>>17928087
>more prevalent... iv v iii vi ii v i i
I don't know, I've never seen it before
>Don't you think these progressions that never leave the diatonic chord are boring
Yeah once you hear them enough times I suppose they would get boring or offensive even, since you're just hearing the same shit over and over again. But that only really happens once you become aware that all these songs are using the same range of progressions. Pachelbel's progression is nice but once you notice the progression first and music second it becomes kind of irritating. But I don't notice it half the time anyway, same for other conventional progressions so it doesn't get boring for me. I may be wrong about this but to my limited understanding, the conventional chord progression formula which stays in the diatonic chord is supposed to result in a progression that sounds "right" in the same way that a major chord does. So would leaving the diatonic chord make it sound "off" in the same way that an augmented triad does? It would definitely sound more interesting, and much more fitting for denpa.

From my own limited understanding, leaving the diatonic scale moves a piece forward, wheras staying in the same scale is like taking a break. In the (Western) classical theory, everything is technically either diatonic progression or modulation to a new scale, but these days we can do a lot more substitutions for fun, crazy sounds, and we don't have to stay in any particular scale, or use diatonic scales at all.

To me, tritones sound like questions, major/minor chords sound like answers, suspended chords sound hollow/noncomittal, and everything else sounds like different flavours of dissonance.

Keeping things thread related, I like the nanahira song NEKO*CHEF for its interesting harmonies.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImmztP1TKDM

As for examples of the nyan cat thing, I started noticing it everywhere in denpa song choruses, but some that jump to mind:
>the chorus of ブラックキャット
>pretty much all of 園児ぇりっくせんせーしょん although the key changes constantly

maybe I'll put together some sound clips or something.

Oh and since you mentioned augmented triads, the second chord in the chorus of NEKO*CHEF is an augmented triad (C aug) if you wanted to hear one in a piece to get a feel for it.

I guess if you want to quell your autism, I hear a meter with a lot of paeons (4-syllable foot, one stressed), which gives it a forward-moving rhythm. Chugs along kind of like a train.

etc. There's some relationship between "stressing" in poetry and the pitch of the voice that gets exaggerated here. I don't know if there's a name for it, but I doubt it.

I should stop being so lazy and continue learning. The thing about different intervals having different sorts of sounds is pretty amazing. It's like the mind's response to music has been figured out and it has this mathematical consistency with the wavelengths and whatnot. A root and a fifth together in any major scale will always sound pleasant. Why is this?
>maybe I'll put together some sound clips or something
Please do.

>>17931827
I had to listen to it a few times but I finally picked it up. It does have this sort of "off" sound but it fits nicely, very denpa-esque. What about 逃げて!レアリア? The entire track just sounds off and sort of creepy. What chords/ intervals are prevalent here?
