Almost all of the old-timey Japanese in Monobeno comes from the youkai charas, of which one is a heroine (Sumi). Coincidentally, most of the youkai scenes are only on Sumi's route, so if you skip Sumi and her route you will ignore the vast majority of the archaic speech in Monobeno.

It's no masterpiece, but compared to other recently released lolige (looking at you Oniichan, daisuki!) the plot is leagues better and there are actually several male friends for the MC to help balance the cast. I was completely surprised by Gusha no Kyouben as going in I didn't expect much and came away quite pleased, although one of the routes left a bad taste in my mouth (Sen).

It's always the case that the first couple of reviews/ratings are usually shills but even after a week the new releases are still very suspect in the distribution. I don't hear anything weird. Aside of the moaning maybe, but that's probably 90% of all actors. It's actually sad. There are quite a few voice actors who can sound pretty sexy... until sex starts.


But anyway. The protag doormat problem is just that he is literally that: He doesn't do anything by himself and only does what he is told. In a way that's needed so the scenario can play out how the writer wanted, but it's just silly. There are choices. There are routes. There's not even a harem ending. Why do you need to have the protag become a doormat and turn into a male slut? He is even engaged to his childhoodfriend. She ultimately allowing that is also just out of character. A route where they decided to go against it and just not do accept stupid things like that would be natural. But alas.
Nothing speaks against doormat routes, although a little more own will would be nice when he sleeps with the maids. You know, a little more than "well my father said so and my fiancee allowed it so...". Even a nukige needs to pay attention to its characters, or else everything can still get ruined to the point it would've been better to only look at the cg gallery. Not like this is going to be too different from some modern moege... just better spaced sex, so there's a little more to this as well.

Honestly, very often it's "you think, you lose" in these kinds of games. Danganronpa for example is best enjoyed with a walkthrough for the trial solutions and not thinking. The "mystery" the game makes you solve isn't really the plot mystery anyway, but rather what the hell the game wants from you right now and how.

I don't see the point. Personally I also absolutely detest the minigames, so these abominations drain any will from me to bother actually solving anything. What if I do a wrong guess? I have to redo the minigame? HOLY FUCKING SHIT PLEASE NO. Once is already too much. I answer any question you have, give any evidence you want, even if there's more than one that should be valid but isn't because "lul Danganronpa". But the minigames... just no.

I can't take it anymore. This has many aspects that I want from romance VN: The sole childhood friend heroine is also a MC along with the hero complete with her own perspective which leads to detailed characterization, slice of life with no KEY plot bullshit, tons of friends to interact for each of the MCs and how some even have their own love interests,but holy shit, the love triangle drama, amplified by how male MC and female MC being a fuckwad for each other in 80% of their interactions, and how both of their inferiority complex drags the drama makes me want to tear my hairs off and bang my head to the screen in rage.When both the MCs DO interact peacefully with each other, they're really cute, but it's barely worth the dragged out drama and the long ass talking about photography. Hell, they're not even romantically hooked up with each other even after the moments they spent time together because the love triangle is not resolved yet, which I suspect will only be resolved at the end of the route, and also they like each other more as rivals rather than as man and woman. I really want to choke whoever the fuck tagging this on VNDB as Pure Love Story.

I want to at least finish a route before giving my thoughts about it, but I can't take it anymore. I won't drop it right away though since there probably won't be another romance VN where the only romancable central heroine is also treated as MC, along with other stuff that I love that I've mentioned before, but I'll put this back to my backlog until I'm interested enough to read it again.

Its great because it completely focuses on the sole character(other heroines hardly ever show up in each route) that youve accumulated the most points in that short amount of time. The romance was done just right for me in terms of being more fluffy and cute rather than lewd, there weren't any more than like 2 H scenes on average per route, the multi-route mystery was nice to piece together even if it was pretty easy to figure out, the routes had stuff going on in them other than the romance, and the cast didn't completely disappear after routes started. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the common route being kinda boring sometimes, but that probably had something to do with my reading speed being atrocious at the time.

I was pretty much in your shoes about a year ago, and it was the best decision ever - to me it was similar to watching dubbed anime and then eventually moving onto subbed anime. It really opens up what is available to you, and being able to read new releases whenever is a great feeling compared to when you have to endlessly wait on SP's 40+ translation projects or JAST's glacial pace. Anyway, you choose first thing when you start. So no common route... or even more then one of the girls existing. Or maybe they are rivals. Who knows. You can turn off events as well, which is funny. Also easy mode exists. In case you are in for the story that probably doesn't even really exist.

It's actually for training weight. The harder the girl works out, the more it goes to the left, while the more she rests and doesn't work out, the more it goes to the right. Super training seems to fix everything including mood, which is otherwise... moody. Super training is once a chapter and probably best pre race, as the abilities are at max then.
When to go to a race and trying is something the game doesn't really hint at, so it's a bit hard to know what to work for.

Problem is more that it's a borefest. There's nothing that shows you how what you are doing has any influence. It feels random. How about at least some enemy stats?

