She had some problems with her agency and as a result she hasn't really acted in anything.
There were some voice acting roles, though. The most important was probably: the main role in anime movie: "In This Corner of the World" (この世界の片隅に) .
If you want to know more search her by her name Rena Nōnen (能年 玲奈 ), or by nickname she goes by now: のん.

Can't you just get genre tags/info with a quick Google search? I guess I can try though.

KazoGame: This is a very bizarre domestic drama with underlying commentary on Japanese society. I would even call it "hard to watch" - you definitely need to get used to what it's doing but once you do it's something very special. As tags maybe "Bizarre" or "Unorthodox" + "Social Commentary"

Mother: An extremely emotionally charged drama with good writing and surprisingly high production values. The level of cinematography and direction is definitely much higher than most other dramas. It is a truly heartfelt story that will get you very attached to the characters. This drama fucked me up really bad and despite how much I love it overall I still can't get over some of the developments towards the ending, so perhaps a "Depressing" tag.

Do you guys know any other dramas like Kekkon Dekinai Otoko or Family's Form about a single man who is living a comfortable single life balancing work and his interests, with the possible love interest in there?

I feel like every "life" genre drama is targeted at women. I want to see a man in his 20s/30s dealing with daily tasks, work, and possibly some love without making it a romance show.

And is that one guy here from a year or two ago who used to share "fatherly feels" dramas with me (especially Mana-chan)? Those were some good times.

Great!

In The 100th Love With You, I just want to know how Aoi's death became a fixed point in time.

I think they tried to explain it on one part of the movie where Kentaro and his uncle had a talk and Aoi was eavesdropping. They said something about Kentaro's fate being unchangeable.

I know you have to suspend disbelief to enjoy these kinds of movies, but I've seen a couple of them and I can't let it pass without getting a good explanation.

This is a scummy move. The network is already undersaturated because of their ridiculous 1.0 ratio demand, and the donations should be easily covering any server costs they have.

I finally got around to finishing the first episode. It took me three sit-downs over three days to finish it.

Even though this has some of the themes I'm looking for I just can't do it because of the protagonist being female (which I can't relate to), and her so easily asking this one dummy she had just met who acts autistic to marry her so that she can work as his housewife.

I don't know why it's just so bizarre and I feel like I'm getting cucked even though I'm actually not.

I think I prefer to relate to a male protagonist, and then have him meet a female throughout the story rather than the reverse situation where a random stranger "wifes" this sweet, pretty lady with zero effort other than having a stable job.

It's a shame because the show seems really comfy for those that aren't bothered by it like me.

Also been looking for something similar since without much success. The fatherly ones don't really appeal that much to me either, watching one or two of them was enough after that they all feel similar.

Juhan shuttai also couldn't keep my interest, never finished the first episode I think.

Recently watched Sion Sono's (Love Exposure, Suicide Club) "The Whispering Star". Very minimalist film that also manages to be fun and emotionally compelling, especially towards the end.

Also I want to hold-hands with Yoko!

I pretty much feel the same way about most jdramas. They are written for women even if not by women, and my emotional response is probably totally different from what was intended.

This is one reason I mostly avoid romance jdramas. It's kind of hard to relate when it focuses too much on the female perspective. I prefer the youth/friendship ones. For me, the japs make good shows about that compared to the kdramas I watched.

I liked the first border. It was a nice balance of murder of the week and the season arc of him solving his own shooting. Nothing really original but not bad either. Oguri isn't exactly the greatest actor so a mostly expressionless character really suits him.

I saw a Webm a couple of days that I can't find source for and I can't find the Webm either so I thought that this thread might help me since I think it's from a japanese horror movie. It's definitely asian.

The webm starts with a girl waking up in the middle of the night and goes to the kitchen, while she's there she sees a figure standing over her futon in the bedroom. The figure is dressed in a red robe or something similar and the figure begins to move weirdly (almost skips or dancing forward) towards the girl in the kitchen. The girl wakes up at the last minute when the figure in red reaches her. The girl had apparently dozed of during a late study session. She puts her head in her hands and then removes them only to reveal that something else is holding up her head.

I might not remember the scene correctly from the last sentence I wrote but someone will probably recognize the movie from this.
Thanks.

Pardon the crossboarder:

There was a 1980s american television show called "The Wonder Years, a 7-season period drama following a boy growing up 2 decades earlier in the late 1960s. If you watch it, you get a good feeling for what it was like to go through the adolescent grades at that age.

So I watched Nobuta wo Produce based on rec's from this thread, and I liked it especially because, though dramatic, a lot of the dialogue felt real, almost improvised (especially Shuji). They often sound like real japanese highschoolers. This is what made me love Linda Linda Linda so much too. Can anyone recommend any other shows or movies with a similar feel to it? Kon.

NwP is already probably the best in slice of life set in highschool. The show was great except it had a very weak first episode. GTO 1998 is good too but is slightly more over the top. You can also try Stand Up!!. It's also SoL but more on the comedic side with some dramatic scenes. It has creative shots and scenes unlike most dramas.

Anyone got some recommendations for fun weekly(ish) variety shows? Here's what I watch right now:
月曜から夜ふかし - Humorous look at what's going on with random people on the street and other assorted bits
水曜日のダウンタウン - Staff comes up with fun theories and puts them to the test
ニンゲン観察バラエティ『モニタリング』 - Hidden camera prank show that's fairly entertaining (despite being fake as shit)
探偵!ナイトスクープ - Members of the public get helped out with requests
ザ!鉄腕!DASH!! - Comfy wildlife shit with a focus on building projects and conservation

I imagine there's a bunch of other shows I'm missing out on, but going through the TV guide is a hassle when you don't want to watch talk shows.

>> No.17848120

>despite being fake as shit
It wasn't always that way. Back when they were just a small show with little to no budget, they actually put effort into capturing authentic reactions. There was even a segment that almost failed because they couldn't get actual pedestrians to walk by their experiment and even filmed the crew standing around hoping someone would pass by. Becky leaving definitely killed the show, though.

>> No.17848468

>>17848120
Becky had some great segments, it's a fucking shame that the celebrity promo stuff is so stale now she's gone. I really hate the newish "watch this potential olympian destroy some kids while dressed up as an old person!" segment they're doing now in the run up to the olympics, the show has gone from 50% to 75% watchable to 25% at best. There's no way I could watch it live, there's just too much that's unbearable like "watch these popular 20 something drama stars walk around Tokyo while disguised!".

I don't think there are enough cute actresses to keep me invested in it if most of the story will be repeated. Also considering the pacing of typical anime, 13 hours into 4 hours seems highly plausible.

I don't have the time to watch all this again if I know that I won't really enjoy it.
So I checked:
anime:The latest episode is on the part where Hinata is getting bullied.
manga:Not sure where exactly, but Gotou's wife is still alive, so movie went further.

I don't really get why people get butthurt over someone not wanting to watch/read all source material. I don't have infinite time. I know what I dislike and what I do like. I don't like repeating the stuff I have already seen. I don't like the art style of this anime. I like cute actresses. I like knowing if the ending I have seen is definite or will there be something more. So why would I spend more of my time for this?

>I don't like the art style of this anime. I like cute actresses.
Then stick to the movies.

> So why would I spend more of my time for this?
Because the movies aren't exact adaptations. You don't have to check out the source material if you don't want to. No one's telling you to do so. Just stick to the movies if that's what you like. Nothing wrong with that.
