The latter one I'm trying, as it's a nice bad idea. (has two voice actors I quite liked in some roles)

The first one will depend on how good the presentation is. Gotta check some youtube some time.

While I'm at it, also trying:
-The imouto game by Alcot Honeycomb. I'm not into imoutos so this is a fucking bad idea, but some voice actors I quite like, the writer also having written Satsukoi and it having enforced routes making me believe it may go in a more plotge direction will make me probably go in.
-Noratoto 2, provided I don't hear too shitty things too fast.

This month only really has bad ideas. The chance of one of these random moe games being good is low and Noratoto 2 will probably make me angry. Baldr-wise I'm still at Dive, which will probably not change for years. And that one other plotge is also a heavy melonge which quite honestly looks a little disturbing. The writer had never the best art accompany his works, but this seems to be a new low.

Played through Chronobox. Holy shit, this game managed to push all the wrong buttons for me.

I should’ve dropped the game earlier, as it’s the exactly the type of (not really a big spoiler, it’s revealed just before OP movie) time loop game I personally hate; the one where it’s made purposefully obvious to the player but never to the protagonist. As a result the majority of the game ends up being random train wreck mini-plots that don’t really move the main story in any way forward, apart from some tidbits of info you get, leading to another thing I specifically dislike in VNs: cramming the main plot and all explanations towards the very end of the game with all the non-true “routes” acting as overly long foreshadowing. I liked the gradual piling up weirdness, but it alone doesn’t make the ride worthwhile if there’s no actually meaningful content to carry it through. The game already blew its "something is obviously wrong" load at the beginning, would've preferred if it started exploring that much earlier rather than focusing on girls' side plots that don't have such a direct relation to what's going on. I still fail see the point of the protagonist's deteriorating memory with each loop.

I even figured out the virtual reality twist very early on when things started getting really crass and weird, specifically when Kabane mind controlled and then fucking reality warped Otogi and the protagonist into raping Naonao, because it's the cheapest tried and true way of conveniently justifying all sorts of mysterious incoherent bullshit in one big swoop. Due to all those things combined I turned apathetic and had a hard time caring for any of the characters because you know it’s going to be tiny amount of SoL, instant random falling in love and sex that I knew was going to get explained somehow in the end but the justification itself was very cheap, shit hits the fan, trololol ending, nothing learned by any character then it’s recycled again and nothing actually matters until the plot says it does. The locked inside school part towards the end in particular was really silly.

Overall I’d rank the game about the same level as Clock Up’s Euphoria, actually there’s lots of similarities like general crassness, (spoilers for both games) plot crammed towards the end, virtual reality time loop, and main girl being a prick but as a twist actually good little angel. Both also got enough plot to not call them outright nukige and there are some decent twists, but I wouldn’t really recommend either for their story. One thing that Chronobox got right however was Hase, a notable case of idiot friend being actually funny and not just a retarded monkey. Also, while there was a load of flimsy excuse H-scenes there were also many that used character dialogue well and sometimes even talked about important shit (at least in regard to the current girl's side plot), or were tied to the general weird atmosphere so you aren't actually compelled to just hit skip since you might miss something actually semi-interesting.

Ouch.

I actually liked Euphoria's plot and resolution, but it obviously was rushed and lacking meat in some areas. If they had cut the other three worthless routes (the loli, the sensei, the deadpan girl), and just focused all their efforts into the Nemu and Kanae route, it might've been good. Good faps, though. Very good faps.

First impressions? Both gameplay and plot.

>> No.17821470

>>17821258
Nothing stands out so far for me. The gameplay is very simple. For each girl you get one weapon, and you can equip up to 3 of them. There's no heat gauge so you can spam them however you want. If you happen to run out of ammunition, you can recharge them by using melee attacks (which have cooldown however). If any of your weapon has a higher rarity, it will have an extra weapon (Unique rarity) or two (Unknown rarity). For example, my knife has Unique rarity and it gives an additional lance attack every time I use the knife.

In the beginning the game may seem difficult since you have only the submachine gun (which sucks), but once you get the shotgun, it becomes a lot easier since the thing is devastating: You can literally charge in a horde of 50 eye runners (which are very dangerous, unlike how weak they were in Sky and Heart) and wipe them out in a flash with the shotgun, while you cannot do that with the SMG. That said, weapons with AOE damage are much more useful in this game than those without it.