Training gives randomly a skill to swap against yours, which is also an issue. How about a little more managing instead of RNG?

Why are races so long even if you have 0 influence about them, even with "skipping" them? Why do you actually have 0 influence? This would be immediately better with a little 2d racing game where your stats influence your character's speed and whatnot. Would also solve the other things to an extend, minus the skill RNG.


If you combine all that with the very VERY few events which also last for maybe a minute each, and you have yourself a guessing game and nothing else. It's just not fun on the long run. At least if you ask me. I'll most likely drop this.
As for brute force... nah. It's more about finding THE formula I guess. There's a certain way stuff behaves and if you figure out a good way that works once, it should work all the time. So provided your skill rng and settings are fine.. you should be good then. Basically the girl gets tired every now and then, which means you need to rest which resets her mood to worst. It rises with time (not spent resting) and training of at least medium. Super training maxes it out, once per chapter. So if you find a good combination of training, fan raising/money and a race to finish of the mood (and your exhaustion), the you can rest and do the exact same thing again. Probably. Wouldn't be surprised if exhaustion is also RNG based, at least to an extend. Because why not? Why would anything need to be not RNG in a raising simulation of sorts...

So, tried this for 2 hours now. The first scene I immediately skipped. Not sure if they wanted to leave an as bad as possible first impression or what was going on there, but the first thing you hear sounds so awful it's not even funny.

Anyway, past that the whole thing is just weird. It's an eroge. Why are the "we can't have ero, so we think of something else that's fanservicy" scenes even there? The "massages" are mostly just pure boredom, as they are often empty with just some random description and "moaning" equivalent. Looking past them it's not even too bad. Although I personally really dislike the main girl. No wonder, given who she is voiced by and how I usually quite dislike that voice actress as well.

But it's not like that matters much. This is all about the sound production right? Well, with the beginning being as it is, expectations are quickly lowered, but even so.. it's disappointing. Most of the time it just doesn't sound good.
The volume differences are WAY too big. The voices from the side are way to "side"-ish. It sounds like the cheap "hey, the character is to the right, so we only use the right channel" effect that binaural should actually be able to avoid (?). Sounds especially bad with headphones, for obvious reasons.
Then there are effects and whatnot. For example the "blowing into the ear" sounds like blowing into a mike. Yeah, well, yeah. Duh? But please. That's not the idea here. Quite a few of the sound effects also sound weird, just like the whispering. Which of course also has to do with it not really sounding normal but rather artificially centered. It's a bit hard to describe.


I'd actually go so far and say that this'd be a fine moege if they had just left out all of the fancy stuff. The art is fine, the sprite work is pretty good with a good amount of changes per line. If it zooms in, it's not blurry because they actually cared about the art resolution. The music is actually pretty good for a moege. I at least quite like half of the main cast. But the binaural voice recording has more issues than positives I feel. I quite liked what I heard back in Corpse Party. But I feel this kind of stuff has to be some weird acquired taste. Or perhaps in-ear headphones are better. Or something. Well, at least the "main voice actress" behind the game has some fun with her character. I approve of that. The others should've been like that as well.

Just started the game up and took a listen. As someone who occasionally listens to 耳かきボイス/耳舐め/general h-audio this is exactly what I expected it to be. ASMR isn't your thing I suppose. Now you know.

I'm only a minute in but I think I'll have a good time with this one, though there really should have been a "bgm when ear licking background voices are playing" slider in addition to the bgm during voices slider since it can kind of obfuscate it.

I just finished Yayamo's end in Chronobox and damn this game is good. It really gives off this feeling you get when you read kamige where you can't get it out of your head even when you're not playing it. I also like how the games tone can change within a matter of minutes. One second you are sitting through some comfy SOL with characters acting MOE and then the next second you're like "holy shit what the fuck is going on". Even though I think Yayamo's route took this to the extreme I've felt that most of the routes so far have had an extremely 'off-kilter' vibe to them. The game makes you feel that there's a dark side the characters aren't showing you, and it really manages to creep me out.

Game also has some pretty entertaining h scenes, never really felt like skipping any of them. My favorites so far have had to be the ones involving the twins. (Number one would be the church h-scene and number two would be the first h-scene with the twins together).

The beginning has nothing to do with the binaural part. It's just cliché overacted eroge "slurping", that sounds shitty in 98% of eroge. (i.e. blowjobs and whatever) I personally don't know how people can even like that stuff, but whatsoever. Overlapping that sound 10 times and blasting it into the ear doesn't help it, but isn't why it sounds terrible to me. It only amplifies.

On the technical side, I'm not sure what you think getting air blown into your ear sounds like, but "blowing air into a microphone" isn't a terrible approximation of the effect. The left/right problem happens in all cases. Not just whispering. That's what makes it so grating, as the "normal" version sounds just off. The whispering may be somewhat close, but I still can't help but feel that there are recording issues with a good amount of lines where you clearly hear the "microphone effect".

