Yeah, the idea is that this was too low. Not sure if you know this, but AFiEU was scrapped and unreleased in-universe. And considering the kind of shit the tengu are known for publishing, that's saying something of what they (and ZUN) think of this sort of thing.

So, is the lore behind AFiEU (not the articles) actually canon? does all the memes like Trump and Koi Dance canonically written by Aya?

I always thought it's just compilation from guests artists that happened to be started by ZUN himself and included in Touhou official magazine but isn't part of canon, kinda like Inaba comic.

AFiEU is a fake publication made by Aya that is far more exaggerated than even her usual fare. Eventually Hecatia tells her she's been used by the Lunarians (implied to be influenced by Sagume's power) to produce shit like this and Aya scraps it.

Inaba is more "canon" because it's part of the Bougetsushou series. It's not an unrelated doujin. The events and relationships in Inaba actually happened, they were just exaggerated because it was a gag manga. So the Watatsukis and Reisen II came to visit, we know this is true, but Eirin doesn't get sick and Kaguya probably doesn't drive a cart through Rinnosuke's wall.

It all came about because she was afraid Hatate's Kakashi Spirit News was becoming more popular than Bunbunmaru so she wanted to try something new.

Aya's route in HSiFS took a weird tone shift in the EX-stage with Aya serious'ing up for once and Okina did announce she'd be visiting the Youkai mountain later.

Have you just been completely ignoring the stance and approach Kanako and the Kappa are taking? They are attempting to innovate and modernize Gensokyo and are pushing technological advancements. As >>17731507 said technology doesn't kill youkai on it's own, it's knowing how it works that leads to disbelief in magic and youkai.

Kanako is pushing tech as a divine blessing from the Moriya Shrine, and the Kappa are pushing what they produce as their own engineering and ingenuity, their products being intrinsic to "Kappa". To the humans who don't know how this shit works, tech seems like a miracle, which bolsters their faith in the gods and youkai.

Hatate saying this isn't counter to the tengu's agenda. She wants to research Sumireko's technology and see if it is beneficial for them (this is what Aya obscures, she implies Hatate thinks Sumireko is beautiful and will lead Gensokyo to prosperity herself). Nothing Hatate says runs counter to the tengu's agenda; they are allied with the Kappa and the Moriya Shrine. Hatate is saying that they should also stay on the cutting edge of modernization and technology with their allies. Both the kappa and tengu think Sumireko's phone technology