The plot is so forgettable that it feels almost non-existent. You basically go around invading territories managed by girls called Disposers. Every time you defeat one, they join you and give you a new weapon. To unlock their routes you will need to use their weapons in battle and level them up enough. In exchange, you are free to choose to play any route in no order at all, but honestly I haven't found anything memorable.

But I got bored and considered dropping it on few occasions. Like I mentioned there's some good parts as well that I enjoyed and would say the game is slightly above average, but I don't feel like the good points outweigh the bad ones.

I'm saying that once you figure out the general SoL > "romance" > extreme shit > open the box and someone loses a body part + someone relevant to them disappears story flow and time loop setting and virtual reality twist even before the latter's actual reveal, both of which have long since become overused and cliche plot elements in this medium due to how easily they are used to justify everything weird without having to bother to craft a proper mystery with cause and effect, a lot of the side heroine stories, which take the majority of the whole game start to lose their meaning and you only end up looking forward to the next fucked up part and for the game to finally start providing some sort of answers rather than faffing about in its general weirdness. Rather than invoking surprise it becomes predictable, and you don't really get time to get attached to any of the characters. Because you know nothing matters and all the weird stuff can be explained with lol virtual reality everything loses its shock value / impact and feels like filler.

What I personally would've preferred was some sort of gradual progression of the main plot and more interactions with Kabane in the middle parts (I genuinely enjoyed her sillier antics), rather than bringing up some obviously important keywords every now and then without actually elaborating further and then going back to pointing out that everything is quite surreal. Yes dear game, I noticed that in the beginning thank you very much, but I would like for you to now get on with the main plot. That, or the game in general would've benefited from being much shorter since the loop loses its appeal rather quickly. There may have been elements of a good plot and interesting characters there but I felt the general execution was sorely lacking.

I'll just say that Chronobox managed to really work for me personally because I loved every single thing about the game. I loved the characters, the production values, the SOL and even all of the h-scenes. There wasn't a moment I was bored or wanted the game to end. If you weren't invested in any of it, obviously the game will just seem like an h-scene spam and then an EPIC REVEAL at the end.

I wouldn't say so. If the initial setting doesn't draw you in there's a good chance it won't do so later. The side heroine chapters aren't that outstanding and the protagonist's 言霊 ability isn't really used in an interesting way like you said nor is he a good character. I feel like they really missed an interesting opportunity to create a more non-standard morally grey protagonist, since the game pretty much completely drops the more questionable things after Kokoro's chapter. While Hotaru is a neat heroine the real one to be exact, good Hotaru is just boring despite getting all the limelight, her route isn't that special either and she doesn't receive nearly enough screen time to make the entire game worth it.

If you want a very similar heroine who you can enjoy throughout the game try out Bansenjin instead, though you have to play the prequel without her first.

I agree with you with the virtual reality twist part, but not a lot of eroge or other works go with losing body parts and adjusting reality to make up a story to match up with that
As for the characters , I think the game wasn't made to make you get attached to individual characters, but more like a group. The game had a bit larger cast than usual and since all of them was kind of uniqe, they worked well together. The game shines where a bunch of friends on weird island school welcoming a new trasfer student to half of them disappearing and the remains are all handicapped people
That was pretty disturbing to me. And no one of the characters thought that was strange. Even if you knew that the world isn't real you can't help but ask why all these fucked up stuff are happening. Not to mention the cast changes personality when they lose a body part
The game was quite the ride to be honest. Sure, the game would have been much more better with more work on it, but since this is the brand first work, and it's the first time the writer writes a more plot based game after years of writing nukige, I am willing to forgive. >I hear it's incomplete (and also really long).
The game itself on average is really good. I personally liked it as one of the VNs that use choice systems relatively well, great mystery and tension throughout as you don't know if the choice you're taking is leading to a bad end or not without being too obtuse and requiring a walkthrough. My favorite of Nakazawa's games I've played up until the ending happens. To say the ending is really unsatisfying is already downplaying it. Like you said it makes the game feel like it's unfinished and it ends on a literal cliff hanger with an actual cliff. Some people however say it's "intended" and there are indeed some bad ends that do flesh out certain previously unexplained things or unlock further tips, however they don't make the real ending and lack of conclusion any less unsatisfying as plot wise there's nothing requiring putting an ending there (like in bad ends), it just kind of ends.