That said, the question is still if this is at my end or if there's a general issue with way too different volume and side problems. I remember someone who played this here before me mentioning that the recording isn't so good in "normal" scenes but it's luckily good in ero scenes... or something. Yeah, Nono definitely reminds me of Hime from LxC2, only slightly older. So, I'm done with this. Short version: If you don't care about (or like) the binaural voices, it's not worth it. I personally had some hope in it because one of its voice actresses wrote part of the scenario, but that didn't end up doing anything.


The scenario is disappointing. There is no pov changes, which is pretty bad in itself. Essentially all the good VNs do that to an extend, and for good reason: It brings characters A LOT closer and gives depth. So with actual women writing the scenario (at least the other names also sound female), I hoped that this would be used to create some characters that manage to have a bit more to them than just what you see after 20 minutes. Well, doesn't happen.
The game is really just about random scenes. Those can be fun to an extend, but once you hit the character route and that still continues it gets awkward. As much as I do like the rest of the cast not vanishing, this felt like it still had common route events later on. I'm not checking a second route to confirm that though. With me also disliking half of the main heroines, I didn't exactly like these common route typical group events. (that funny enough barely happen during the common route)

So, what about the romance? Doesn't really exist. The game does probably pretty consciously avoid actual romance. So the confession is just there to lead to sex. There's no real buildup or anything there. So, why wait so many hours then? Once sex starts, you get it pretty frequently. Could've probably been done earlier and spaced better.
Speaking of sex. Disappointing, at least for the girl I played the route of. Please eroge. If you have such a nice looking succubus costume for a heroine for which you even do a CG and sprites... how about you actually have an ero scene with that? That should be normal. I'm actually surprised that that didn't happen.


So yeah, it's fine if you like your binaural stuff, as there's no real other eroge around with that anyway. To make it better: This isn't even too bad comparing it to other moege. Not too bad music, enough care given to the art so zooms aren't blurry messes and whatnot, plenty of sprite changes each line to make things more lively. It's all there. But if you aren't heavily there for the binaural audio, that's it.
Oh yeah, I tried some other headphones that were worse and it sounded a little better. So changes can be achieved. My biggest problem however remained with the binaural stuff: There is never a "front" feeling for me. The supposed "front right" for example sounds like "right" to me. Back works. In fact, sometimes it sounds like back even though it shouldn't. Perhaps normal, I don't know.

Each character gives you just one weapon, and you can only equip up to 3 weapons in battle, so you'll end up spamming the same things again and again. The game is already more spammy than Force and Bullet, and having unlimited enemy spawning (and ambushes too) as the norm makes the spamming even worse. It's very often that you'll get surrounded by nearly a hundred of viruses at the same time, so be prepared to die a lot. This game is a bastard child of Dark Souls and Touhou in disguise.

Also, you can run out of ammunition, and melee weapons have cool down, so early game is mostly about resource managing. Still, this seems to stop once you get the shot gun, as you can switch between it and a knife to slice through dozens of enemies and still have plenty of bullets left.

As for grinding, you don't grind to level up weapon anymore. Instead, you'll rely on RNG and expect to find something good after each battle while throwing away a bunch of trash. Some battles are just impossible if you don't have enough firepower, so it's back to grinding again, just in a different form.

While this game is amazing and really impressively done, one small complaint I have is that your two guy friends don't have sprites. They're great characters that perfectly balance out the school life setting and it'd be really nice if we could actually see them.

This problem is all too common. I'm playing Niizuma Cation and nobody except the heroines have sprites, although since they are running e-mote I can't really fault them - multiple characters on screen with e-mote on looks weird, and puts too much strain on the e-mote engine (e.g., onii-chan daisuki has up to 3 e-mote charas on screen at once and it causes more heat in my system than witcher 3).

For games that use normal sprites though I really do appreciate having fleshed out side characters. That's one thing Mashimaro did well, every side character had a ton of sprites and facial expressions, although when it came to clothing they fell short. Especially compared to, say, Golden Hour and the multiple casual outfits they gave each heroine. It really annoys me nowadays when I see other studios do the bare minimum of effort - sprites, faces, clothes, etc. I suppose cutting corners is a must in the eroge industry considering the budgets they must have.

It's interesting that in older games I've played side characters will have sprites but not voices, only the main heroines are voiced, whereas in modern games like this one everyone is voiced (except the MC) but side characters don't get sprites. I guess it's because as resolution and detail of art increases each sprite becomes more expensive, so companies don't bother with side characters who don't appear too much anyway.

This includes sprites as well, as far as I remember. These high res resources were available uncompressed as some pre-order bonus, and I THINK some sprites were there as well, but it's been some time.

When will the majority of companies break out of 720p? Recent releases like Golden Hour and 鬼がくる are in 1600x900 which is a start but I'd like to see 1080p. Are the average consumer's PC specs holding them back?

I'm really disappointed that Nono's 'anata' sounds completely different compared to how she initially says it when you open the Lovely Call menu. Because of that I am a little partial to danna-sama, just because.

Also I believe hibiki works changed how the Lovely Call system works, instead of sounding the same every time like it used to, they seem to speed it up/down slightly in order to make it sound different. It's especially noticeable with the short options like papa.
