From Yoshika's SoPM. I don't know man, the fact that she have memories of her past self means she still have a soul. I pity her honestly.

Oh yeah, I'm sure there's some scientific reason for this undead monster of legend to behave like she did when she was alive. Definitely.
Yoshika died, soul left. Seiga raised her, soul came back, partially or not. Denied reincarnation, denied peace, always barely conscious in the limbo between life and death. An abomination by all accounts.

>clearly still in her
Yeah, sure. I'm sure Yoshika stare at nothing and recite poetry during her spare times. If you do the same thing multiple times for a long period of time, your body will start to do it unconsciously. The actions are imbedded in your brain. So it's no wonder she shows that kind of actions when her neural system is revived.

>>17812650
What about you? Why is it taking back a soul all the way from the afterworld is more plausible than my explanation? Yoshika doesn't show an ounce of herself other than reciting some poetry, which can be argue as a leftover brain function. She's not capable of showing any kind of emotion nor engaging in normal human conversation without the paper, so why say she still have a soul?

>> No.17812870

>>17812812
Because a scientific explanation for a magical monster is fucking stupid, that's why.
Stop me if you've heard this one. Some magical fiction setting. A character's cornered by the zombified remains of their friend or lover or something like that. All seems lost as it closes in for the kill, but at the last second it stops and stares into their eyes. They hesitantly ask "...anon? Is that you?" or something like that, and the zombie's decayed expression takes on a sad quality or it moans mournfully. There's a sad, emotional moment.
NOW. Imagine that, but then some guy in a lab coat walks up and goes "Oh no, that's just leftover brain impulses. Still some stray sparks or whatever. Anon's dead as shit." Maybe even gets out a whiteboard for some visual aids. That's this.
Yes, it's plausible, but it's also really dumb. A necromancer doing necromancer things is both plausible AND isn't dumb, plus it actually fits the setting, so that's what I'll stick with.

Fine, do we have something better than Yoshika mindlessly reciting poetry while staring at nothing? Preferably any action that express some type of emotion? I know I'm stupid for giving scientific explanation for a fictional scenario, but that's only because "emotionlessly reciting poetry" doesn't mean she still have a soul, unless she recites it with tears in her eyes, then that would be something.

>> No.17812982

>>17812945
No, no, I'm not saying you're stupid, just that this idea is. Sorry.

No, nothing besides the poetry recital. The paragraph that mentions that action, quoted bellow, seems to imply it's not just her body glitching out, but nothing hard.
>But there are times that lead us to believe that she seems to have some memories from when she was still alive. When the charm is removed and she is freed from the wicked hermit's control, it seems that she will revert back to her old behaviors. One time, she was reciting poetry while staring at nothing with the whole cemetery covered in a carpet of fallen leaves. It was a little horrifying.

What IS pretty solid evidence against her brain still doing shit is that Yoshika's anti-decomposition spell doesn't work on her brain for some reason. Assuming Yoshika the jiang shi is the same as Yoshika the poet, then she's been dead and decaying since 880 AD. That brain's long gone.

Nah, the anti-decomposition spell, though not perfectly, still work on her brain, otherwise her brain would decompose long before the TD incident. Having a rotten brain is different from having no brain at all. Albeit it's rotten, there's still some functions it can perform(talking, moving, ect). Since Yoshika never did any emotional stuff, I still hold she have no soul.