I mean there's other games that don't explain everything at the end that might also have "unfinished" bits and require the player themselves to think things through, yet manage to have somewhat satisfying endings so R11 doesn't really get an excuse. F.ex. Saihate no IMA comes to mind as a game that doesn't explain everything yet has the basic courtesy of having an actual ending.

It should be below 2mb.

That said, I tried it three times and always just left it hanging. Overly conveniently dragged out writing. Imagine letters in the style of "Hello, It's me. The weather is nice. My pets are well. My wife is sleeping. I'm going to go shopping soon. Also let me tell you about this news I just saw. Now then. There's something REALLY REALLY important I gotta tell youasdfnkyndfanfgyjknj" happening again and again. With the characters knowing that they have limited time and should write the important shit FIRST. But that's not possible. VN has to be long.

Some seem to still like it, but even though I had my fun with never7 and ever17, r11 wasn't supposed to be.

I went into it with so little knowledge of the game outside of a few pictures and the trailer. I thought it was going to be a psychological horror with a whodunnit dynamic where we try to find the killer amongst us in a isolated setting but that was way off.

Despite that I enjoyed it, I can understand not really getting into the characters since with each chronobox some characters never appearing again or some having their personality become something entirely new. So if there was a character you might have enjoyed and wanted to see more of and potentially get more fleshed out you couldnt. I still think the scenario writer did a great job at nailing that sort of surreal/creepy feeling throughout the game though. I love the isolated feeling the player themselves get as the world around them feels off but everyone treats it as commonplace.

Im not really a fan of the mystery just getting chalked up to it being a virtual world. It feels like the writer didnt spend enough time in trying to tie all this together and just went with whatever he thought of on the spot. I will say at least the MC has a motivation for wanting to get himself into that virtual world.

Yeah, if there's one thing that I wish Chronobox did, it would be to flesh out the ending more. I feel like the writer brought up a lot of interesting ideas at the end but really didn't do much with it as I would have liked.

I was never really bothered by the virtual reality twist because it was something I suspected at the beginning of the game and seemed fairly obvious, and I don't think this twist was the main focus at all. I was more impressed at how the explanation of Gifts and EdEn and the protagonists 'real' self ended up tying into the rest of the game. I thought it was damn brilliant. There were also the little things that really impressed me when I thought about it, like the fact that part of the screen is black whenever the game switches to the protags perspective in the last part since he can only see out of one eye or the fact that the scene at the beach pretty much foreshadows the ending of the game

I think the guy has potential to write something really great. I'm looking forward to his next game.

There were several things in last parts that really bothered me, like Gifts bullying and blackmailing Kabane into being raped and then into committing suicide through proxy with the other objective of releasing Nayuta from his Gift. The way it was handled was more silly than dramatic, and I think it would've been more interesting if the protagonist had had more direct intent in killing her rather than being a dindu who was unknowingly roped into it, especially how they foreshadowed the massive guilt and self-loathing he's shoveled with and his Gift being classified as the worst of them all, yet in-game it's much less worse than anything else we're shown. Even the desecration of the body ends up not being his doing. The revelation of his pussy magnet ability and his actual Gift level being faked for the sake of research also goes nowhere and only justifies the earlier load of H-scenes. Kabane suddenly falling in love with Nayuta was also very quick, even without the pussy magnet plot device used for other heroines. Her real personality as well was pretty bland compared to what we're initially introduced to.

In general I also really disliked how all the Gifts were revealed to be literally Hitler tier when in the virtual world they were actually nice fellows, and it was handwaved with really flimsy "they were massive pricks all along but we toned down their evil aspects in log world" excuse. Actually in-game the real human personalities were often as bad, if not worse than their Gift counterparts in some cases during their stay in the log world. It came off as a really bad instant degradation of existing characters, while I think without the "evil all along" revelation the game would've been more interesting and could have explored the whole Gift / human relationship and how they're actually not so different, what with the whole society for some reason giving human rights to Gifts when in-game they're ridiculously evil and can be removed without any negative side effects to the host. Pretty much all important ones we encounter are completely off the hook while the nicer ones (though who knows if they're all actually supposed to be outright mad in real world as well) get dropped altogether from the main plot as well.

