17788220 No.17788220 [Reply] [Original]

A friend of mine is an aspiring doujin artist and is about to release his first doujin this weekend.

He uploaded the first 18 pages of it on pixiv.
https://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=65520685

I'm very proud of him for pulling through all the hard work. He worked day and night on it to make it to the deadline.
Would /jp/ tell me what they think about it?

I can't even moon and I can tell the story is boring.
The art is pretty shit too.

But I guess being shit is the first step to not being shit, and at least your "friend" actually went and did it. Wish "him" good luck.

I like your work, OP. Don't let these mean spirited individuals keep you down from achieving your dreams.

It's not a particularly interesting story but it's cute enough and Flandre and the SA team always sell. As far as art goes people sell much worse at events.

I'm really not the artist.
Even if I would try really hard, I couldn't draw that well.
I just wanted to collect positive feedback but as well fair critique for him.
He worked really hard the last weeks and I think it's the least I can do to help him.

It looks cute but I'm just tired of seeing the SDM, anyway OP tell your friend he did a good job

Hello! I am an aspiring artist working on my first doujinshi! I'm debating what kind of doujinshi it should be at the moment. Should I explore the backstory of some hitherto unexplored character? Or perhaps I could come up with a hypothetical scenario following one of the games, but with a drastic, yet plausible, change in the plot? Or maybe, just maybe, I could depict the daily lives of some intriguing, but rarely seen characters, such as Yuuka, Sekibanki, the Tsukumo sisters or Nitori!

Wait! Scratch that! I'm just going to take the most popular characters and have some generic comedy shenanigans. Please buy my book!

That's very nice, though tell him to practice on the naked bodies, they look kinda stiff, I'm not sure why I get this impression though.

>> No.17788759

Seems pretty cute OP. Can't read it but I like the art. Perhaps a little over-reliance on the chibi bodies but that will improve with time.

You should be proud of your friend for working hard. It is a good start. Encourage him to keep improving! I will always support creative /jp/sies

Where is he releasing it? Remember you can't sell digital copies of doujins per ZUN's rules but physical is fine.

But that's a reasonable stance to take when publishing your first book. You can build an audience by doing something with mainstream appeal and then do the other more original ideas you mentioned when people have their eyes on you

>But that's a reasonable stance to take when publishing your first book.
It's not. There are dozens, hundreds of doujinshi just like this one. It isn't unique. It's not original. It won't sell but for those collectors who absolutely need everything incorporating the SDMs, or just everything Touhou, period. To stand out in the area of wacky Touhou comedy, you need either very good art, or a truly bizarre sense of humour like Bombergrape's.

This one is a drop in the sea of near-identical Touhou doujinshi. Is that the height of this artist's creativity? If so, I don't care, and neither will anyone who's been in the fandom for more than a year. Good job.

So? Why does it need to stand out? Like >>17789926 said just draw whatever the hell you feel like drawing.
It doesn't need to be special or stand out from all the others, if he wants to draw a SDM doujinshi, just let him.

All the information is at the bottom, last page.

>Remember you can't sell digital copies of doujins per ZUN's rules

Where did you even get this idea from?
I mean yeah, just look at all those digital Touhou doujins you're not allowed to sell, being sold.

>> No.17791412

>>17791209
He can speak a bit english, yes. But only single words or phrases.
I planned to either show him the thread later or just pick out some responses and show it to him and translated it for him.

From what he has told me, he plans to go sell the comic on the upcoming convention tomorrow, after that take a break for a few days. His original deadline was on the 11th but he didn't made it as his original plan of 30 pages got extended to 45.

I think I'll talk with him the next time on Monday.