>"girly and yasashii" protag incarnation #85123

You are acting as if this kind of protag would be normal. He sure isn't. He reminds me a bit of the protag of Supreme Candy for example. Being nice doesn't mean it's the same thing like with all those other "nice guys" in eroge. That may actually be what annoys you. He's definitely a protag that will turn some people away, while this kind of stuff is usually avoided. He's not as insane as the protag of Chaos;Head or anything, but he doesn't exactly have big confidence, had suicide thoughts and so on, setting the tone fairly quickly.

As for the angel thing, I'm actually surprised it makes sense. It's not exactly a 100% christian believes conform, but the general idea fits. It's just amped.
God is often considered "the father", with humans being the "children". And if you take this view, the angel situation actually fits. There's the whole "father = son, everyone is equal" thing existing, which would make such a setting even more plausible. The "nobody knows where god is, or can meet him" part also fits with how god is usually shown.
The only thing is that christian believe in "the one god", which clashes here I guess. This "god" in the story would not be someone you'd call "god" in Christianity. Then again I'm not that far in myself, so it could be that this part gets addressed at some point. But even if not, this isn't meant to be 100% aligned with religion anyway, proven by the Shinigami addition. So the whole thing being a plausible enough scenario based on what it's built up upon is enough for me. You know, what if god almighty left and entrusted humanity to take care of itself by appointing a substitute of sorts for himself, but without granting the unlimited power or life to actually remain human?

I'll definitely continue it for now. The idol thing made me sigh, but it could be that that's actually dealt with alright. I know that the author won't shy away from heavier themes, so this could be an interesting ride. I have some not so pretty ideas it could go towards.

I mostly agree, the gameplay seems pretty simple compared to previous games and pretty easy overall. Once you get to a sufficiently high enough level with weapons with the right bonuses, they all turn into wide AOE spam attacks (Even your knife).

I've unlocked all girls just got around to my first encounter with the "enemy," but I still don't feel like anything has really happened. Except fucking Carol, which apparently happens once you get max 高感度. You get character specific missions to progress through as you use your weapons, so leveling up a weapon is basically the same as progressing on a weapongirl route. The girls are ok, but their stories basically revolve around learning about their 元データ past and eventually absorbing them into yourself.

I'm hoping the weapongirl arcs are just so you can get attached to the girls, kinda like extra for muvluv. I'm going to be pretty disapointed if there's no unlimited/alterantive after this.

By the way, the game has crashed twice since I wrote this post. Anybody else have this issue?

I bought the game, but it happened with the physical disc. Then I tried using the .iso I downloaded from nyaa to see if that helped any, since my physical drive was a bit iffy. But nope, happened again.

The first time was during a heated battle with noticeable slowdown. (My specs are plenty, though. i5 2500k, 8GB RAM, rx 480) The second time was after a battle and I was deleting unnecessary weapons. I ended up losing my shit, but apparently it recognizes that I beat the level.

Finished 2 routes of Sayonara Wo Oshiete, Mutsuki and Mahiru. Not sure if I really feel like going through all the routes given how the game is set up, originally I was under the impression that it was going to be a game where you piece together the mystery from several routes but as it turns out, I guess they just sort of explain the entire thing to you no matter what route you choose so.

Is there any real life reasons why this game seems to be being a bit on the uprise including getting a new figurine?

I like that the length seems right, it doesn't feel like it wears out its welcome. The ending song has grown on me.

and now spoiler territory

There isn't any happy endings to the game, is there? Mutsuki is apparently the only "real" person out of the heroines and in that route the elder sister and psychiatrist (who by the way, I'm pretty sure would be fired for the shit she pulls) suggest that maybe they can use her as an anchoring point to bring him back to reality, but the generic spooky post-credits scene seem to imply he's kinda stuck in his teacher delusion

Though I notice the ending sequence actually has a bunch of variations to it. I guess it's the answers you give when interacting with the girls, but I wonder exactly how it works.

Don't know how I feel that the "answer" to the mystery is just "He's nuts." I mean, maybe it's just slight personal disappointment that I was hoping for some actual supernatural themes, I guess?

Given the theme word "Sayonara", I was expecting some kind of purgatory reveal but I guess that would be just be kinda cliche

There's apparently a bad ending on Youtube where the MC gets locked up for becoming an actual violent threat, I assume that's what happens when you choose a girl which you don't have enough points for?

Pretty much, even in Mutsuki's end he pretty much 'kills her' inside himself, and her being his angel pretty much means he's completely giving up.
At least his delusion is different because he submits to a 'strong woman' just to feel depressed and stressed, now he's Serina's assistant because her plan of fucking him failed as she didn't notice he wanted to fuck his sister. It's sad, but as the game says, he lost to both reality and his own delusions.

Done with the idolroute in imoten.

I was quite confused what the actual point was supposed to be from this route. The idol parts just feel weird/wrong given the whole scenario, while the god and life part is too "easy" and obvious. In the end, it makes sense, but I'm not so sure this works well. There's just too much shitty writing out there to expect that there has to be something more to it. And then there's the problem of the obvious mystery buildup.
In the end I do approve of this route, as it does give a nice view on how things are. Just getting there can be a little puzzling and not that enjoyable at times. Picture is related to where this route headed and is as such a spoiler. Although one can really at least kinda see this one coming, though unless one expects something by for example reading this post, it's likely you wouldn't recognize it. Why would an idol visit a dying girl she doesn't know in the hospital..?

On thing I really have to wonder by now though. Why imouto? Like seriously, the imouto gets literally switched in this route. Sure, there's a convenient plot excuse for that, but still... this seems to weird.

This isn't too unrealistic, although the moment Mitsuki appeared, the actual heroine was completely uninteresting. The route is a little awkward like that, as Mitsuki also drops a few bombs. She is the last mermaid. She apparently ate some really powerful mermaids and didn't have to eat humans for a while, but that's over.
Who the heck wouldn't want to see a bridge between these two games showing that part instead of whatever random dates you see with the heroine? The idol route was much more "story centric" then this route was as well... so it's awkward. Very awkward. Also kinda funny what this implies for Satsukoi.

Well, two routes left in Imouto;Gate. Best girls coming up.

Wait, so that means that nee-san and yuu are dead? That's weird if so since they both seemed to be doing just fine in Satsukoi aside from Ruri's route

I-It's not like I'm all that sad if so, but mostly just confused. Sorry to ask too many questions about the Satsukoi part, but it was one of the first untranslated VNs I read and I have nostalgic feelings for it. I guess I could just read imoten myself, but maybe I'll wait till you finish it and and then decide from what you say you thought about it (if you do). Well, read what I wrote one more time. And think of what that implies. That's all I can say. Who were the powerful mermaids she ate? If none are left, there's only really one conclusion what happened to Yuu, mom and so on.
It's not spelled out, but unless there's something else, this is the conclusion that I'd come to. Which is rather interesting, if you ask me. Too interesting to just randomly drop.

Aah aah, this moeblob's route is so boring compared to Ruri. This must be the sum of two beta dating, I end up skimming through it. I agree with the anon in the previous thread that Risa should've been the one with a standard route. Should do the H's then move over to Natsumi and Yuki. Marika isn't worth it, is she?

Anyway it's debatable how the way they handled the integration of the heroine routes in the common route, making the common route short. An advantage I could think of would be it encourages fucking all the girls in order in lesser amount of time, which I have trouble in the common way of long common routes. But man this feels more like a nukige than a nakige with all that proportionally correct, properly angled, sweet-colored multiple H scenes.

Yeah it was such a bore how they went with the 'safe' choice in regards to Suzu vs Risa - although I get it, they probably didn't want another headstrong heroine like Yuki.

Marika's route isn't bad like Suzu, but aside from the painting bits it is mostly ero. Natsumi route is only worth it for the plot and a couple of H scenes, she's basically Suzu 2.0 though so YMMV.

I thought it was ironic how the main heroine Yuki gets only 75% of the H the other heroines get (9 scenes vs 12). I still think the Ruri route was the best because they were both acting like stupid horny teens instead of asexual blobs yearning for each other.

17842869

Done with Imoten. Interesting story, but lackluster presentation. It's fairly enjoyable, but not without flaws and weird things.

I already wrote a few thing about it, so I can keep it relatively short. It's similar to Satsukoi in style, but there are a few differences. For example the atmosphere here is generally much lighter, which leads to drama feeling usually very sudden and failed to touch me emotionally for the most part. But the comedy style is fairly similar (and I mostly enjoyed it), the main heroines are as well (Touka is probably even slightly above Yuu) and certain story ideas and resolutions feel very familiar which I'd generally consider good in this case. So if you disagreed heavily with the solutions and messages of Satsukoi, you can just stay away from this game.

That said, I felt a lot of the presentation of the drama lacked. Let's just say it like that: If there are dumb story developments, saying so in the story doesn't make it less dumb. Same for deus ex machina. I feel just that there was a bit of a fundamental flaw in the idea of some sub stories. While the idea of such isn't bad, it should've looked at the whole thing a LOT less emotional than it did. Basically, when I though "well, this is some shitty move from god. Sucks for them", the protagonist was already running like a madman with some "epic" music playing. Has something to do with the suddenness of many events as well, but not only. Most of the "lessons" you ultimately got were so freakin' "well duh" as well, that it failed to have impact in that regard as well.
This is quite unfortunate, given that the main story and its idea was fairly well done.

Now, as interesting as the main story could be considered... it's a little messy.
For one thing, the first three routes have the very unfortunate case of "they don't matter". Or rather, they only matter in the very slightest way possible. There needed to be SOMETHING before. The three heroines there all do not matter for later developments. It's a little harsh, especially as there is a girl that could've gotten a route and who is important.
And then there's the ending. I fail to see how this is an ending. The main problem wasn't solved. Perhaps that's the point. But what was the point of this story then? Perhaps spending a little less time on the stuff that's not important at all, and dealing a little more with the actually important cast would've helped here. After what the game implied over Satsukoi, I can see this being a quite deliberate choice to do it like this, just unfortunately presented.

Finally, I ABSOLUTELY hated how this game ALWAYS flashbacked whole fucking scenes when it was referring to older scenes. You get a scene. Five minutes later this scene is referred to, so you get it again with a funny flashback filter. Five minutes later the referring scene is flashbacked to, including the flashback it contains. NICE. I also totally NEEDED to see the endings of the other 3 routes like 4 fucking times in the final route. It's probably not gonna happen, but... I hope they patch this shit out. I don't remember having such an issue in Satsukoi.
Oh also, why imouto? Like seriously, why imouto? It's just randomly there.

- values have to be moved between memory and registers to be used
- text is stored in memory but has to be spilled to registers at some point (either as individual characters, or as a pointer to the start of the string) to be used
- subroutine calls spill registers onto the stack, then remove them when they exit the function
- you want to find a point in execution that executes once per time the onscreen text changes, or once per character in each line of text, where a pointer to the string or a pointer to a character is stored in a register
- the hard part is writing the hook code. you're on your own here. hook codes are basically glorified breakpoints, so the only hard part is figuring out how to tell ITHVNR how to find the text when it's at that point in execution.

Are there any VNs with a 'Battle Royale' kind of plot where you're thrown into a (not necessarily pre-arranged/planned) life-or-death, every-man-for-himself scenario and have to try to survive?

This event doesn't have to take up the entire running time of the VN, but it should constitute a fairly significant part of the story at least.

It's annoying for me to miss stuff like this. While I don't want to use a guide for the whole game, since it's way less fun for me that way, I don't want to miss stuff either. Does anyone know how to get Kishin Hishou Demonbane (the second, untranslated one) running on Windows 10? I managed to install it from an ISO fine, but the launcher is the only thing that will open. Launching the game EXE, either from its folder or through the launcher, does nothing. I've already set the EXE to run in compatibility mode and installed all the DirectX packages I can think of (the one on the disc is 9.0c, which Windows 10 won't install on its own), but it makes no difference.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

How the fuck is that even possible. But it's not like there's a way to make me believe that anyway, given that all those polls can be easily easily rigged anyway.
Unlike almost all of the rest of the cast, Sachi is very one-dimensional with her character. Her voice acting as such is also just... there. All the heavy mood swings and crazy stuff that really help the other girls shine are missing. Lucia is the other one who suffers from this, being very one dimensional but she wasn't really a heroine and as such it's okay. Then again, maybe that's why? It's beyond my understanding, but I guess if you don't like the general style of the VN, you'd like Sachi? Maybe?
